hot glue hack: When you run low on glue, and the end is no longer sticking out of the glue gun holder end... Press a new stick on the hot tip to melt it, and then press in against the one about to run out. This will glue it to the old stick and pull it in without having to keep pushing it down, or it falling out. I got this tip from a foam R/C plane building channel, and it is super helpful.
A for effort! That thing, like many of the things BuzzFeed "makes", was way more work than the payoff is worth and more about looks than functionality, lol. Just get (or even make) a pen pouch - no one is carrying that monster case around for 12 pens, lol. Although, it would look cool just sitting open on the desk the way you made it. Tyfs! Hope you have a great week. Best of wishes to you and yours. ♥
If you don't need it to open you could just make the paper accordion and attach it to a single flat piece. Or you could attach it to a soft side binder. Either way you would save money since you wouldn't need the canvases or tape.
Yes! I was thinking some sort of built in weighted chipboard exterior, wrapped in decorative duct tap, but the soft binder is much more practical, & of course durable 👍🏼
@Peggy Brittain Oh, I simply meant that it's not entirely practical at all for regular use, and she did a great job of showcasing that. Sorry for any confusion😊
Close the bottom of the pockets so the pens, pencils don't slide out the bottom in gay caught in the hinge when you're trying to close the Box. Love this idea thank you
It wouldn't fold up and is probably more difficult, but just as a cool looking pen organizer, you could make a bunch of paper cones and like arrange them to make a hemisphere that you could set on your desk/shelf. Put it on a lazy Susan and spin it around. I hope that makes sense.
How about mounting it directly onto the wall above your desk (without the wooden frame)? Or even easier onto a peg board (with zipties)! That way you could store your pens horizontally and wouldn‘t have to buy the expensive parts. You can also vary the size and number of the pockets to fit your needs. I really see kids loving this. The colorful theme can work great as a motivation to do homework or organize!
It's super cute. It's a shame it's not all that practical. I'm kind of tempted to make this using a binder instead of the boxes, and to maybe sew a cover for it with handles and a zipper. I really like the idea, though.
I think I'd just miss the bulky wooden bits and glue the fan bit onto a piece of cardboard or something that way you could just have it open on your desk.
Im really glad you showed this diy bc in theory it is such a cool concept yet in practice it doesnt seem practical. Lolol watching you try to close the case was so funny- also kona is pure love, what a sweet faced pupper.
It was fun to watch you put it together! I haven't thought about testing out other folks' projects - I like it a lot. Thank you for taking the time to see if it works!
I LOve this old Boxes i have a old Cohiba Cigar box with lid for Ink Bottles ,very high qualilty and i use old Tin Boxes. You get them cheap on flea markets
I think you will be able to close it even with more pencils if you don't put them in the middle two pocets where the two canvases meet. Beside that it works great!
Thanks for trying it. I think I would try it using an up cycled old book cover instead of the wooden box. I like the open effect and it is a cool desktop display. Would take up a lot of space though.
A shower caddy from the dollar store keeps my pen organized and I can carry it around the house. You’re so adorable that’s why I clicked like & subscribed. 😘
Kona's such a sweety! Thank you for sticking through this for us! I wonder if it would work with a fabric outside somehow...less restricting like the wooden canvas
I wonder if the pens slip thru the bottom. I would try to glue across the bottom when assembling or perhaps bind it somehow across there and see it that changes what you can hold in there when you close. I would also try a hook closure on the side, similar to on a jewelry box to keep it shut instead of Velcro.
$25 for a bulky box that holds not many pens. Hmm, not so great. I like the accordion thing, though, that's pretty cool. But the box part leaves something to be desired.
It's early morning and it's raining like crazy and I will be getting ready to go out to church ☔🌧️ I just watched this video as a random choice and you gave me such a great laugh! The NBC part was a LOL moment for sure! Thanks for the lift on such a glorious rainy Sunday! Hope I get to see a rainbow to match your pen holder! 🌈❤️🎶😊☝️
I am so glad you posted this! I also watched the Buzzfeed video about the pop-up organizer and it left me with a bunch of questions but your tutorial was so easy to follow! I agree that it does seem a bit pricey to make in comparison to buying one outright from a store, but yours is so cute!
It might work better to connect the two "boxes" at the short end, that would make it better for different length pens! Also, why not use a simple hinge? That would be better than just strong tape. Another idea if it's being used as a case or something would be to paint them! AND ANOTHER IDEA!!! A simple latch on the end instead of velcro! :) (I feel like I just super hacked this lol)
That looks so awesome! It's beautiful when it's open, I love the color gradient! I love the way the paper looks when you opened it up after the glue dried. It inspired me for some other craft projects. I'd be great to have in my crafting area for more inspiration. Also love how you can, not only, separate pens, pencils by basic colors but by shades of those colors. Great job on it!
This really is very cool. I’m thinking that if your canvas frames were deeper then all your pens would fit and it would close. I really like the idea of this. Also you could put a little hook latch on the outside to close it and a small handle or drawer pull. I now have lots of ideas for this. Very fun project. Oh and I love the rainbow colors. If you were to do it again you might do multiple sheets in the most popular colors. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe not doing it with a canvas, but with a flat board on the sides just to give support for it to function as a displayer, it could work... and even the pockets that are closer to the end could be used as well. I loved your idea of doing it in colors to separate the pens by the way! Maybe one day I can do one like this for my color pencils.
Kona loves his mommy! :-) The reason why it wasn't closing is that the pens kept slipping down in the middle where they would fall down into the wood keeping it from closing. If you could close the bottom of pockets that would take care of the problem, or don't put pens in the two middle pockets. You could use some decorative scrapbook paper there as well. as on the ends since you can't use those pockets anyway.
This was an interesting experiment! I really like your idea of colour-coding the pockets; it's very aesthetically pleasing! I was planning on making a cloth one of these to sort out my alcohol markers; but not being able to close it seems like a problem 😬 Only think might resolve that is make it such that the cloth has some give at the hinge area (Something that can spring into the arch shape and fall flat when closed if the case is at full capacity!...or individually blanket stitching the floor of each of these) and uh... have excess cloth outside the 2 structured boards to tie it closed /work as a handle like one of those Japanese lunch bags. But that might be too elaborate for this purpose haHA.
First time I've ever watched a video from you, not sure what made me want to click this but I'm glad I did! I've subbed and look forward to seeing more of your videos :D Also an idea for that type of organizer but may work better would be to make the accordion double the size, fold it so it forms a circle instead of a semicircle and attach it to a spinning wheel (possible one that curves inward so the pockets are at a slight angle so the pens don't fall out.) Then you can spin it around and have the pens sticking out kind of like they do in the little cylinder holders you showed. I wish I could show what I mean, cause I think that would be a cute idea.
You can probably do that in a wooden box, the kind used for decoupage. They should be cheaper and have more room inside. Also, you could take the pieces apart, so you wouldn't need to arch the paper while gluing it to the two sides of the box, and then put the hinges back (as you do that from the outside anyway). It's not hard at all, I used a screwdriver from a little swiss knife for it!
Personally, for this to function in my studio workshop I think I would lose the hinge/folding book format and make it into some sort of accordion hanging storage. Your idea to make it colorful was the bomb. Ideas are endless!
I loved this video!! I would totally try and make something similar, using your tips! I'm about to remake office areas at both my parents houses, so I want cute storage solutions for both. Thanks!!
this looks like a fun way to store paint brushes, or makeup brushes. i wonder how well the cardstock will hold up? could also be made with acrylic felt instead of cardstock ?
Oh I have SO MUCH to say about this one! #1 This could be done as a full circle and then hung as an ornamental wreath, or perhaps even used as a storage wreath! #2 I was going to suggest using a deeper, already-hinged box, but, as we can see, that would put the rainbow compartments further inside, limiting their use unless the box is also wider and--At that point the handy storage option that the box is supposed to be may become too big and awkward. What's better and a fair bit cheaper, If you don't want this to be an always open thing is making it a temporary organiser to keep colours handy and neat while making specific drawings, to organize just necessary colour at hand. This could be shrunk without sacrificing depth to increase the portabile and easy use aspect. it would be best out of felt and sew rather than glue (Which will make the whole thing stronger for more constant use). Hey, if you make it with fabric why not add ribbon to both ends to tie it up neatly when closed?
It's interesting...I like the gradient accordion pockets. It's very pretty. But the boxes and tape and all that doesn't seem quite right. I love though that you took a DIY and did it here for us.
It looks like if you had glued the bottom sides of the rainbow part, it would keep the pens from falling down between the sides of the wooden parts. The pens are falling down in between the wooden parts where the tape hinge is and that is keeping it from closing. So, some way to close the bottom edges of the fan part might help. It looks great though. I like the Lazy Susan idea too.
Maybe if it was completely in fabric and made the "woodcanvas peaces" (also in fabric) sturdier with some filling? I've been looking for a good organizer thx for the demo ^_^ you always seem to inspire me!
Very nice little pen display. Personally, I'd seal the bottoms of each strip before putting it in since it looks like the middle pens are dropping down far enough to prevent it from closing.
Hmmmm what about doing this on the top of a mirror? O guess the colors reflected would create a beautiful reflexion. Also, the borders of the frame won’t mess with the pens like these canvas’ frame. :)
Hi, I use the mDesign divided lazy susan turntable storage container by MetroDecor (for $17.99) on Amazon to hold my Copic and other Alcohol markers; along with the Makartt Nail Polish holder for 60 bottles by PeBeauty (for $38.99) or the 48 count for $22.98 - used for holding Stickles or Nuvo Crystal drops. Both of these work extremely well and you can easily see what you have.

I feel so dumb for not thinking of this sooner. Thanks for sharing!
@@skwerwl me too. Thanks for sharing tim!
Genius!!!
Watch out with doing this. My glue stick got stuck inside the glue gun because I did this.
i thought everyone did this??? Guess I'm the only one

Tyfs! Hope you have a great week. Best of wishes to you and yours. ♥
It wasn't closing because there was a pen sliding down and getting jammed in the hinge lol
YES!!!!! Thank goodness I'm not the only one who noticed that. It was driving me nuts!
Omg I see what you mean xD
Need to close off the bottoms of each pocket maybe to keep them from sliding down
Not the reason it couldn't fit all the pens
But closing off the bottoms would limit the pen size that can go in.
It looks pretty cool, but I think I would probably just buy a pencil bag. 😁
If you don't need it to open you could just make the paper accordion and attach it to a single flat piece. Or you could attach it to a soft side binder. Either way you would save money since you wouldn't need the canvases or tape.
Sara Spear ooh what a good thought. Could also use cardboard or foam core
Yes! I was thinking some sort of built in weighted chipboard exterior, wrapped in decorative duct tap, but the soft binder is much more practical, & of course durable 👍🏼
Yours looks a billion times better than Buzzfeed's, theirs just looks like a wasps nest. 😂😂😂😂😂
Holo? Army?

A.M. pls no you’re damaging the reputation of bts
@@importanceofbeingfernest it was a joke?
It looks ok(still useless tho). You don't need to say it looks like a wasps nest just because its a trend to hate on buzzfeed.
I would try making a pencil case. Instead of wood using cloth and to join them with a zipper
Federica Morales i guess it would turn out really pretty!
That's a good idea actually
Please tell us if it worked
Good idea. I might try it in a plastic document holder box.
Thanks for explaining how this is made cuz Buzzfeed videos are always waaaaay too fast. Also thanks for showing how practical this DIY really is
I know, It's almost like if you blink, you miss half the instructions 😂 Thanks for watching!

Maybe instead of tape you could use hinges to keep the boxes together?
Absolutely love this diy btw! 😍
That would be a much better idea
And more affordable than an $11 roll of tape.
I love how you actually worked hard for that....... I would've given up in two seconds.
Im really glad you showed this diy bc in theory it is such a cool concept yet in practice it doesnt seem practical. Lolol watching you try to close the case was so funny- also kona is pure love, what a sweet faced pupper.
It was only not closing because your pens were literally falling into the middle hinge.
I was going to say the same thing. :)
Maybe a solution should be glue the bottom, so the pen won't fall. However, the length of paper needs to fit the pen you try to store. :)
my name is Belinda too
Nice to look at but its definitely not for us pen addicts!
It was fun to watch you put it together! I haven't thought about testing out other folks' projects - I like it a lot. Thank you for taking the time to see if it works!
Maybe buy a used cigar box from a cigar shop. They sell wood ones

I'd love to see more videos on trying other DIYs! It's great to see if things are really as useful / workable as they seem!
Since it only works as a display, you can move it to a flat board and use that wood canvas for another craft!

Looks great, love all the colors. I agree that it should be left open in the "display" mode. It's pretty enough to be on display.
I wonder if the pens slip thru the bottom. I would try to glue across the bottom when assembling or perhaps bind it somehow across there and see it that changes what you can hold in there when you close. This is so cute!! I love this idea on how to organize pens!
You should take the accordion insert and glue it in a shoe box or some other box stretched out to make a pen display like they have in art stores.

Thanks for doing all the work for me 😂😊♥️ Very cool project!
Ur doggie's so cute! And it's a great display piece.
Hilarious. It came out pretty, if not very practical. Your dog and office flooring are great.
It looks like if you had glued the bottom sides of the rainbow part, it would keep the pens from falling down between the sides of the wooden parts.
