    I remember a few years back. It was a lovely summer's morning. Sun was shining, birds were chirping and there was a man in a BMW 435i convertible. I looked at him and he glanced on forward and I just thought to myself, this guy knows exactly what he's about. I had instant respect for him as he sat there in his Melbourne Red Metallic 4 series convertible with the roof down on a lovely morning. It was a stunning car.

    I've had a 430i coupe for 3 years and it never fails to put a smile on my face when I drive it. It's the perfect balance between practicality and comfort while still being sporty. The back seats can carry 2 adults under 6' and the boot's a good size. The biggest improvement I made was to swap the tyres from run flats; instant reduction in road noise, got rid of the harsh ride and that's without the adaptive dampers so I would imagine with those fitted it would be an even bigger improvement. The interior whilst not the most exciting to look at is extremely well built with great ergonomics and not a single squeak or rattle. The red leather isn't as garish to look at in real life as it looks on camera. I also looked at the C Class couple which although looks more upmarket on the inside doesn't actually feel that classy once you start touching and prodding the materials. I had a remap put on mine so it's pushing close to 300hp now which has made a difference to not only performance but also economy, I'm averaging 40.5mpg. It really has been a pleasure to own the car and I'd highly recommend test driving one if you are in the market for a car like this.

    • @gw7624
      @gw7624 2 года назад +3

      What type of driving are you doing to get that fuel economy? I averaged 27mpg in my 325i with most of that on the motorway.

    • @thelastemperor3704
      @thelastemperor3704 2 года назад +6

      @@gw7624 mixed driving, probably 60% motorway. I was getting around 36 before I remapped it but saw a decent improvement afterwards. Obviously this is driving with a light right foot and only gunning it when I really need to. If I thrash it all the time I can soon see it drop to low 30s. I think the B48 is an under rated engine because its only a 4 pot, it might not have the sound we all love with the B58 but with the way fuel prices are these days I'm glad I didn't get the 440i as I think with the remap giving near 300hp its more than adequate for roads.

    Matt I purchased a 420d m sport grand coupe in April on a 68 plate and I still absolutely love it. I wasn’t looking to buy 1 but stumbled across it whilst looking on line for a new car !! It looked stunning and I saved it to my favourites , but after being disillusioned to dealers just wanting the deal to suit them instead of the customer , I couldn’t refuse the offer for said car. The drive is perfect in my opinion and feels very planted and solid on the road and like yours comes with some very good added extras. Yes it’s only a 2litre turbo diesel but once in sport mode it’s got some punch when needed but fuel economy is still very good 👍. For a car I wasn’t looking for…..this is going to be a purchase I’ll enjoy for quite a few years. Keep up the good work Matt Regards Kev

    Bought one of the last GC 420d M Sport models new in 2020.
    Rides extremely well, excellent mpg, acceleration very linear and just keep pulling - more than enough for general use. Excellent auto-box, and the BMW steering wheel is an absolute joy to hold.
    Downsides: a touch gruff on start up and in first gear, but into second and through the box becomes silky-smooth and quiet. Surprising that the door mirrors don’t fold in so you’re always a bit concerned in a car park or worried they’ll get knocked off if street parking, and bear in mind you sit much lower down than you might think in one of these - that would be seen as a positive for some, a pain for others. It’s a personal preference thing but it’s worth pointing out as not many reviewers mention this and if it’s an issue to you it might be best to look elsewhere. Hope that helps.

    I have the 435d iX Convertible. I disagree about the value of XDrive, as I find 4WD with Michelin CrossClimate tyres make it a great all rounder. I love the huge 6-cylinder torque, reasonable mg and surprisingly good ride comfort. The most surprising aspect is how utterly solid I feels with the roof down. I too have the red leather which suits the car well.

    During my last mid life crisis I bought a used 2016 435d X drive M Sport, lovely car but dangerously wooly steering. The 2018 435d X drive M Sport coupe I had was a slight improvement but I never understood why BMW failed so spectacularly to give us a car that could hold a straight line. Almost bought another the other day as I do miss the sheer power of these cars but can only afford 6 year fairly old high mile cars now so probably not the most sensible move.
