Darren Sproles was destined to play for the Philadelphia Eagles that red helmet says it all! Thank you brother Darren for helping my Eagles win Superbowl 52! #Fly Eagles Fly!
We small but are fast and agile as fuck ;) Also for tackles those 6 foot plus have to really adjust, bc our frame is so small for them that makes the "normal tackle" they would do to another 6 footer approach very differently ;)
Dam this was long over due thank you! loved watching him play. Sproles was the most elusive and versatile player ever. Getting to see him and antonio gates on the field together was hilarious and fun to watch.
One of my favorite players when I was a Philly fan. A special player that you don’t see in the league often enough. Big heart. His special teams play could turn games around. He was also dangerous in the backfield. He made teams respect the run, and he could catch. A dangerous weapon. Oh and the guy was tough.
D. Sproles is a real one. He responded back to me via direct message (on Facebook) back in 2009, at a time when celebrities NEVER responded to ANYONE! He's one of my all-time favors
@@Greatzinger67he’s not a bodybuilder tho😂 and those guys take steroids and stuff. He’s all natural and not only was he strong but he was among the fastest in the nfl
100% of your bodyweight for 20 reps is not very impressive dude. That’s average as hell for athletes. Benching 1.5x for 20 is a totally different beast.
@@johnny33long it’s not in the end of a scale from normal to freak athlete, But it’s a dramatically better test of strength and endurance than doing body weight. Once you’re pressing double for that amount, pretty crazy. And that’s not 1.5x sir, you need another 22.7 pounds on there, call it 250 for 20 reps. And actual reps, not drop to chest instantly and bounce it back up. 1-3 second eccentric and explode back up, no bounce.
As a chargers fan I loved him there and was sad to see him go. He was one of my favorite players to watch but I still loved seeing him have success on the Saints and Eagles..
Darren is a legend. I played at the same little league and high school. I'm impressed you said everything about the FCCJC Little League rules. It's true. They had a mercy rule: if you were up by 40, the game was over, and not only did they make him run tackle to tackle, but they limited the amount of touches per game he had. His story is just that it's about limits. Everyone put limitations on him, but he refused to accept them and instead used all that doubt to fuel him. Excellent life lessons can be learned from this humble man. Awesome, awesome video. Sorry for the rant really I just wanted to say how great you did with the video and thanks for showcasing this awesome human being.
Been a looooong time D. Sproles fan. Simply because we bout the same height and I played in highschool, and mostly because of his work ethic. Mans said, "What mismatch?!" Every rip!!
I'm not sure what's worse: NFL execs laughing at him when his height was measured at the combine. (Every last one of them deserved to be fired on the spot) or The Saints trading him for a 5th round pick. In what world are you going to find a player as productive as Darren Sproles in the 5th round? No wonder they went 7-9 so often.
I’m from Raymore, Missouri and I remember going to some of his HS Football games. He was the real deal, they couldn’t catch him or tackle him. Once he hit the corners - it was a score. He is an even better human being - got his autograph ✍️ when he was in high-school
Thanks for sharing. I remember seeing him play as an Eagles vs the Packers, even it was a blow out win for the Packers, Darren still play hard. I was glad to see one of my favorite players. He is such an inspirational player.
Great video Lauren! Darren Sproles was so fun to watch! Other short running backs that I think of now are Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Deuce Vaughn. Also you should do a video for some of my favorite Chiefs players, Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry
Darren Sproles was one of those "Never played for my team (: Jets) but I loved his game" athletes. Dude was as you said so damn shifty you couldn't help but watch him play. Jamal Lewis is another lesser acknowledged one I loved watching growing up - he let off a hell of a run on my Jets once that just from a sheer respect angle I couldn't get mad at, think he was with the Browns then.
Thank you for the video I became a Chargers fan in 2007 I’m glad I got to see him play as a Chargers Sucks we a GM at the time no paying players. always love watching him. I would always call him lightning bug⚡️⚡️
LOVED when i saw a segment awhile back about Sproles and his wife helping their two daughters train for track in school. Seemed like such a great family - super loving but also raising a couple killers on race day😂
I love this documentary! I remember going to Darren Sproles camp in high school for the weekend. He was a super quiet reserved dude. He bought us all iPod Nanos. Also, I loved how KU completely blew the bag and landed K State Darren Sproles.
Norv said it best "he's not small, he's short". Strong as fuck, twitchy and elusive as Barry, and could catch and block. Lightning bug ruled! PS: the word is "versus" not "verse".
Legit when I was editing this video I realized every time Darren had a career game it was against the Colts, like legit every time, even like a decade apart
I drafted this guy for my FF team every year I could. I had him on my team (and won the championship) the year he dropped 2400 all-purpose yards for the Saints. An all-time favorite of mine, Sproles was electric with the ball in his hands.
Howard Stevens of Louisville was also 5' 6" and led the nation in all-purpose yards for at least his senior year. He ended up playing for the Saints and led the NFL in punt and kick off returns. I always pull for the little man. At 5' 10", and 160 pounds, I played semi-pro in The Netherlands back in 1987 and 1988.
Bro, I watched him his whole career. I was a kid when he came on the scene. I never knew he was that small. I’ve always thought of him as one of the great. I can’t believe I didn’t know he was 5 foot six.
And to think Deuce Vaughn did the same thing to Oklahomas defense his final year at Kansas St to upset them a couple years ago. That was a sight to see.
I can't help but wonder if he was born a decade or 2 earlier, if he would have had to make a career in the CFL. Michael "Pinball" Clemons was my favourite athlete growing up. He's 5'6 as well and had a lot of similarities to Sproles.
Great video as always SheGotSports! Darren Sproles was a really good, tough player. He was great for my Saints and I hate that his time with our squad ended bad. I have no bad feelings toward him and still got love for him. Glad he was able to thrive with the Eagles and he is doing good working for them in his retirement.
I loved sproles when he was an eagle, was the game against Carolina where he had (I think) a rushing td, punt return td, and kickoff return td, he was such an awesome player.
Darren Sproles was one of a kind who was the shortest player in the NFL at 5 foot 6, 190 pounds coming out of Kansas State. I couldn’t believe he played 15 seasons in the NFL with different teams. He was indeed a force to be reckoned with! Known for his incredible agility and versatility, he made a significant impact as a running back and return specialist. Over his career, he accumulated 3,552 rushing yards, 4,840 receiving yards, and 23 touchdowns. His ability to make big plays in crucial moments earned him a reputation as one of the most elusive players in the NFL.🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
Great video Lauren I appreciate all these details here’s a fun fact for you all his high school that he played at Olathe North is actually big rivals with the high school in currently attending Gardner Edgerton.
Thank you for posting this. It is insane that such an accomplished player succeeding against the odds would receive so little attention! Love it though! ❤
I love his story and the fact that these people laughed at him only fueled his desire to succeed and I guarantee you he remembered every last person that laughed at him and when he played against them he smoked their a$$. Great story and would probably be a really good movie.
I am from Olathe KS. Darren's home town. I attended Olathe South and he went to Olathe North. I am many years older than Darren, but I still remember hearing about his first game a s a Jr in high school. I was at a local Hy-Vee Grocery store and Sproles was standing in line next to me. I'm 5'9 and he is exactly 5'6. One of the very best players ever from Olathe KS, if not the greatest.
One of the few good things about getting older is you get to watch a guy’s whole career and really remember it. I remember seeing him at KSU and wondering if there was any chance he could show off those skills in the NFL at his size. What a great career he had
I played against him in the high school 6A state championship. Manhattan High vs Olathe North. He had 20 carries for 200 yards. I never knew the story about how the Jayhawks did him dirty. He beat us on that very Jayhawks field. Coming from Manhattan, having him come to K State was amazing and exactly the vindication I needed for losing to his team my senior year. Class act.

Darren Sproles was hard to get after cause his speed was dangerous that's why he was called the lightning bug for a reason what a career he had with Chargers, Saints and Eagles

The 2007 San Diego Chargers had a squad that looked like they were lock to win the Super Bowl. They a backfield of LaDainian Tomlinson, Darren Sproles, Michael Turner & Lorenzo Neal. The 2007 Chargers had QB Phillip Rivers throwing to TE Antonio Gates and WRs Vincent Jackson, Chris Chambers, Malcolm Floyd, and Kassim Osgood. They went 11-5 in the Regular Season and made it to the AFC Championship, that they lost to Tom Brady and the Patriots. The only reason the Chargers didn’t win the Super Bowl that year was of their Head Coach, Norv Turner.
Being a small RB is a huge advantage in football. Harder to tackle and can run through smaller holes in the line. It's not all about trucking through the lines. It's about speed and avoiding tackles. I think the recruits really don't understand the physical nature of football sometimes.
