  • Yesterday (in my mind at least) my intent was for the color relationships within the painting to be analogous. I should've known better. I still had that objective in my mind during this week and what better way to attempt it than by painting Jorge Luis Borges. I wanted to paint him like somebody who could mutter something unintelligible that could change your life. In today's video I also took an opportunity to speak about one of the greatest visual storytellers ever, Alberto Breccia (obv because of his Borges in Perramus). Without Breccia, there would be no McKean, no Sienkiewicz, no Miller. A genius like no other. Enorme Breccia!!!

Borges: A writer or any artist has the sometimes joyful duty to transform all that into symbols. These symbols could be colors, forms or sounds.

Wonderful channel, I am seeing so many possibilities of expressions that lies in the language of art. People always focus too much on narrations and forgets about a painting’s innate advantage to represent a state, whether mental or physical, through its very own artistic language.

I've been a big fan of Hugo Pratt for a long time. It looks like I need to read some Alberto Breccia. Thank you Nicolas!

Brilliant painting and... BRECCIA!!! I've had a manga sized copy of Mort Cinder for a long time because that's all I could get my hands on in the US but I am super happy that Fantagraphics has been reprinting his library of works. My manga Mort was like looking at a bad Kinko's photocopy but now with these new editions I can see Breccia's actual lines...CRAZY GOOD! Just got the new edition of Perramus and can't wait to finally read it in English... my Martes de Español ain't going so good! 😂

Hace poco descubrí tu canal, me relaja verte pintar y escuchar cómo explicas mientras lo haces. Tus vídeos me inspiraron a interpretar la pintura de otra forma

what pencils do you use to lay in your panting's and do you use the same thing when you paint on larger formats?

I use water soluble color pencils, but honestly the brand doesn't matter. I've many times used my daughter's color pencils from her school!

@@OurPaintedLives I wasn't sure if there was something special about them. I've used colored pencils as well and I've had it where sometimes they start spreading into the paint, maybe I was using too much gamsol at the time, I don't use it in my painting practice anymore, only for cleanup
