Because it was too early for Mike to be a name partner but later on he ran his own firm in Seattle with Harvey so maybe that firm was called Specter Ross. Mike wanted to help people.
I like how the series starts with Louis Litt wanting to be a partner at the firm and ends with him being a name partner and that too starting with his last name :- Litt Wheeler Williams Bennett. A true ending !
It's funny that the characters actually comment on how often the firm changes its name, and in the series finale Louis places an embargo on changing the name for the next five years.
People say that a serious law firm wouldn't survive so many name changes but considering what these jokers are up to over the course of the series, they wouldn'y have any credibility to lose anyway.
I like to believe that even Gordan Schmidt Van Dyke wasn't the original, long before Pearson and Hardman came along, Gordan, Schmidt and Van Dyke found some dirt on previous name partners and that kept happening for a very long time
Arthur reeves was the founder of the firm , and I would have guessed it started with Reeves LLP or simply Reeves, then when Stanley Gordon and his other partners found dirt on Arthur reeves. He disbarred him and took the firm and renamed the firm to Gordon Schmidt Van Dyke.
1:30 was so tagged on. Imagine working for YEARS as a top-notch lawyer and then 2 "younglings" get name partner after like 1-2 years. Also imagine going to clients and having to say: "Hi, I'm John Johnson and I work for Zane Specter Litt Wheeler Williams". Does NOT go off the tongue easily.

Remember when Namepartner used to be a big deal (only Harvey as an exceotional lawyer) in earlier seasons and was like a last resort to save a firl (Darby)? Later they gave it out for solid work (Wheeler Whittaker). Specter Litt Wheeler Whittaker. Even in short version it sounds hard I work for "Es - el - double u - double u"

From beginning Jessica and Harvey had big fight over the merger and managing partners but at the end, they both exited from the firm.
The latter seasons just became a joke and insufferable. ‘Pearson Hardman’ will always be the glory days where the show had substance.
IRL the name of the firm stays even after the partner leaving as the name becomes a brand. They literally sold named Partner like candies by the end.
