- Dynasty was premiered at the 2019 British Open Brass Band Championships and pays tribute to one of the brass community's legendary figures, Harry Mortimer (1902 - 1992). Using key passages from Mortimer's autobiography On Brass as the source for the narrative and in keeping with the "heritage" nature of the subject, the work takes the form of a Symphonic Poem, a musical structure first introduced to contest audiences at the Crystal Palace in 1913. The work opens with a four-note leitmotif and the timeline unfolds as follows:
0:06 1 - Harry (One's destiny decided at birth “I'll make him the best cornet player in England”).
2:21 2 - War (Why do the nations so furiously rage together? Fred volunteers for military service)
3:50 3 - Theatre (And suddenly “I dashed to the rescue like a hero in the silent movies I was about to get to know so well”)
4:34 4 - Journey (Rejoice greatly “A new life in Cheshire with a promising band called Foden's”)
6:45 5 - Together (Come unto me “A golden age”)
7:48 6 - Farewell (For behold, darkness “Fred's death surely marked the passing of an era”)
11:30 7 - Amen (The Trumpet shall sound - Farewell reprised)

Solo horn is superb! What a sound and style.
Eupho awesome....Cornet and Eupho duet best ever...great composer affect
Euphonium 👍👍👍👌👌👌
Walked behind Black Dyke on Whit Friday many times. Went to listen on the field at Mount Tabor and we knew immediately Black Dyke were playing.
Inexplicable, but unique sound!
Still like this performance the best of them all. Wow, what a great ending.
This the highest quality playing you would det any where well done
That Horn player 8:00 Omg in Love.. That Sop is a cracking player.
Sop player good but very very wobbly
12:25 soprano BEAST MODE
all soprano cornet players are beasts because we have to be!
Some spectacular lead tenor playing in this.
That was incredible!!!!! Wow!
#SEMPER FIDELIS #QUA PATET ORBIS #JE MAINTAN DRAI ! ♫♪ great ♫♪♫♪♫♪☺ BRAVISSIMO @/bisbis 🎶🎵🎼 great music! a well tuned ensemble that sounds like an organ ! Fabulous banding! Compliments! #SEMPER FI #QPO #JMD
Richard Marshall is my idol and he did an awesome job, just that bit before the whistling, when I heard it my heart sank but the rest of the performance great, still can’t decide for myself if Fodens or Dyke were better
pretty unkind thing to say for someone who's apparently your "idol"
best musical interpretation & performance, but best overall is from CORY with 1 point ahead for deep layers, dynamics and nuances ! ♫♪ ♫♪great sound! ♫♪♫♪ ☺ ♥ ♫♪☺♫♪ great ♫♪♫♪♫♪☺ BRAVISSIMO @bisbis 🎶🎵🎼 great music! a well tuned ensemble that sounds like an organ ! Fabulous banding
I prefer Fodens.
First time hearing this, brilliant!
Euphonium x Soprano Cornet X But every section is tight. Bravo Mr Childs
Respect Sir Harry X
what is the description of the work in the video?
11:32 Eb Bass on a Wick? I thought the boys used the Bach 24aw
Daniel Faundez almost no one uses Bach anymore. Perantucci or Alliance is the way to go.
These Guys can play on a plastic pipe as mouthpiece !!
They are Britisch not German !,
Katrinas face at 9:56... ??
Almost like she’s disgusted with the tenor horns playing 😂
@@Tward2929 1st trombone is really early
this is definitely drum corps material
10:25 bloody hell whats going on with that vib in the cornets lmao
Classic and perfect english brass band tutti vib on order to create intensity...
Its picked up much better by mics than the adjudicators in a big hall. The vib makes the sound travel better so in the hall i am sure it sounded great!
Vibrato preference is like ketchup on fries (or chips).....too much vibrato for me from the tenor horn. Just my preference tho.
Sorry Tim..!
He is an American. And if he is an American horn player than it is certainly a no go....
@@siobhanthehorn you’re a beast, don’t listen to me. Love your tone and technique. Exquisite.
Just like in the old days
Extremely messy around 4mins in. The cornets not together. I had this performance much lower down the results table.
@Brass It Up! Improvisation is the key?
I also heard Cory and felt they were a bit more successful with their performance.
I've heard the top 3 on this channel , numerous times now. Still can't choose between them.
Soprano clammed his note at 3:40. Points off for that, I'm sure.
@@mikeprevost8650 Pathetic that would be.
