Jay, that hand drum is one thing, but the banjo surprised me too. I wasn’t expecting that in an Irish pub. And the “flute” is kind of unique to the British Isles I believe. Beautiful Irish countryside, old Irish customs, A great fight scene for Jay, and a wonderful love story. Lots of fun Irish characters that round out the whole movie. Please react to it on Monday.
The movie is good, but did you ever read the short story on which it was based? Don't want to spoil, but I liked the "fight" better in the short story.
You have to go, both Ireland and Scotland. Go to those pubs. It's my dream to go to the land my great great grandparents came from and I haven't gotten there yet at age 54. Do it! ☘️☘️☘️

The line in the song "the only crack you'll get is a slap in the head" is actually "The only craic you'll get is a slap in the head". Craic is an Irish word meaning "Crazy" or "Fun". The drum that you see him holding and beating with a stick is a Bodhran - pronounced bow (like the bow of a ship)-ron, and is a traditional musical instrument of the Irish. I played one for years (not well sadly) The small "flute" that you hear is called a tin whistle - another traditional instrument.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! According to ancestry, I am something like 80% Irish by blood, and I was lucky enough to live there for about 18 months while doing my Master's degree at University College Dublin. Toward the end of my time there, I received what I still consider to be my favorite compliment I have ever received. I was in a pub (of course) and I was talking to my Irish friends, and a couple locals asked me how long I been in Ireland. I told them almost 18 months, and they laughed and said "We can tell." Apparently, although I retained my American accent, my sense of humor and slang had adapted to life in Ireland. They said I "talked like a Dub" (Dubliner). And even though Ireland doesn't make nearly as big of a deal of St. Patrick's Day as we do, my Irish St. Patrick's Day story is EPIC. It encompasses more than 17 hours of drinking all over the city of Dublin.
This song is about the trend of bars branding themselves as Irish Pubs because it is a popular aesthetic but missing what makes an Irish Pub an Irish Pub

This is 1 of those obscure groups that should have a lot more fans but they definitely need more exposure. Lots of fine songs.

You can see why some people say that rock drew a lot from old celtic music. There are a lot of politics involved these days trying to make it otherwise but drums and swinging, rolling music existed well before rock even started. Roots aren't always obvious but when you dig deeper you begin to see the references. I think rock is more of an extension of that music, with blues added at times. There are Irish and Scots people all over the world and they surely had a big influence on the development of music.
Best lyrics ever....LOL whale oil beef hooked They are actually from Australia. St Paddy's day is a violent holiday where St. Padraig wanted to spread Christianity across Ireland to the Pagan natives (the "snakes" that he swept from Ireland} and if they didn't covert, many times they were killed.
Reminds me of my local when I was a kid in Sydney - the El Rancho, or "The Ranch" as it's called now. Fights in the carpark on Saturday nights, and all us underagers getting pissed on Thursday night after Late Night Shopping. Never did see the cops harass the place, so presumably they were keeping their payments up at the time. 😁
No it's not. St. Padraig was a slave. He had learned of Christianity and wanted to spread it when he was taken to Ireland. He used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. Three parts of one whole. And there are no snakes in Ireland, so many people believe he actually banished the real snakes. I don't know about that but it's a cool story. Edit: Well I missed some things. He was British and captured by Irish, taken there to be a slave, while in his teens. He escaped after six years and eventually got back to his family, but felt called to go back to Ireland to convert the pagans to Christianity. He was nearly martyred many times, and many Irish converts were martyred, so it's much the opposite of what you said. It wasn't Padraig "violently" spreading Christianity, but rather him doing so under constant threat of his own death.
They are actually from Sydney and this song is quite popular by the Irish diaspora, Celtic Punk has been popularized by The Pogues and The Waterboys (during their Irish phase) in the late 80s. Irish open air festivals have been very popular since then all over Europe.
Sitting here in Ireland. Scratching my head. I only barely heard of one of your choices for St Patricks day. What happened to Wolfe Tones, Dubliners The fureys, The Chieftains, Planxty Etc

Besides honouring your subscribers from around the world on their special days with music from their country - I would ALSO suggest that you do the same with your movie channel. (If the movie can't be on the exact day, then maybe the Friday before or the Monday after.) I don't know when the next special day is for Irish people (as I am not Irish), but whenever it is, I suggest for your MOVIE Channel - The Gangs of New York, if you haven't already seen it. This movie was really well done - (it won 9 Academy Awards!) & has a lot of huge name actors in it - incl. Liam Neeson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz etc., etc., etc. It gives you an idea about what the early days of New York City were like, especially from a new Irish immigrant perspective.
Very cool. 😎 ☘️🇮🇪 But you did miss one very Irish family group, The Corrs. You have done them before, “Breathless”. They sound more pop but always include some traditional Irish instrumentals on there cd’s.

They are actually from Sydney and this song is quite popular by the Irish diaspora, Celtic Punk has been popularized by The Pogues and The Waterboys (during their Irish phase) in the late 80s. Irish open air festivals have been very popular since then all over Europe.
Slainte!!! This music is Best Craic in the world!!!!
Sitting here in Ireland. Scratching my head. I only barely heard of one of your choices for St Patricks day.
What happened to Wolfe Tones, Dubliners The fureys, The Chieftains, Planxty Etc
Whale oil beef hooked, it's "The Rumjacks".
Who doesn't love an Irish singalong or sea shanty!
Should check out...If I Ever Leave This World Alive by Flogging Molly
I hope yall checkout some of their newer stuff too. Amazing band. Sainted millions is amazing.
Wow, another band I've never heard of, what planet do I live on again? I thought this was Earth 65 but apparently it's Earth 1. I've been under a rock I guess. I'll pick "Fistful Of Roses" next. This was a blast.
Castles and ruins of castles are all over the place in Ireland.
Pubs are the BEST places to eat as well!
Bodhran and tin whistle, very Irish. Excellent group from down under.
I think you guys would really enjoy Skinny Lister. They’re an English band that does “shanty punk.” Check out “Trouble on Oxford Street” or “If the Gaff Don’t Let Us Down.”
Besides honouring your subscribers from around the world on their special days with music from their country - I would ALSO suggest that you do the same with your movie channel. (If the movie can't be on the exact day, then maybe the Friday before or the Monday after.)
I don't know when the next special day is for Irish people (as I am not Irish), but whenever it is, I suggest for your MOVIE Channel - The Gangs of New York, if you haven't already seen it.
Guys u need to come and see The Highlands Scotland!! Stunning
Happy St Pats day! Heres a song that rocks from the start. The band is Kings X and the song is Its love. I think you will like it. Enjoy
When you go there you have to go to Killarney in the Cork and Kerry mountains. It is the most beautiful place in the world.
Very cool. 😎 ☘️🇮🇪 But you did miss one very Irish family group, The Corrs. You have done them before, “Breathless”. They sound more pop but always include some traditional Irish instrumentals on there cd’s.
My favorite Irish song is probably “devil’s dance floor” by flogging Molly, one of my favorite Irish bands, hope you guys get a chance to check it out sometime
The drum at the start is a bodhran (pronounced bow-rawn, bow as in bowing to an audience, and raw-n). If you do come to Ireland you can visit Scotland as well very easily and very cheaply.
I love the alternative stuff just like Amber.
M.Ward!
Jay & Amber, when are you going to do Angelina Jordan again? Remember, you were blown away by her arrangement of "I PUT A SPELL ON YOU" at age 9 in 2015. She just had her first live Vegas show last month. Wish I could have gone. Check out her FEELING GOOD at age 10, or BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY at 13 when Heide Klum gave her the golden buzzer on AGT the Champions. Angelina is a true prodigy, not to mention a beautiful and humble young lady. Please please react to her again.❤
Check out Jump Around by House of Pain. A classic Irish themed hip hop track
Hello, for Scotland, y'all must try either Glenfiddich or Glenlivet (pure malt Scotch), nothing like the crappy tasting mixed Scotch that ya may have tried! No water or mix needed, very smoothe(sp?)🤔!!! Go to their distillery also... Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 😇🙏👊
one of my fav piss up songs
I love the Thin Lizzy shirt you should react to one of their songs you probably heard boys are back in town if you haven't already reacted to it. Lead singer Phil lynott is an Irish icon
Fantastic!!
Another fun introduction and experience. Time for a Guinness
Or two. You do have two hands.
The phrase "Pog Ma Hone" (not sure of spelling) means kiss my ass in Gaelic. Awesome choice, I can just see the crew at Johnny McCracken's on Marietta Square singing this one!!
I caught that line in the song and was wondering if anyone would mention it in comments.
@@NavvyMom Sadly the only Gaelic that I know.
@@raymondohlsen5054 I learned what it meant from my sister who with a friend spent the summer after she graduated high school in Wildwood NJ, working odd jobs, chambermaid etc. at the motels. She met a lot of Irish who were over here for work and learned it from them. That was in 1983.
@@NavvyMom I learned it from my ex-wife, who went full tilt into her Irish heritage for a while.
