Bad HVAC Capacitor Diagnosis

A quick video on how to test a capacitor using a Fluke 1587 meter. This test could be done using any meter that can test capacitance & AC voltage.

Hi Tony,
What symptoms does the compressor exhibit when the start and / or run capacitors are bad? Does it tend to trip a breaker, not start, slow start, run loudly, something else?

Everything you mention can be a symptom. Most common is that the compressor won’t start and pulls high amperage until the internal overload opens.
