  • A quick video on how to test a capacitor using a Fluke 1587 meter. This test could be done using any meter that can test capacitance & AC voltage.
Here's the Fluke 1587 meter like I have:

Tony Thrasher is obviously a competent tech who has invested in a proper meter, and who therefore brings the right tool to the job. He provides a well-reasoned explanation and plausible diagnosis, and is probably an honest HVAC tech.

We want our customers to trust us to work in their best interest. It's so hard to find contractors/technicians who aren't just out for a $ grab. We are a for profit business but we treat people fairly and ethically. Thanks for the comment.

    Hi Tony,
What symptoms does the compressor exhibit when the start and / or run capacitors are bad? Does it tend to trip a breaker, not start, slow start, run loudly, something else?
    Thank you very much!

Everything you mention can be a symptom. Most common is that the compressor won’t start and pulls high amperage until the internal overload opens.
