    Just had to watch this again, the Hanse 675 is a steller sailboat! On the interior shots I did not hear any moans, cabinets or floor squeeking. The boat was built tight for sure. I do not enjoy boat noise, I do love the sound of the sea as it rushes by. Be happy, be safe.

    The T-top looks like a nice option. Nice place to sit and relax as opposed to being completely exposed in a 'normal' cockpit. Any thoughts on the advantages vs. disadvantages of this set-up?

      As a former racer I find the T Top a bit dumpy looking but the advantages are too numerous to catalogue. I will never go back.

      @@mfinlay1967 yes I am a former racer as well and initially thought the same, but I am gradually coming around😁. Once the boat gets big enough the profile starts to look ok, and Hanse seems to do a good job drawing these. Yet another reason to buy a big boat!

    You guys are so blessed to live this opportunity in your lives, can you number the issues you had with the ship?? just to now how well is build by hanse, if you don't mind. You see this is one of my goals in life to own a brand new Hanse 675.

      The boat performed spectacularly on the Atlantic crossing. We had breakdowns, but they were related to sails and rigging, not the boat. When we took delivery of the boat, we had normal shakedown issues. One problem with a helm station was major, but was repaired by Hanse quickly. All other warranty items were similarly covered without issue.

    Love this boat. My wife says she would move aboard as our house. We like the other owners berth layout they make. 😀I can’t afford even with selling my house, cars, other boats. 😢

    I see lots of hand steering, was it by option? or the autopilot couldn't handle the stern rounding? just curious about the behaviour of the boat.. thanks

    • @mfinlay1967
      @mfinlay1967  4 года назад +7

      The swell was bigger than it appears in the video, and yes, we had trouble getting the autopilot to handle it, given that we were trying to sail as low as possible without jibing. We could have sailed higher with the autopilot, but it would have taken us longer. If I had to do it over again, I'd have done it with two poles, special headsails and no main. Then you don't need to worry about accidental jibes of that huge mainsail.

    great experience, well done.
    What modifications have you made to the boat for the crossing?
    did you change the sails? did you have a watermaker?is the radar the standard one, or is it tilting? or is the boat already valid for the ocean crossing?

    • @mfinlay1967
      @mfinlay1967  2 года назад

      Everything was standard kit with the 675 (which is quite comprehensive). We did purchase a spinnaker which helped a lot of course. We have a watermaker, which was excellent. We even ran the washing machine twice, keeping us all smelling nice!

      @@mfinlay1967 thanks for the reply. Disappointing such an awsome boat like that had such an important failing. Seems like alot of work to have to handsail for 3 weeks. However, when you showed the speed a few times it looked like the boat was pretty fast.

    You say that you were unable to get video of "the drama" can you tell us about the drama? I mean what exactly happened? As much or as little detail as you choose, of course.

    • @mfinlay1967
      @mfinlay1967  4 года назад +5

      There was nothing dangerous, just normal wear and tear for a 3,200 mile crossing. We shredded a Code 0 when it caught on the radar housing in a flog; snapped a genoa sheet in a squall (had to go up the mast to replace because of a very high clew); had a couple of mild broaches while sailing with the chute in big waves and wind; had three unplanned jibes, one of which caused a snapped preventer; and we chafed through the cover of the spinnaker halyard three times.
