I really like when he gives time stamps in the description so if there is certain thing we’d like to see again we can go right to it.
Called timestamps retard
My wife doesn't know what's happened to me, she used to get home and I'd be watching RUclips for the latest gadgets or video games. Now she gets in and the majority of the time you're on the TV 🤣. I am a first time grower in the UK and have followed all of your advice on various vegetables. I've done everything from seed and almost a 100% success rate. Now its just keeping them alive 😁 Look forward to more of your videos
Lol. I love it. So funny🤣🤣🤣
Great list of tips. Another tip for adding Calcium to the soil which I do every year. I keep my eggshells and let them dry out and then crush them up in a container. When I need to start potting I blend the crushed eggshells up using a blender with the coffee bean/nut blade which results in a fairly fine powder. Then you can use the powder as an additive to your soil. Instead of spending money you're now using a product you would normally just throw out. I've been doing this for 3 years now and haven't seen blossom end rot since. ;oP
Don't use your good blender for the egg shells. It'll burn up.
One of my favourite things about you is how validational you are about the emotions involved in gardening. You are so emotionally intelligent and aware, like a guidance counselor for gardening
Thank you!

If you live in a colder shorter growing season don't top your peppers. They won't recover in time.

I was sad because a slug cut the top leaves of my pepper plant. You made my day by telling that's a good thing to do :D !
Did the work for you.
İbrahim Aygül - You won’t be disappointed!
never knew a Gardener slug lol : )
Great video, well edited. Just what I needed. I planted 20 peppers a couple of days ago...wish I had watched your video first. Thank you for being concise and not using music.
I believe you're the best RUclips gardener I've come across who explains things in detail. Very good content 👌
Thank you!
Wow! This is another video that I need to rewatch and make notes...so much great information. You helped me understand so many things that frustrated me with peppers. The possibility of keeping them growing from year to year is awesome!!!! Thanks again, Brian, for all the time you invest in helping us. Your videos are far and away the best gardening videos on RUclips! They are almost “Calming” to watch. You have a soothing voice and delivery which helps me feel hopeful even though I’m not a very experienced gardener. You make your videos so “personal “. When you tell us to come closer, we know we’re getting ready to receive some really good info! 😄. And the humor when you told us to get back and the mask comment was priceless Thanks again to my favorite Gardening Guru!!!❤️❤️❤️. Nearly 200,000 subs....the growth of your channel says it all!
Thank you Rose! It's so funny I have had so many people say that about my voice. I have always hated my voice. However on all the hours I've spent editing my videos I've learned at least to accept it🤣🤣
Rose is right. You’ve got a great tone. And I appreciate that you’re not hyper, weird, or boring like other channels I’ve found.
@@kconway2263 I stopped looking for new gardening channels. Due to the weirdos and misinformation.
Thank you!😀
Thank you😀
Now I know why my father called anyone he didn't like a "sapsucker" Love your videos
Excellent information thankyou. You speak so clearly, and not too fast. So I take notes. You explain step by step. And thankfully no music blaring in the background.
I am 78 years young but I joy your videos I always have thing to learn and then some. R
Definitely one of the best channels to learn from. I always come back here when I’m at odds with what to do!! Thanks in advance! These peppers are going to make Salsa and Chili! Til next time.
Wow! I need peppers to add to my garden. Thanks to some of your viewers and to you, I’ve learned quite a bit. Thanks.
This has been the most in-depth lesson on peppers I've found. Thank you for this!
Great information! Thorough & very easy to follow instructions, excellent delivery & sprinkled with humor! Thank you, thank you! Did not know peppers were perennials!🤗🌱
"come here" had blue's clues vibes 😂
“Back up and you don’t even have a mask on” lol 🤣🤣🤣
That was great! 😂🙌🏻
SORRY, I FAT-FINGERED MY REPLY - LOL- I ACTUALLY LOVED THE COMMENT!
I laughed out loud at that 😂
Loved this comment, too! Made me chuckle. 😆
Brian, you are fast becoming my Go-To Garden Guy! I'm in the Northern Sacramento Valley area of California and most other channels are in far different Zones > but the #1 reason is really all about you, your presentation & the Great Knowledge you share❣️
I love the timelines at the bottom of your videos
You can use finely ground egg shells as calcium addition. I do this with both my tomatoes and peppers and it works wonderfully.
I had an 80 year old Gardner use powder buttermilk on her garden for calcium :)
Yes .. I posted about this too. If you go to a place where they sell out of date foods .. like powdered potatoes or damaged can goods .. you will also be able to find some out of date powdered milk .. sprinkle it on the ground under the plants. Water will carry it to the root zone.
Brilliant
I found you by accident and have learned so much! I am in the process of pot planting vegetables and herbs in pots. I have subscribed and am looking forward to all your upcoming episodes. You are my university of vegetable growing. Thank you so much!
I agree totally. Brian is the best!
I've never heard of the digging it out, pruning it and prepping it for winter bonus method. Thabks for that one for sure.
I'll be doing this with mine to see if they can be saved over the winter!
Cool video. I had a tomatoe plant that i grew for 4 yrs. So sad when it bit the dust
Several things:
First, you can get most every superhot pepper to germinate in 4-10 days by putting in trays with moist starter mix, then put trays on heat mat at 80 degrees setting, covered with dome. Much easier then paper towel which if not monitored allows roots to grow into towel, damaging roots.
Second, when pinching tops, you will set back plants 2-4 weeks. This is great, and I do it too, but you need to add that into time for starting plants indoors.
Third, there are organic nutrients that build the stem wall to allow strong stems as plants get big so that cages and sticks aren’t necessary, unless you expect a 4-5 foot plant with hundreds of peppers.
How do you make sure your peppers come out hot and not tasting like bell pepper
Just that phosphorus, and taking the tip off helped so much.
Thank you sooooo much. Answered all questions to get us ready to spot a problem before it occurs or gets hard to handle. Newbie in Florida 9b.
As a rule of thumb, the hotter the pepper is, the longer it takes to sprout and it also grows slower. Tabasco is also superslow and a bit tricky imo despite not being that hot.
Iam new at growing peppers. My habaneros even with it being fulling grown it's only produced 5 so far. I do fertilize it but not every time I water. I fertilize every other water. Is there anything iam doing wrong or is that the way habaneros grow? I do live in an apartment I don't have a balcony or patio or back yard. But my two living room windows get enough sun that I sometimes have to go to my bedroom due to how hot my living room gets. Thank you for that rule of thumb. Hope you have a wonderful and blessed weekend and coming week. Sending love and air hugs from the central coast of Cali. Happy growing season.
I grow Bhut jolokia (ghost peppers). Slow growing, beautiful mini-tree looking. EXTREMELY hot with a very tasty, fruity flavor. NEVER touch the pepper with bare skin, I cut and prepare using utensils and or rubber gloves. Clean hands & utensils thoroughly with good oil resolving soap.
Thank you for the tips. I learned a few new things to help my peppers along today. Stay well and thank you for all the helpful tips for our "pandemic vegetable gardens!"
Peppers are one of our favorites, too! :) So many different flavors and colors... yum!
Wow! It’s my first time growing any plants from seed and any gardening at all. This was extremely helpful!
I'm going with: Yes, that was enough information, and thank you.
Thank You. Sounds like you covered everything! I’m on year 5 with my Bhut jolokia plant. I prune aggressively in early Spring. South Louisiana.
Truly you have one of the best garden program in the world. Bravo !
Thank you!
This was great! Thank you. It’s my first year growing a pepper plant.
OMG I just learned I can keep my pepper plants for next year and maybe beyond! I live in zone 10A, Orange, CA they should do just fine. Thank you so much for your tips!
Yup I'm in zone 10A also. Should do just fine!
I’m in Zone 9a and my Ghost Pepper plant has been growing since 2015. After it froze in 2017 because I forgot to cover it, I put in in the ground Jun 2018, and now it has a healthy root system. It comes back huge and produces fruit until December. Right now, it has over 100 flowers.
@@allenmarquez8805 Wow, that's amazing!
Looks like I’ll be topping my peppers this year. I have a variety of pepper, all mild, many of which were grown from store-bought peppers. Sweet bananas are my favorite and are the best to grow here in SE Tennessee. Hard to keep up with picking them. 😊 Thank you for yet another great video!
That sweet banana pepper thing is true. I planted just 1 here in Eastern KY last year at the end of June. By mid July I had about 14 peppers and after I harvested the first time it was doubling in size every month until late September. It's so much fun.
my 12.5-year-old son recently started a small garden. he found this video to be very helpful.
I had my first successful pepper crop last year. Prior to that, my peppers were always thin walled and not very good. Last year I just let them go on and on and on. One day I ate one while gardening and it was marvelous, I had been picking them way too early for years...
I have cayanne and a serano going for about 3 years now
Dude!! Nice!
Is jalapeno perennial?
Can anyone tell me what veggies are perennials?
yonis majano peppers can be perennial depending on where you live, if you live in a hot tropical climate, they’re perennial, however if you live in most places in America or Canada, they are annuals. People bypass this however by keeping them outdoors in the summer and then bring them indoors in pots during the winter under grow lights.
yonis majano there aren’t many vegetable perennials but one of them are asparagus. Most fruit however are perennial such as strawberries blueberries and almost any other fruit!
I always enjoy your early morning uploads. Even though I already know how to grow peppers this was very helpful in reminding me some of the basics and to not be scared to top my plants.
This is the first year that I had a great pepper harvest in a while and it is because of this video!! Thank you!
That's great!
18:34 thank you, I took notes and looking forward to planting tomorrow. After I pick up some rock phosphate 😊
That helped a ton on the problems I was having with sun scalding here in AZ even with a sun shade cloth, thanks for your help as always!
Thank you for the peroxide tip. My paper towels sometimes get spots of mildew. That should definitely help. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it when I use it for algae in hydroponics. So simple, yet so genius. I usually sprout mine by putting them on the windowsill. Between the sun and the heat register nearby, they sprout pretty quickly. No heat mat required. I don’t like to use a heat mat when I’m gone or asleep. I’m scared it’ll catch fire. PS - I love your videos. Very informative and great delivery.
Thank you!
I live in the Caribbean and it's so difficult to cultivate tomatoes to my little experience and hearabouts so I'm so excited to experience trellis growing. :-)
Yes should really help with the heat and humidity. If you can find a variety that is more heat tolerant that would also be good
Total enjoyment..Now you got me excited. I'm going to get alot more Pepper plants. And serval different kinds. Thanks🌱
The over wintering idea....love it! I will try that as an experiment this coming winter. I have 5 different varieties of peppers. I'll take a couple of each and see which does best. Love it. Thanks!!!!!
Good luck 👍
I learned about the nitrogen today and cutting back for more yield thanks for the tip two things on my to-do list this year
Thank you for the info on peppers especially about the insects 🌻💕🙌🏾🙌🏾
You’ve inspired me, I’m gonna try growing peppers!
I love growing peppers. The giant Marconi and sweet banana was a good one my kids would pick and eat straight out of the garden after school.
I used your pepper technique for an early crop of peppers and it worked beautifully! Only problem now is that I have 15 cubanelle peppers growing on a single plant and I can’t plant outdoors until mid May (NJ). Anxious for spring. Thank you for all your tips!
Valuable amount of info, thank you.
I was horrified when I accidentally broke off the top of one of my pepper plants. You can imagine my relief when I saw what you did and why. I am looking forward to getting loads of peppers this year. I planted both jalapeno and habanero peppers besides my bellpeppers. Oh yes, and I will take off tops off the other peppers too. Thank you.
top them, then dont forget to remove the "suckers" on the lower 4-6 leaves, leaving only 4, i repeat 4 on the upper most portion of the stem...this will keep your peppers out of the dirt as they mature and send 4 massive stalks out at relatively the same height producing way more than a single stem could dream of! as u can tell i lovee my peppers... golden cayenne and hot anaheims for me this year, god bless.
@@hilow8331 Thank you!
I am watching this and finally seeing my seeds germinate. ! Thanks!
I germinated 8 out of 9 Purple Beauty and 8 out of 9 Red Knight with help of heat mat , made a world of difference. My seeds germinated in six days ! I used Pro Mix seed starter this year instead of peat pellets .
I planted my pepper plants WAY too close this year but they’re going so well. I can tell the spacing prevents some from growing to maximum capacity but the amount of pepper plants helps offset that. Since I have no frost, I’m going to make sure the next time I plant them I do it right. Hopefully then I’d be able to keep them there for many years to come.
You're lucky to have no frost date. 😉😉😉
Peppers should touch their hands. That is the best distance.
I've gone to places where they sell damaged canned goods or out of date foods. Look around for powdered milk that is out of date (huge discount) .. and sprinkle the powdered milk on the ground under tomato and pepper plants to help with the calcium needs. Great video BTW! Love that idea of taking the top of the plant off and redirecting the energy!
Great tip!
Merwin ARTist great advice, I don’t think I have such a store nearby but I am going to try the dollar tree.
@@waterlily9349 .. DT is a great suggestion! .. and there might be other great sources. :-)
All this time I thought that direct sunlight is good for my peppers. At least that's what the seed package says. So, I put down the and went outside. Just to find out the enemy ( wild rabbits ) are planning on a attack. Once again you helped me back on my gardening toes !!!! No matter what start at sunrise. THANKS
My favorite channel. - what i look for is someone that is gardening at least as well as i do. And you have fun and informative vids. Hope you are doing better, you seem in good spirits. - blessings your way..
Your videos are always very informative. I was hoping that maybe you could do a video (come fall of course) that's a little more in depth about wintering your pepper plants?
Most definitely!
I love bell peppers and have been growing them for years. However, I was always disappointed in the number of peppers per plant. One week ago, I pinched the tops off and they are already leafing out at the "armpits!" I am so excited to see if this works. Thank you!
One of my bell peppers has 8 flowers coming out but it's kinda short and spindly like these ones. I'm wondering if I should gamble these 8 flowers away or not
@@MegaJellyNelly Yes, I had a handful of flower buds and hesitated a bit about pinching the top off. But the plant has grown so much in the last 2 weeks I'm hopeful it will make a difference.
One of the best gardening videos I've seen so far! Thanks for being so detailed in your video. Its a big help for new gardeners like myself.
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS OF MY LIFE? I’ve learn so much in the past few hours than I’ve learned in the past 3yrs. I’m so happy that I’ve found you and is so excited for this growing season . Love from CT ❤
Welcome!
I love that my chickens like to eat the bugs! I wear garden gloves, pick the bugs off my plants and they make a great treat for the chickens! Thanks for the hint on the peppers! I would like to know more about using shade cloth (beetles killed my Pines that were the garden's shade).
It is, this morning I was out tending to my garden and I let my chickens in to do just that, I keep a very close eye on them just to make sure they don't nibble on the actual plants lol, I give them about half hour and then escort them back out of the enclosed area of my garden.
gato felix that is so cool 😎
I live in an apartment. I wonder if management would fall for emotional support chicken.
@@felix64able this is what I do. Mine don’t even touch the plants anymore they’ve been doing it so long. They will all march to the garden in a little line and go on a bug seek and destroy mission for most of the afternoon. Love it!!
I get so much good, usable growing info from your channel. Thank you! Love the organization (topics indexed) and the humor throughout the video. I admit I am having a hard time accepting I will have to cut the tops off of plants for 3-4x more fruit but will try it this year! I either have fantastic luck and my pepper plants are super abundant, or I get 2-4 peppers only per plant. Not sure what I was doing differently but this video gave me some good insight on what I can try.
I had a hard time pruning back my peppers also, but in just a few days the plants went from "leggy" to sprouting more new growth emanating from the middle of the plant. This produced a more bushy and productive plant.
I always stick a chop stick right next to the stem of both my tomatoes and peppers when I first plant them so that cut worms can’t squeeze the stem off to kill the plant. Cardboard collars or toilet paper tubes also are effective but a little more work.
Good stuff. Gonna be starting seeds indoors the end of February here in northeast Illinois. Appreciate the tip on germinating seeds on a wet paper towel. Should speed things up a bit. Can't wait!
Thank you for the very informative video as always!
I learned the other day that lime helps the plant take in the calcium if its available. I'm going to try it this year with my tomatoes and peppers.
This year as an experiment I planted some seeds (from peppers I harvested in my garden) onto a corner in my yard and in my garden bed. Surprisingly the ones in my yard seem to have all sprouted opposed to none in the garden bed (they could always take longer but it’s been like 12 days). Anyways it’ll be interesting to see how the pepper plants grow opposed to the garden beds.
Edit: they’ve come out in the garden bed but germination for some reason is slower, probably because the soil is less compact.
Michael H. I'm wondering about this myself. I took seeds out of a pepper I ate, and planted them, in a cup, inside the house right now. I live in Massachusetts. I wonder if they will grow. They should, right ? It's been only a few days, so I'll know in about 2 weeks ?
Michael Best they should. I ordered carry out and took the appetizer tomato and squeezed it’s contents into my raised garden bed. I didn’t think anything would happen but to my surprise a bunch of seedlings came out. I live in Florida so it’s much hotter though. I think you should have success with peppers because I personally haven’t had much luck with tomatoes.
Michael Best wait, very importantly, what color was the pepper? If it was green I wouldn’t be hopeful.
@@Michael-zn2jc The pepper was yellow. Thanks for your view!
Thanks a lot.
I just learned that my bean plants and lettuce have leaf miners.
You are entertaining as well as informative, nice tutorial.
I have learned so much from you. God bless you❤
Can you do the same with the bell pepper plants. Can you prune and bring in for next year. I've never had luck before in getting the seed started. Now I know why. Thanks so much. You have been a blessing getting things started during these times.
Thank you. Yes you can!
I loved the short version of accumulating as I’m a 12 h shift worker and saves me a lot of time . Thank you so much for your straightforward videos ! I’m new to your channel so I’m binge watching before time to start my seeds .
Thank you...and welcome! 🙂
Thanks, I planted today my peppers green and yellow in containers so excited 😁 first time 💛
Awesome video! I learned a lot and will be implementing your suggestions on my peppers. I'm so excited to get them in the the pots. I'm in northern Canada so short growing season but we still get good harvests so I hope this year trying the bell peppers in pots will be fruitful! Thanks again!
Thank you for your willingness to share your experience and knowledge with the rest of the worlds gardeners. I appreciate you. I started my seeds indoors but when I hardened them off and got them outside we had about 2 possibly 3 frosts. They look weaker but they dont look dead which suprised me. Their growth has severely stunted though. Do you have any tips or tricks for this situation?
Thank you!! Baby them along. But if you can... start some new ones as backup.
Amazing advice!! I did learn that peppers were perennials but wasn't aware of how to "winterize" them. Thank you so much!!
Your comedy made me subscribe🤣🤣very informative too of course! Lol I do love your step by step at the bottom of the screen too! Wish more ppl organized their videos this way! Great video!
Welcome!
I’m growing around 50 chili plants this year.
My heat mat has a thermostat so when planting the seeds in my indoor sprouting area (my garage) I set it at 75. Seems to work well.
Hahaha 😆! Love ur sense of humor 🤣!! Great information on the pepper plants!!
Sometimes leaving RUclips on for hours, a new channel is discovered! I’m picky about gardening and I like Charles Dowding, Roots and refuge, and now your channel. I’m impressed and pleased with all the practical tips....I’m in Sonoma county, so it’s good to find programs for our (state). I’m in suburbia and have a fair amount of yard; the house came with 5 marginal raised beds, I have done a modified Ruth Stout method everywhere else. This is 3rd year and the garden is a thing of beauty. I’m also a fan of edible landscaping, which amuses the neighbors...
I’m working my way thru all your videos. Ty for making my day, and this season.
Leslie
Welcome! Glad to have you!
Whats a "smokey" pepper?
This video is such a great wealth of information and guidance, I so appreciate this as I’m a novice gardener and just started growing bell peppers (we call capsicums here) - your previous video on seed starting via “paper towel germination” was really good and really confirmed what I did was the right thing- I started my seeds that way (after watching some other video and was before I discovered your channel) after the seeds failed to germinate for almost 2 months, I almost gave up and thought there was something wrong with my seeds or me!!! 🙊😜 I am encouraged to know that peppers are perennials (yayyy!!). I have some questions if I may: Can you advise if you think I can overwinter my peppers outdoors? It would be awesome if I could as I don’t have any space indoors to overwinter them. I live in Australia and zone 10b-11a and the lowest temp is 1-2degC and we don’t get frost here. Secondly, I only just watched your video and didn’t do the ‘rock phosphate fertilisation’ method and my plants are already transplanted into troughs and pots so that’s too late, I only have the general Seasol or seaweed, and Osmocote all purpose pellet fertiliser. Should I go out and get the Neptune fertiliser? I did notice it’s taking a while to fruit. It’s summer here. Appreciate the advice, thanks! 🙏
I would use organic fertilizer. It doesn't have to be NH if you guys don't have that there. And absolutely you can overwinter them. In your climate you could probably leave them in place.
@@NextLevelGardening Yes all the seaweed fertiliser I mentioned is organic. That is awesome and thanks so much!! Just harvested my first cucumber today, SUPER happy!🙌🤩 May your garden continue to prosper and flourish abundantly too!! 🙏😍
This is very helpful. I'm in Australia too, not sure what zone though. I have some rose chilli seeds that I hope to sprout this year.
Are you in Victoria? I'm from Melbourne, do you know what zone that would be classed as? Or do you know of a resource that I can use to find that out? Thanks.
There was an interesting video done on pruning peppers where yes you get more peppers but they are smaller. Also depends on the variety you are growing.
I have never had much success with peppers. This year I am trying my hand at cal. Peppers and cubanelles. Ty for the tips. I have seedlings growing this season.
Thank-you for the pepper video! I have neem oil, but need to know if I mix it with water and if so, what's the ratio? My little bell pepper seeds took quickly this year and I had to give away some of my baby pepper plants to the neighbors! I wasn't expecting all of them to germinate.
Different bottles have different strengths so just follow the directions on the bottle and you should be fine
I can not believe I actually leaned in to hear your secret.
Lol. Awesome!
*HIGHLY* appreciate the time / topic bar!!!
#MVP 🏆
Giving you a HUGE "thumbs up" before even _watching_ the video...nothing like growing *peppers* ! And I can't get enough of _learning_ techniques about pepper-growing!!
Great video! Thank you so very much, I really appreciate the time and effort you put into making and posting these. I'm always learning something! I do have a question though, if I may ask on topping your pepper plant. What if you have peppers already forming and the plant is only say 2 feet tall, still short. Would you still top it, even the fruit that's forming? Thank you! 🌞
If it's 2' tall already and fruiting I would just leave it.
@@NextLevelGardening thank you! 👍

@@NextLevelGardening awesome. Thanks so much!!! P.s following closely when it comes to growing tomatoes. And so far, so good!
First like! :D Thank you for this, knowing I can keep my peppers from one year to another is AWESOME! Just a small question though: if there is only a smaaaall chance of frost can I keep my peppers outside if I protect them like I would my Mediterranean plants? Or is it not enough? Thank you again for you videos! You’re awesome! ;D
Just make sure they're covered. Mine are outside and we have may be 2 to 3 nights of frost per year and they do OK.
