How to Create, Number Equation in Word and Cross Refer Equation Number Only

- Create, number and cross reference equations with Microsoft Word. MS Word provides a shortcut way to number equation that updates automatically with just one click. You can also cross refer equation and that too updates automatically if equation number change.
In this video you will learn how to number equations in word, cross reference equation and shortcut for the same. When you cross refer equation like figures and tables, you get equation along with the number. To over come this, you need to put them in table.

Great video, thanks it helps a lot. I've also recently learned a trick: instead of putting the equation in a table with just 2 coloumns, put it in a table with 3 coloumns. First and 3rd coloumn should have the same size and are much smaller than the 2nd (center) coloumn. This will make your equation exactly centered in your page instead of slightly shifted from the center to the left.
Thanks for sharing your trick. You can create shortcut for table with 3 columns in a similar way.

Suppose if I insert a equation before 5 equations , then How can I update numbering of all equations after the first equation?. If I select on the second equation and update field then only second equation number is changing but not all the equation numbers. So, my question is how to update numbering of all equations if I put any new equation in between? Thank you in advance.

But the front of equation by default in , size 9 and colour, light black, italic.
How to make, the front size of equation is 11, colour -black and in Times New Roman.

Don't hold it all together, press it one after other in succession (no keys are pressed together).

Bro thanks for the help. By in my case the equations are not occuring in cross-reference list. I need to cross reference the equation but i cant .
I was able to cross refer after this step. May I know which version of word you are using.
I need to put the equation number in brackets when it is next to the equation but exclude the brackets from the cross-reference. How can I do this? When I do the cross-reference, it simply includes whatever text is before the number, in this case the open bracket. I can easily manually remove this each time, but then when I "update all fields" the open brackets come back! I therefore get sentences such as "...as shown in (4.1 and (4.2." Thanks!
As far as I know there is no way to do this except manually.

Are you talking about macro. The general method should work on all pages. If macro doesn't work, you may try recoeding again.

How to align large eq in word
When making a cross-reference it's automatic in italics but i don't want that. Is it possible to change that?
You can change it. You may change it to normal from italics and update the same in styles to which it belongs. (You may update other formatting too). When updated in styles the same setting is applicable for all cross-reference in the document.

Caption and number has to be together. And yes, if you caption number like figure (e.g. Equation 1: A Chemical reactor of water) then you will get it as you desired.

Cross reference is not working properly.
I got problem when insert equation between 2 equations.
Equation number is not updated automatically.

For me it worked nicely. To update it, you need to select cross reference, right click it and select update field. Please let me know if this didn't worked.
If you don't want to click on particular eqt just ctrl+A and F9

Please check 1:51 second of the video which shows how you can center equation on line and add cross reference at the end. Hope this is what you are asking. Please feel free to reply if this doesn't answer your question.

and now, i don t have the crack version of Mathtype, just using the simple version one. so can t not edit equations from mathtype
I am using equation editor which comes free with Ms Word. I don't have any experience with Math type. If you can cut and paste math type then method shown in video is applicable other than that I am really sorry I cannot help you much.

How to type factorial sign in ms word using keyboard shortcuts.
When I gave caption, the whole equation and also every word in the sentence gets updated to caption font. I have a gray, italic, smaller font size for caption for figures.. All the equations, equation numbers are also same now.. It got much worse!!

After writing the equation entirely, press enter then go to insert caption. Now only the caption has the caption font. Next, create the table and by highlighting, dragging and dropping, move the equation into one cell and the caption into the other cell. That worked for me.

Change the settings in the header of the caption. This will solve and prevent that problem.

How to put the number in bracket? E.g. (1.1)
Same method can be used for putting equation in bracket. Simply use put equation caption inside brackets and create shortcut for that.
