I was 16 years old and living on Boundary Street when I witnessed the last moments of Flight 182. This year will Mark the 41st anniversary of this tragedy that forever haunts me. As I am the kind of person who can find a positive aspect somehow to fucking anything, I like to think this gave me the ability to accomplish things in the field of health-care that others wouldn't have been able to stomach. At least that's what I tell myself 41 years later still trying to make some sense of this.

There could be a memorial park built somewhere in or near the crash site. That’s what was done to honor the victims of American Airlines Flight #191 which occurred exactly eight months later outside Chicago. The memorial contains the names of all the victims on board the plane and those on the ground. It could not be built at the crash site so it was constructed about a mile and a half near. It is a beautiful memorial.

I drove from Santa Cruz and was visiting a friend. Their home was 1/2 mile, near the end of Vancouver. His boss, the service writer? for Ferrari-Porsche, lost his wife and child. The plane landed on their car. I stood at the corner of Dwight and Nile less than an hour after the crash. The 3rd or 4th home on Nile had a V in the roof, 12" or so deep, the V went into the lawn and the sidewalk was tilted. This is where the wing touched. Unlike at The WTC, the wing snapped off. (the wings Tips, even the Tail, sheared right thru the load bearing beams of The WTC.....) The plane landed more or less at the intersection. An engine was near by. I recall the tail snapped off and was in a tree?. (The tail of the WTC plane sheared right thru the load bearing beams......). The house across the street, had a 70 year old guy sitting in a rocking chair. Plane went by him, ...imagine. No Asphalt was damaged, and to this day I don't think the street has been repaved. (We all know what happened at the WTC). PSA 182 shredded but left the asphalt usable. There were many thousands of people at the site. And there was computer paper all over the area.

This tragedy was a stark reminder of how short life can be, to seek the LORD early as no one of us is guaranteed tomorrow !
Moments after the crash that hot Fall day, I saw the huge plume of jet black smoke ascending in North Park, from our CHS Campus in El Cajon.
I begged our teacher to turn on the TV to learn what it was.
Needless to say, the entire 45min period was consumed in watching images of this unfolding tragedy.
Our teacher led us in praying for the victims.
Later I would learn it crashed less than a mile from our duplex near Adams Ave.
RIP, in Jesus name, to those who perished !

Uh, anyone there had the absolute right to come and "gawk" at anything they damn well pleased -- it's not a crime. I hope any who were arrested for coming to witness the damage to their neighborhood, community, or city sued for false arrest.

I would think it's up to the people who live in the neighborhood if there should be a memorial or not. All others who think it's a good idea will see it built and forget about it. The people who live there will see it every day. Let them decide...not random people online who think "something should be done".

Don’t care about the lame bureaucratic reasons for not doing so, put a Memorial in that neighborhood.
Side note. The report by Ms. Clark was subject centered to the event. No “lessons” given in the story. No references to other “issues” that permeate current 2021 style of reporting, with agendas.
This was a terrible tragedy caused by a confluence of very unfortunate circumstances.

At the time, September 15?, 1978 I was a second year student at the University of Cincinnati, In A.F.R.O.T.C. many cadets were talking about it : One particularly said "It's the WORST Disaster in Aviation History: He was RANDY STEIGER. Mentioning Him here is a Fresh Breeze for having had my Nose in my Latin Three textbook, all afternoon, concentrating on Marcus Tullius Cicero's PRO MANILIO: The Commission on POMPEY The GREAT! Plus, Everitt's Biography on CICERO! And this is only a few Days after EASTER SUNDAY! Did not ROD STEIGER play PONTIUS PILATE, in the 70s movie, suddenly seriously replying to JESUS "Do not I have power to Crucify Thee?" Well, the way this Nation of Ours is going all the years since then......! MEUM SECRETUM In Toto! But there is a powerful Ray of Hope, anagrammed from the Inscription, necessarily kept secret and privately confidential...! AS JESUS rose again, so Our Ship of State as well, in due time, from all its passed-away tragedies
