DROP x Sennheiser HD58X Headphone Review If you’re someone who wants to spend no more than about $150 on a pair of headphones, then this little gem that is the HD58X gets my highest personal recommendation. Created in collaboration between DROP.com and Sennheiser, the HD58X offers a huge amount of bang-for-buck value.
I have these, and they're absolutely amazing value and so much fun listening to music... you'll need to spend close to a 1000 dollars to get substantially better audio quality.

You already clearly stated this, but when seeing how those 58x survived the journey is mind blowing to me. I expected to see them in pieces, or at least cracked and fractured everywhere. Solid review. I have a pair of HD 58x, the sound tuning is my favorite. Must acquire a set of HD 650, since I prefer the better materials and finishing just because. Thank you.
Mine survived the shipping from the USA to Melbourne Australia, perfect condition, no damage to packaging, super experience buying from Drop, love the 580x headphones.......
great review, that just appeared at the top of my feed. i recently bought the HD58x and have been a biiiiit worried i might be missing out on what people describe as the "better" HD6xx, but i've been thoroughly happy with everything im throwing at it. no regrets! oh and a few years ago, i managed to snag a B-stock Custom Studio from beyer germany before it disappeared off storefronts, and it arrived to me the same way with a wet box that had no integrity, yet everything was ok with it. i'm guessing this negligence is from germany because i too live in the middle east and am constantly worried about the state my items would arrive in.
Do the HD-58X look as nice as the HD-660s no but they share the exact same structural parts they did not retool for these they just used off the shelf components that are the same from the 580 to the 660s. I am not surprised that they survived because I have all the 6 series including the 580 which was purchased in the early 90s so they might not appear to be rugged but after the apocalypse there will be cockroaches and Sennheiser's

58x is a good basic audiophile headphones. Mid and sub bass are the strength For some reason, it works better with MTK based phone and tablets (louder and better sound) than Snapdragon platform (there's a USB-C headphones adapter for that)
I imagine how these are for games...I currently have the HD560s and a Tygr300r. Neither make me want to stop and get "WOWed" with the sound(currently pairing with a Fiio K7). I want something smoother and more lux... Really liked the AKG K702, but it had like 0 bass lol. I was looking at the K612, but the 58x is looking so attractive..
Having owned 600 650 6xx and 58x, I prefer the 58x almost every time. The others sound just too sterile for me. Except for vocal jazz on the 600 which is fantastic and unmatched by anything else I tried so far, I always go back to the 58x!
I honestly don’t see what all the hype is about. I just got mine a few days ago & they sound okay,. Nothing amazing or stellar about these headphones. I know they’re completely different headphones but my 1990 Pro’s are much funner to listen to, give me the spatial element I like & honestly I don’t think I lose much in vocal presence that the Sennheisers are so reknowned for. But for such a cheap price I’ll just hang onto them. Had they cost $300 or up they would definitely already be on eBay for sure
I mean for a $130 pair of headphones they’re pretty decent. Not $500 1990’s pro levels though I must be an audio snob too because the HD58x’s don’t really impress me. They are nice but without an amp or dac they just seem ok.
I have the Audio- Technica M 40X & Audioquest Dragonfly Red Dac. Bud order this one (it's on is way from the States (i'm from Belgium Antwerp) Is this gonna be a Eargasme??
Massdrop needs to make a successor, with less peaks and valleys in the treble. Then we could get a perfect headphone. 660s is just a bit too muddy, 58x is more clear.
Any more information on this subject? Sennheiser introduced changes in its line up (HD599, HD660, HD4.5) a couple of years ago, and they tend to stick with it for a long, long time. Unless they are introducing new wireless phones, with updated codecs, I don't see it happening.
KPH30i have no equal at that price range. I have found that imaging for the 58x is really good. As far as sound, I switched to the Dekoni Elite Hybrid Pads and it brought out the base just enough and helped soften the highs, which made them much more immersive in shooter games.

I plan to use them for competitive gaming, I currently have a closed Takstar Pro 82 but after trying out kph30i's open design, I really like the airy feel while on discord compared to a closed claustrophobic sound/speaking experience.
@@agoogleuser9025 They definitely don't feel like a closed back to me, the foam in the ear cups is easy to remove if you want a true open back sound. I currently play Doom Eternal, Modern Warefare, Squad, Halo MCC, and Destiny 2 as far as shooters are concerned. I also have a pair of HD599s and the imaging on the HD58x is slightly better.

Its not as strong with stock pads, but I switched to the Elite Hybrid pads by Dekoni and it brought out the base enough for my liking. I listen to mostly Hans Zimmer Soundtracks, Metal, and electronic.
You can't compare headphones like that .. Unless both of them are BRAND NEW and have not been worn in, it's going to make a huge differene in terms of the sound. I sold my hd58x after a week .. It's not that I didn't enjoy them, because I really did! I decided to buy the hd660s instead, after reading a lot of varius reviews and forums about them. I don't really regret doing so, because I find the hd660s a lot better for my overall purpose and daily use (which is gaming). The soundstage is noticeably better on the hd660s compared to the hd58x .. This goes for pretty much every aspect of sound, with the exception of the sub-bass. I'll admit that the hd58x does have a really nice sub-bass where the hd660s is more precise - If it wasn't for the purpose of gaming I would most likely have kept the hd58x over the hd660s as well. I'm still waiting on the dac/amp I've ordered along with the balanced cable from drop.com. So when it finally arrives here, I will test it out and see if I can make the hd660s sound even better.

Nope. Take them apart. Different driver, they have a different weight. By 4 grams.
The hd660s have better earpads /headban compared to the hd58x (at least imo).

1990 pros are $500 bucks... Compared that to the Sennheiser 800s and you'll be blown away.
