Also a HD58X owner, and I have to say it was one of my best audio-related purchases. I don't think you can do better under $500. The only thing it doesn't do is sub-bass under 30 Hz, nor does pretty much any open-back Sennheiser. But it does plenty enough to really enjoy even bass featured music.

Thanks for this video. I was looking and reading all kinds of articles and videos. You are the first to say what I’ve been waiting to hear, if you haven’t tried open back you have to. So based on that and your Philips H2 video, I just got those in the mail and they are incredible. I may stop chasing the dragon on headphones for a bit now. Anyone not sure if they should try open back, my answer is yes. I’m sold. Sometimes I sometimes feel like the audio channels don’t love music as much as the tech, you come across as the music is still the main point not the tech.
As a 58x owner myself I agree. I run mine with a new "old school" vacuum tube amp and dac. I'd like to see a video about dac and amps...comparing the sound out of tube amps and digital amps and acrosse open and closed back design.

I've basically been using 20$ skullcandy earbuds or earpods in the past. - I'll be using them for gaming, listening to music and music production (Hip-Hop, Trap) (I'm not too serious about the music production but planning on working on it more) - Unfortunately, I currently don't have an amp. - I have a mechanical keyboard with cherry MX Brown switches so don't know if that'll bother me with open back headphones. - I'll be getting both for pretty much the same price ~150 USD - I'm based in Toronto, Canada. So any other recommendations at that price range are also welcome. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You!

HD 58x vs Fidelio x2hr. I lean towards philips having tried shp 9500 and loved them, however a little lacking in bass for my taste and although extremely comfortable, a little loose for my head. I hear x2hr are kinda the big brother to the 9500s and provide a little more bass, seem they would fit a better, and have wider Soundstage.

There's reviews and ratings giving certain headsets really good imaging and quality, however they are still closed back. Is it really worth exploring open back for better competitive edge and immersion compared to just waiting for technology to get in tuned and similar to open back audio quality? Also would like a comparison example of what a quality open back compares to a quality closed back. Thank you!
Hey man, new sub love the vids so far, would you be up to doing a vid on types of microphones or set ups to use with open back headphones ? (stand mics, boom mics, ect)
I’ve been using the Sennheiser Game headsets for years now, first the Zeros then the Ones, before that I used the predecessor to the Zeros. Now I really want to try the HD 58X. Looks like I’ll have to wait for that next review of the Massdrop version of the Zeros to ask you if it’s worth the upgrade.
Would you consider doing a review on the Philips SHP9500 you can get them for half the price of the 58x but I've listened to both and honestly prefer the Philips.
I'm between buying the Arctis Pro Wireless and the Beyerdynamic dt990 pros with the modmic 5 and FiiO E10k DAC. I am having a tough time deciding, as I have not had the privilege to try either of these cans. I know most people say that studio headphones are the way to go, but convenience is insane with the Arctis Pro Wireless. What do you think my best option would be considering I would be using them primarily for games like Fortnite where directional audio is very important?
Hi, I'm coming from a (closed back) Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 and am looking for a good pair of (COD) gaming and music headphones. Does this fit the bill? Interested in it's open back design, but also confused if I should just get the Beyerdynamic MMX 300.
Excellent video as always Brian. Good info and great way of pointing the pros and cons of both sides of the argument. That said, is the discord link down for anyone else?
Sick video, I'm trying to learn more about headphones because I love peripherals :D. This video helped comprehend closed vs back. So basically closed back is better for casual and things with bass but open is a little better for competitive since you can hear sound cues a better? I'm interested in open back since I am more into competitive games, I think going to get senheisser game ones since they are on sale and I've heard they are good.
been wanting these for quite some time now. can you recommend a mic I can use while playing games with friends? I looked into hyperx's new quadcast mic. its very appealing but the blue yeti is usually what I see most people rock
If I was looking to pick up a Creative G6, the DT 990 or the 58x? Something else? Music and gaming. Every time I think I have figured it out I'm unsure again lol.
Having watched only 2 videos of yours, you have my my favourite YT tech reviewer..... Have you tried the new sennheiser hd 560s? Please make a video on their comparison.
George Fakis I bought those initially since I heard great things about them and loved them, but the one thing that killed me was that they felt like I had a brick on my head. For whatever reason they felt so uncomfortable and gave me headaches. Coincidentally I bought some HD58Xs and it’s MAGICAL. Sound quality is as good if not better than the Alphas with the added benefit of being so light. If you ever decide to replace, upgrade, or just try another headset, definitely consider the Sennheisers. There is definitely no sacrifice when it comes to the bass you mention. It’s equal or better than the Alphas in my opinion and such a good purchase overall.
@@0xmehtevasx0 I was planning for the dt990 from beyerdynamic but they turned out to be very expensive, anyways thank you I bought them because I'm building my first gaming rig with an i5 9600k and an rtx 2070. Yes I know but I really dont want to wait for ryzen 3000 and even worse I'm living in Greece . Prices tend to be very high at the start and gradually fall down after like 2 to 3 months
love the video, im actually planning to buying the hd58x, my question is (since im gonna use it mainly for games) will i need an amp/dac for this headset? you said that the only difference is just volume, is it the same in games as well? thanks..
im looking to start on open back, so im going to start with the superlux hd688b (semi open), theen look for something on the higher end after i see how i feel, and this vid has helped with that choice, thx.
Caught this late, great review. If you don't care about competitive gaming, only want soundstage for single player like cyber punk go with the dt990 instead?
went for a new headset some 10 months ago, got sick of most of the gaming ones Drop was still unavailable in Europe so i had to find an alternative to the 7xx/712pro, went for some low impedance (32ohm) openback audio cans, wood/steel, with a basic DAC, didn't regret my choice a single day (gaming 1-2hrs/day plus about an hour of music)
BadSeed Tech How do you think the HD58X does compare to the Sennheiser HD 598SR? I bought the latter ones about 5 months ago and they are great...Ever since the Superlux 668B (they cut off the bloodstream to my brain though! After an hour of gaming I felt like I did a headstand with all the bloodflow coming back XD) I will never go back from open back for PC gaming / listening to music at home (only if I need a lot of bass my speakers get used)
Hi man, i just bought the DT770 80ohm , which amp do you recommend to get the best power from them in Music and gaming? im thinking about the EVGA NU audio maby? or your trusty mayflower arc .somthing in that ballpark, dont know what els there is in that prise range:P. Thanks for the good videos.:)

Solid, relatable explanation. Will definitely look into this. Thanks so much.
Would you consider doing a review on the Philips SHP9500 you can get them for half the price of the 58x but I've listened to both and honestly prefer the Philips.
Sure thing. Its linked in the description of this video.
Which one would you recommend: Dt990 pro 80ohm or hd58x Jubilee?
thats also what I'm trying to decide except 250 ohm instead of 80
try the NDH20 they are closed but sound like the hd660s but with cleaner bass and a little more treble. sound stage and imaging is also a lot better
I will put them on the list for sure. Somebody just mentioned them to me yesterday actually.
@@badseedtech yea they are new. Compared to my dt1990, hd660s and m1060 I like the ndh20 better even tho they are closed
Rocking with the Astro A10s right now, thanks for the video for some knowledge that’ll help my next purchase 👌
Dope shirt, sick content with comparison
Thanks... And yeah dude, Jad's clothes are awesome. Really glad I found him.
Great video! Definitely picking up some open back headphone now 👌🏼
Hi, I'm coming from a (closed back) Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 and am looking for a good pair of (COD) gaming and music headphones.
Quadcast seems good. There's some great reviews out there but HyperX never sends me anything I ask for lol. I use a ModMic5 and its insanely good.
If I was looking to pick up a Creative G6, the DT 990 or the 58x? Something else? Music and gaming. Every time I think I have figured it out I'm unsure again lol.
BadAss Beard practically asmr voice amazing high quality content Everything Checks Out
Love your vids man
I prefer open back but it depends on your individual situation. Awesome video!
Having watched only 2 videos of yours, you have my my favourite YT tech reviewer.....
Have you tried the new sennheiser hd 560s? Please make a video on their comparison.
Got the hyperx cloud alpha today. Couldn't be happier with my decision. Edit, closed back headsets offer better bass experience
@@0xmehtevasx0 they sit pretty comfy on my head, that cushion on the headband seems to eliminate the headset's weigh
George Fakis You’re a lucky man lol enjoy them though they’re great
@@0xmehtevasx0 I was planning for the dt990 from beyerdynamic but they turned out to be very expensive, anyways thank you I bought them because I'm building my first gaming rig with an i5 9600k and an rtx 2070. Yes I know but I really dont want to wait for ryzen 3000 and even worse I'm living in Greece . Prices tend to be very high at the start and gradually fall down after like 2 to 3 months
love the video, im actually planning to buying the hd58x, my question is (since im gonna use it mainly for games) will i need an amp/dac for this headset?
you said that the only difference is just volume, is it the same in games as well?
thanks..
Nope...not necessary. With some headphones, you need the extra power to "wake up" the dynamics. Not the case here... you'll just get more volume.
im looking to start on open back, so im going to start with the superlux hd688b (semi open), theen look for something on the higher end after i see how i feel, and this vid has helped with that choice, thx.
Caught this late, great review. If you don't care about competitive gaming, only want soundstage for single player like cyber punk go with the dt990 instead?
My favorite YT guy! Amen. Even if not interested in product, need to watch :) Keep it up Brian
Thanks brother 👊
went for a new headset some 10 months ago, got sick of most of the gaming ones
Drop was still unavailable in Europe so i had to find an alternative to the 7xx/712pro, went for some low impedance (32ohm) openback audio cans, wood/steel, with a basic DAC, didn't regret my choice a single day (gaming 1-2hrs/day plus about an hour of music)
Can't wait for the PC 37X video!
Good evening, sir! If you review this post wondering if I should get 58X or K7XX?! Strictly for gaming!
BadSeed Tech
How do you think the HD58X does compare to the Sennheiser HD 598SR? I bought the latter ones about 5 months ago and they are great...Ever since the Superlux 668B (they cut off the bloodstream to my brain though! After an hour of gaming I felt like I did a headstand with all the bloodflow coming back XD) I will never go back from open back for PC gaming / listening to music at home (only if I need a lot of bass my speakers get used)
El Jefe sent me, nice work dude!! 👍
Thanks Dave! Jefe is an awesome guy! 👊
