Yes I think McLaren are going to leapfrog Ferrari & Mercedes in the first half of the season, do I think they can beat Red Bull? If it's a Red Bull driven by Checo, yes! And a Red Bull driven by Max? I reckon they might have a classic mid/late 2010s RB season, starting off a bit adrift of Red Bull/Max but slowly closing in on pace. Hard to say anything before testing and stuff but McLaren had done some little things (big ones too)at the and of the last season that indicated too me, that they mean it and know what they're doing. Little details that show, that there is a progress in the works. I hope I'm right, would be fun to see McLaren back on top, fighting it out.
But I also have a feeling that Ferrari will surprise us, either with an utter box of sh*t, struggling for points or with a beautiful machine, a gift, Enzo has send us from the heavens to make Charles Leclerc forever known as Charles LeMagne.
Also maybe Merc remembered how to build a car. It's foolish to think that they won't, at least until proven otherwise. It's not very likely, that they will be right on top, but they are Merc. Do not underestimate Merc until you hear Lewis complain that the car is crap.
'All in all I am really looking forward for the race to fill up the steps next to Max. And there is always the chance, that RB kinda topped out the concept and have a weaker or let's say "less dominant" season, to come back in 2025 and show us how open 2023 was. (Like Ferrari did, 2001 and 2003 where kinda open but 2002 and 2004.. not so much) I still think RB will get the title, but with less ease.

Ferrari and Mercedes have a better chance that McLaren, since they can build their car and engine / transmission for their particular concept whereas McLaren cannot. Remember McLaren could just about keep up with Ferrari and Mercedes when they both had seriously flawed cars last season

But you're forgetting one big fact and that is that Ferrari and Mercedes are going to change the concept (almost) entirely. Whilst McLaren are keeping the current wich worked in the second half of the season. So McLaren are a few steps further than Mercedes and Ferrari in terms of development. And having you're own engine doesn't mean you're faster than you're customers. Look for example at Aston Martin last season.

Which if true, keyword if, may require McLaren (and Williams and Aston) to change their designs to fit the new shape.

@@sthijs0Exactly. Ferrari where the only team to match the Redbull on raw pace in qualifying while having an inferior concept. McLaren were the duckling to Redbull's swan and where still getting out performed by Ferrari in qualifying and races.

McLaren's updated car was also not the most optimised. They said they still need to change 70% of it in order to make it driveable. It was a difficult car being very edgy and so did the other 2 teams. It wasn't a rocketship. Difference is McLaren were yet to unlock their current car's full potential and Ferrari and Mercedes had the wrong concept altogether.

me, who have been following Formula 1 sense the mid 1990is, i had a few fav team´s. but Ferrari or Merc never been any of them. them always been the ones i "hated". RedBull have been one of the team´s i have been cheering for. and for me, its "my time" to have "my" team to steam roll for a few years!! just like Ferrari did and Merc did. i dont want any other team being close to to winning now! it was a pain then Ferrari did it for 5-6 years and it was a super pain then Merc did it for 7 years.. now i want RB to do steam roll for 10 years so i can get back all the years i lost then Ferrari and Merc was winning.
But will McLaren beat Red Bull? they might beat RB then it comes to the car, but as long Max have fun, no Max will take RB to victory. but with that said, McLaren surely will have a good car but the drivers i dont think are there yet. they are not Max material as long Max is giving it all. and not giving anything away.

f1 is cyclical , hate is not a good word , Ferrari did an awesome in 2000s just like Mercedes did in 2014 to 2020 , Mclaren could be a challenger but the fact they are a customer team could prevent their title fight.

If Lewis was in the other seat instead of Lando, yeah they surely could. Lando just fumbles it whenever he sees Max in his side mirrors and just yields as quickly as possible and this is coming from a Lando fan. I hope Lando figures it out because his potential is top tier.

You're really a lando fan? You've seen 2021 where he cooked against max, Hamilton and perez all the time? And this last half of the season he had more or less only max to fight with but the gap was too big. You really think something would have happened if he fought for 4 laps instead of 3 against Max in COTA or that clinging longer onto max in Sao Paulo would have caused something? He extracted the maximum.

I love how overhyped McLaren is . The new car they put out at the start of 2023 was a frankenstein car of 2022 because they couldny get things done in time . Whereas Ferrari and Merc got it not bang on but okaish from race 1 onwards . This is not a strength but rather a weakness . Towards the end of the season they were not as fast as Ferrari . I am an Oscar Piastri fan , but McLaren is very very overhyped . ThEy WiLl FiGhT fOr P2 , yea let's see about that .
