      No company would compete by making a proprietary product for gaming anymore, it started with Nintendo, Sega and Playstation, then Xbox, and never more, because then it wouldn't succeed by the limitations, and no one would count on a company when their product is running closed-sourced software when they're new in the console market nowadays. Valve made a great move with SteamOS 3.0, making it for everyone and not limiting by just giving a few aspects of it and actually supporting Windows 10.
      Companies like Nintendo is always gonna go closed-source since they're a long time game-only company and trusted anyway, who'd want to give your software when you could make more money by limiting it and making game exclusives.

All the emulation I've been wanting plus my steam library, Xcloud streaming as well and even Moonlight streaming from my beefy PC, the future looks bright for handheld gaming. Great first video!

    The FSR in the Overlay is only for the system wide FSR and that only applies if you set the render resolution of the whole game lower than 720p. So it basically is off the whole time and even wasn't running for your Elden Ring testing. 😅

      At least for Elden Ring. In God of War he used the games FSR implementation tho which if available is always favorable because it keeps the UI at it's native resolution and only renders the world in lower resolutions and upscales them. The System wide FSR you can do with the Steam Deck also upscales UI Elements which is not always desirable but is a fair tradeoff imo for games that don't have integrated FSR but could profit from the performance boost it offers.

    I'm only commenting this as a Linux gamer, not as someone who has a steam deck, but if you want to enable FSR at a system level (basically to the point where mango HUD would show FSR enabled), you need to have the game set to a resolution that is lower than native.
    Of course FSR needs to be enabled in the system settings when you are doing that. If a game does not support a lower than native resolution, you can force a lower resolution by going into the advanced option for the game and adding some commands. The commands can be found on the official gamescope GitHub repository.
    If you enable FSR through in-game settings, it will activate but it won't show on Mango HUD. In-game FSR generally should be better but the phawx did a video explaining the differences. Limiting FPS through steam settings, that is through game scope, generally seems to be working better than limiting in-game. Having the system level FSR controls is a great boon especially for games where native FSR is not available.

      @lpnp9477 2 года назад

      I would love to get a tutorial on custom resolutions. Many games on Steam support 720p as the lowest widescreen setting. Below that you will likely only find 4:3 settings. Maybe 540p if you're lucky. I'd like to see a widescreen 480p setting in all Steam games. That would make FSR shine!

Not only older emulation, but even more current emulation. When it comes to the order stuff it is already known that it can do that with ease. More modern stuff, like Yuzu, is where performance is more questionable and less known since the Steam Deck only just came out. A lot of people want to know how it runs Yuzu. The reason for this is because Nintendo did everyone dirty and never came out with a newer Switch model with more powerful hardware. So there are a lot of people interested in the Steam Deck wondering if it could act like an unofficial Switch Pro that offers even better performance than the actual switch. I'm not saying that *is* the case. I'm saying that is a question that a lot of people would like to know.
      I would like to know this as well as I am curious. My Steam Deck reservation time has changed 3 times now. It originally said later end of 1st quarter 2022. • @bipbop3121
      @bipbop3121 2 года назад

      There are some comparisons out there, LTT, Phawx, though not complete. If they don't have RDNA 2 & 16 GB DDR5, well they're behind the Steam Deck. If Steam Deck isn't in your region, you want windows, will install larger m.2 storage, 1080p screen, etc, those are where the other handheld pcs differentiate.

    • @Dan_Lynch
      @Dan_Lynch 2 года назад

      @@bipbop3121 Wrong. the 1195/65 has yet to be compared by anyone so far. Nonsense typing on your behalf life "16gb ddr5 and RDNA 2" mean literally nothing.

    • @bipbop3121
      @bipbop3121 2 года назад

      @@Dan_Lynch my point was, in spite of of those things Steam Deck has as "better" (that you call nonsense), one can get a better laptop for the same money for productivity or gaming purposes. And you're at least adding a budget for a hub & keyboard to this $399.99 for the comparison. Dock, mouse, SD cards, as the budget climbs to try and make it compete with the laptop, the laptop just gets better.
      16 GB RAM is far from nonsense, when you need or are just impatient. 4, 8 GB single stick RAM in the under $400 price point. If you don't know what difference that has made over the decades, then you simply need to get more informed, before continuing this discussion. I agreed with the person replying to me with that obvious statement. Apparently, that's not obvious to you, though.
      DDR5 is a mixed bag. APUs, which is in Steam Deck or an integrated graphics competitor, benefit the most from DDR5 RAM extra speed and channels. Software is still last gen, so in some cases, games run worse on DDR5 than DDR4. That's real data and comparisons that you can easily find yourself.
      There's already benches and other side by side comparing Steam Deck out there to other hardware, so I don't know why you you'd say it doesn't exist. One of them by ETA Prime no less, where the higher TDP Vega beat the Steam Deck.
      Since when is the generation of architecture of the graphics part of the APU, nonsense? There are both very quantitative claims that AMD makes about RDNA2 vs last gen Vega in terms of performance and efficiency & people already putting those claims to the test. RDNA2 is in PS5, Xbox & Steam Deck. Now they differ in how many RDNA2 CU (compute units) they have, speeds, TDP, etc. Of course Steam Deck doesn't pack the equivalent of PS5 Rtx 2060 super performance, just because of the RDNA2 architecture. I haven't read, heard anything contesting this gen vs last gen as nonsense, before you. The hardware is already out there and speaking for itself. For someone that finds more utility in the Steam Deck 15W TDP, than a better performance but higher TDP under $400 laptop, that RDNA2 makes a difference.
      There are definitely some under $400 laptops that look over priced next to the Steam Deck, even with their form factor or battery life advantages. But the people I was replying to, had to insist it was the best pc for all under $400. You really have to have gaming as your primary use or find it more portable, imo to prefer Steam Deck. Even strictly gaming, you can get a laptop with a better dgpu, than Steam Decks APU, in this price range. The Steam Deck's advantage is that additional portability. In my case, someone stealing a Steam Deck would be less of a loss than my phone or laptop. But a switch is even cheaper and more portable (but I already have an extensive gaming library I could leverage on SD). Not that it matters, because I am not buying either, though I'm glad they exist.

    -Desktop mode needs improvements when using it in handheld mode. The steam keyboard is unusable, and requiring steam to be open in order to use the built in mouse or keyboard isn’t not good enough.
    -I love emulating on this thing, but it would be really nice if they included a gui task manager that ran through steam. I find that sometimes dolphin doesn’t like to fully exit when prompted by the user.
    Otherwise, I love it. The experimental branch of proton lets me play Black Ops 3, and GTA 4 at 60fps.

    Yes, please do a full tutorial on how to set up the emulators. Also, you mentioned Blender...now that would be awesome to see. Keep up the great work. Thanks!

    I don't know if it has been said already or not, but yes, all units come with a carrying case. The top tier comes with an exclusive carrying case with a different interior material and logo, but they all come with the case. I don't know if that will change after all of the pre-orders finally get shipped out, but I would doubt that it would change. It is a very nice inclusion from Valve to have first party case right out of the box, and I suspect that they will keep that.

    Thanks for showing a Fighting game like MvC and SF in your reviews lol. Your camera is incredible to capture those shots when playing with no interlace I can see
