I never apply screen protector on my iPad, and the screen still doesn’t have single scratch after 5 years. Your device glass screen is tougher than you think, as long as you don’t bring keys or sharp metal objects near your devices.

I just ordered the usb c hub (HDMI Adapter), and everyone should know that it only gets minimal charge while it's connected. I was using it last night watching RUclips in Desktop mode and I got a notice that the battery was near dead. Which is majorly disappointing.
Love your videos! Short, sweet, geeky. I'd be interested to know if you even need the docking part from steam if you can just usb to hdmi it like this? Also, with desktop mode and a beefy gpu, what's it like for python programming/tensorflow applications?
Do you need the official dock: no, not really. Propping up the deck is kinda nice as is the displayport output but I think valve are mainly releasing one so compatibility is guaranteed.
I would be careful about the silicone cases. Silicone insulates extremely well, which is not good for thermals. I’ve seen people talking about thermal throttling on their steam decks after using a silicone case.
Okay, tell me if im wrong, If you still have both these cases, can you put them both on at the same time? ... They look like they would work better anything ive seen, but at the same time, with the plastic shell, on the inside.

I think i have the next model up from that mine has an extra usb and thing works amazing and can charge my deck too. But that keyboard I think is mechanical feel, membrane but for a keyboard for the steam deck its 100% good for the price.
I think that screen protector not covering the whole screen would drive me nuts. The product page says it's to 'keep it from lifting off phones while in your pocket' or something like that but clearly not going to be an issue with this. Found another one that appears to cover the whole thing based on description/pictures and going that route. Just my personal preference though, appreciate the video!
I really don't like how the steam deck setup is for hooking it up to a monitor. You first need a USB hub that also takes power in. Then you need a USB to hdmi and finally preferably get Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. If they just allowed a USB or hmdi mini or both, this would have made things so much easier! Is the steam dock gonna have an hdmi port?

I would agree I spent around 25£ last year on a type c hub and it's terrible it hasn't bricked my phone yet but it's so annoying particularly with my projector
@@ghostlegit PD standards can mess up devices
No. A USB hub bricking a PC? Excuse me while I disbelieve it.
@@Nickbaldeagle02 You can chose not to believe it but I'm not the only one having this issue. At least I was lucky and managed to fix it, other people had to send their Deck's back to Valve.
If you dont have the most expensive version deck I recommend you use a glare resistant screen cover.
Just bought the last keyboard with blue switches. Thank you for the keyboard recommendation
You can also get usb type c dongles with m.2 slots
Thanks alot for the tips!
Btw.. if your micro sd card is writing and unpacking super slow. You have to reformat your micro sd card in desktop mode following a guide and that should help (This is for A1 chips mostly but sometimes others my be like this.)
I just ordered the usb c hub (HDMI Adapter), and everyone should know that it only gets minimal charge while it's connected. I was using it last night watching RUclips in Desktop mode and I got a notice that the battery was near dead. Which is majorly disappointing.
I snagged a 1TB micro SD while it was on sale. I don't even have my Steam Deck yet. I'll pick up a screen protector though. Have one on my Switch.
For the crystal case buy a can of mat varnish, hit it all the day before you install it (from 12-18" away) and that should fix it
Can't believe you installed Edge on the Deck...
Love your videos! Short, sweet, geeky. I'd be interested to know if you even need the docking part from steam if you can just usb to hdmi it like this?
Also, with desktop mode and a beefy gpu, what's it like for python programming/tensorflow applications?
I’ll throw some tests in my next video
Do you need the official dock: no, not really. Propping up the deck is kinda nice as is the displayport output but I think valve are mainly releasing one so compatibility is guaranteed.
There is no Thunderbolt support so no eGPU's unfortunately.
I had to use PyCharm on my Steam Deck, and it worked as expected.
@@ETAPRIME Can you test out Jupyter Notebook, Anaconda 3 or 4 (or latest version) on the Deck? Thank you brother
Highly recommend the SanDisk microsdxc Extreme pro 1TB for $200
That 400GB SD card... Is that the same one everyone buys on Amazon? Plus with that clear case will it fit back in the OEM carrying case?
I have my preorder in for the project killswitch from Dbrand, they also sell glass protectors and skins!
Yup that's what I'm excited for as well
But it is still a long time until we get those things :/
I would be careful about the silicone cases. Silicone insulates extremely well, which is not good for thermals. I’ve seen people talking about thermal throttling on their steam decks after using a silicone case.
They have a purple crystal case. It goes really well with the teardown skin from dbrand. Gives an OG purple gameboy color look.
Link? porvavor
I got the 512gb Samsung Evo microsd card because the read/write card was really good, it had 170 read, 120 write
Hello, I can’t wait to get mine. Thanks for all the content.why dont you try to put the silicon over the plastic best of both worlds.
try pulling the rubber cases over the clear cases...it will sit fuller and you get the best of both worlds...
Quick word of caution: there are some reports on Reddit r/steamdeck of usb-c hubs messing up the deck. So proceed with caution.
Wow EzioTheDeadPort….. thanks for that info that’s the one I ordered and was wondering if a screen protector would mess up the anti glare
Okay, tell me if im wrong, If you still have both these cases, can you put them both on at the same time? ... They look like they would work better anything ive seen, but at the same time, with the plastic shell, on the inside.
Be careful with the HDMI docks their was some Reddit report on steam decks bricking. Everyone be careful treat your steam deck with care. Until valve rectify the situation with HDMI docs from bricking Decks.
that 20 dollar keyboard is the real hero of this video. I didn't realize mech keyboards were so cheap to make
Man what kind of dark magic did you conjure to put a screen protector on first try without any hassle
The ONLY THING I keep seeing as a positive on being in the Q2 gang is that we're getting the advantage of letting YOU twat all these things out for us first, rather than ending up with drawers full of modern PowerGlove/Sega Activator level bad gadgets.
Thank you for helping us dodge the ones that turn out to be real lemons!
I don't think calling a twat will make him want to keep reviewing these haha
@@MrConnorBig Yeah... I caught the typo right away, but for some reason it won't let me edit it... and to be fair, it's not in that context, and still fits. To "twat something out" (in slang/colloquial use) is to show it off in public very "loudly" so everyone sees, like a super-loud muffler on a souped up Honda Civic NOT for proper tuned compression, but to draw attention from bystanders. That's twatting out your Honda. so.... technically it still works either as the originally intended "test" and the typo. :-D
@@ArtemisKitty indeed its better this way haha
I was in quarter 2 but somehow ended up in quarter 3 I think
i used a few different esitmators that give you an idea of when your deck reservation will be available (would recommend, their easy to use, just asks for reservation id, model, and quarter your in) and among 3 of them i got april 11th to 18th, which could be a week earlier than that because of cancellations affecting it to come sooner, but i would highly recommend using it to know a rough idea when it will be available for you, not perfect but it gives you a estimate, may be off by a week or 2 tho. q2 gangs wait is nearly over tho
I really want an otter box style case. Maybe put the silicon over the clear plastic?
That crystal case just buy a spray can of primer and a can of spray paint of any color of your choice, and bam! Protection and your favorite color for your steam deck!
Steam Deck can do Wii U emulation nicely and that console also had Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8. Why pay close to $100 for the Switch versions when you can play it for FREE via Wii U emulation?
Well, free plus the cost of the Deck.
When you leave the house do you throw the Odin Pro into your pocket? or do you grab the deck case?
what do you think, is a anti glare protective films for the steam deck worth it?
This is what I'm wondering, as I'm thinking about the base model with the shiny screen, and putting an anti glare screen protector on it
@@brutalwang4106 i now tested for myself couple screen protectors and the mild matte from viascreens was by far the best ,if your still looking for a good anti glare protector.
9H hardness is a lie. Glass scratches at level 5 or 6 with deeper grooves at level 7.
Yeah that 9H is for a completely different metric
9H does refer to the Mohs scale. On cheaper screen protectors I expect it is a lie, as they are made with plain glass. If you buy the $30-40+ screen protectors they are made with synthetic sapphire and do have a true hardness of 9.
Just curious, as someone who's just put a glass protector over an etched-glass screen. Have you wrecked the anti glare capability? I'm not getting my Deck until Q3, but it is also a 512gb model and have thought that I should've gone for a lower tier model, so adding a protective screen would've made more sense.
Yes it makes it reflective
@@brandon_nope Does it lower the image quality by putting a screen protector on a 512? Mine’s coming today or tomorrow and I hope I didn’t screw myself…
@@Buffypoodle imo most glass screen protectors are a downgrade from the screen underneath. Sometimes the colors change slightly, rainbow effect can occur, but most importantly for phones, they just don't feel the same when scrolling.
@@807D14M0ND5 Hmm when I scroll on the Deck especially with the matte 512 screen it definitely doesn’t glide, not too smooth. Maybe some glass would rectify that, but I’ll have to look into it some more
@@Buffypoodle let us know how it turned out if you do go for a protector.
I got the 256 version but I would love to be able to buy the more expensive deck case.
Not sure if I missed it but with the hard clear case, will it fit in the stock carrying case without forcing it in or stretching the inside?
The controller that's in your thumbnail? Why isn't it listed or shown?
Indeed! Only reason why i clicked... Talk about clickbait
2:30 a note on screen protectors, if you are getting the most expensive version of the Deck putting any kinda of screen protection on it screen will undo all the fancy Anti-glare etching which kinda sucks as if your paying that much you you don’t want the screen getting all scratched up.
It won't be a problem for most people if they put the deck back where it belongs outside of normal use. In its case.
Though it seems thin enough to avoid issues, I am curious if the hard shell makes the tolerances too tight when putting the Deck back in it's official carry case. Would love any insights you might have. Also, lots of back and forth here and elsewhere about screen protectors potentially harming the etched-glass version of the deck. Thoughts?
At least your testing things out so if I get one I know what my best options are
Aaaaaah bummer, I bought a USB adapter and completely forgot about charging! Feeling so dumb now, it's been lying around for half a year or so ...
Also, do I need a screen protector with the etched screen version or would that ruin the effect?
i had a sd card that the steam deck could not format tried several times had to format it in my phone first before i could format it with the deck.
Great video. I am looking forward to getting mine.
What do you think the size of the analog sticks are, closer to PS4/5 or Xbox? Cause I wanna get stick caps for them
I really don't like how the steam deck setup is for hooking it up to a monitor.
You first need a USB hub that also takes power in. Then you need a USB to hdmi and finally preferably get Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
If they just allowed a USB or hmdi mini or both, this would have made things so much easier! Is the steam dock gonna have an hdmi port?
0:50 heads up, the bag only comes with the 512gb version.
Dude you forget portable monitor & power bank✌️👌
A portable monitor? Why
The Deck IS the portable monitor.
Awesome video 👍
