Exactly 25 years ago today, this episode premiered on PBS stations.
Happy 25th anniversary!
In this episode, Vic the Slick steals the Mona Lisa.

Dude I was obsessed with this show as an elementary school kid. I remember drawing each of the villain characters on the spines of binders for my bookshelf.
This is, in fact, the first actual episode. The pilot WAS actually aired as a regular show -- the scoring system was different (lost points for wrong answers, correct answers kept you at full score, for one example), and a disclaimer was given before the show to that effect.
Happy 30th Anniversary, “Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?”
There was a cartoon about this game show called "Where On Earth Is Carmen San Diego?".
Yea I remember dat
This show was formitive for me in a difficult childhood. I'm grateful to have been part of the epoch that yielded this.
Very fitting they were able to get the legendary Walter Cronkite for the first show.
Very fitting they sent the black kid to Africa. 🤣
It's wild that a game show about geography is like... one of the best aged kids show from the 90's.
We had some great game shows for kids back then.
Lynne Thigpen is AWESOME just giving her performance her all. I loved her on this show.
She also played Luna, the talking moon from Bear In The Big Blue House. Rest In Peace, Lynne Thigpin…
I sometimes think Carmen should've spoken to the contestant when trying to track her. I would actually call this bonus round Carmen's Map Challenge.
saw this when i was 7 in 1991 on pbs and kept watching until i was 11 in 1995 when it was cancelled thanks for uploading this brings back memories
It wasn't cancelled. They revamped into Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego for two more seasons. The Time version wasn't as good.
I agree
I think I prefer the revamped version instead of the original one
5th grade, that’s what grade I was in when “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” made its debut on PBS!! 🌎🌍🌏
Took me a while to find this; so glad that I did. Used to watch it with an ex-gf, and always loved the humor, music and skits. Really takes me back.
I used to watch this EVERYDAY on WQED back in the day! DO IT ROCKAPELLA!!! lol
WQED was of course one of the presenting stations of this show.
That’s right the other one was WGBH
Yessss!!! I used to watch it on WQED too. Every day, I looked forward to coming home and watching this and Square One TV!!!
@@doork01 Good for you!😂👍
So, you basically lived in _Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood_ (since it was taped in Pittsburgh at the WQED Studio in-house, with the sets now at the Heinz Museum) watching _WiTWiCS?_
Cool!
*Sad Informational Trivia (Which most fans already know, in all honesty)*
Both Lynne Thigpen (The Chief [1990-1995] & Luna the Moon from _Bear in the Big Blue House_ [1997-2003], among other things) and Mr. Rogers (Mister Fred McFeely Rogers of _Mister Rogers' Neighborhood_ [1968-2001]) both died in 2003 of a brain hemorrhage and complications from cancer, respectively, within a short time (a week, if not mere days) between each other.
I use to watch this all the time. I was only 10
Yep! I think it wasn't until a little later I really got into it. But anyway I even had a tape of Rockapella! Freakin' loved that theme.
So Vic The Slick was the first Carmen crook that was shown.
Depends if you count the pilot episode or not, because I think it was Patty Larceny that was featured on that one
@@NYChica23 yeah, 1st pilots are Patty. And the bonus round are both USA
King Carriere You’re right. The second pilot features that gruesome party twosome, Double Trouble.
@@scottegbert9575 Patty Larceny for 1st Pilot & Double Trouble for 2nd Pilot.
Patty Larceny was first in The actual pilot, then Double Trouble in the second pilot then Vic The slick in this episode
Even though I didn’t watch this show on tv when I was a kid I love watching it on RUclips
Sound and video quality are excellent in this one!
I just learned today that Greg Lee was also the voice of Mayor Bob White on the show Doug.
“Vote for me!”
he was also co host for a game show on nickelodeon named "outta here!"
@@henrytube5333 And a stagehand/prop man for _Double Dare_ also.
Still remember him doing up Jeff’s hair as Phil the barber and imagining Mayor White saying the same words if he was a barber…
“No, no, nonsense that burning sensation is normal, it’s the… well it’s the puffiness that has me worried…”
@@TherealRNOwwfpooh he was also the warm up guy on Make The Grade when Robb Edward Morris was host
PBS was my favorite station when I was a kid
Grew up on this show, what an informational and entertaining show. Learned so much from this sjow
Honestly, with Homeschooling my 4 children and going through US & World Geography, I was brought back to my younger self singing along with Rockapella & always loving the song and the show. Just shared this with my 14, 10, 8 & 3 year old and what a good feeling hubby and I got, (we are both 80's babies!), watching this whole 1st episode! Thanks for having this here to share with others!
How appropriate this was posted today. Of course, it would've been better if all the Season 1 episodes were up on YT for the 25th anniversary. If my memory serves correctly, the only ones missing are The Case of the Cribbed Crater, It's the Pits, and the Big Ness Mess, all from the first week.
the only other episode that is missing is case of the lifted lines.
@aDg 2k18 Why was it unaired? I grew up watching this show and I had no idea that there was an unaired episode.
I loved the part where the Mona Lisa called Greg and gave the clue. LOL, I actually remembered that from when I was a kid. Yet, I didn't remember the Ninja Turtle reference. Then again, I'm not really a TMNT fan to begin with, so make of that what you will.
Another thing I love about the show is when they do the Loot, Warrant, Crook thing. Rockapella comes up with some hilarious stuff with the Loot sometimes.
It can be a missed thing with the tmnt reference since you didn't watch that. It's okay. Not everyone watched that when they were kids
I want this theme to be played at my funeral
I’ve been binging these for like a week. I’ve always loved history, culture, and geography.
0:10 carmen's gang is bankrolled by who??
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting and viewers like you. DON'T YOU EVER GET ANYTHING RIGHT?!
Nostalgiaaaaa 😅 brings great childhood memories back Love it❤👍🎉
From the American kid game show "Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego?" on PBS, this is a September 1991 premiere episode, which talks about the taking of a shrew. The three players competing on this premiere episode are Jason, Jay & Risa. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Zombie Jamboree. Forgot that was in the premier ep.
I didn't watch this when it was originally on (wasn't born until 1992). I do think I had one Carmen Sandiego CD Rom game though I don't remember which one it was or whether I played it or not. Still like this show though.
I didn't know this was a whole live action game show!
Man I Miss this Show
I always loved this game show! It was filled with lots of humor and interesting trivial clues. I especially liked the Rockapella quartet because of their impressive vocal harmonies!

10:18 why is this so funny 😭😭😭😭
I knew you were going to post this
Good times. 💗

If anyone I meet ever calls Dallas "The Big D", it won't be Dallas I think they're talking about.
ADHD kids learn our geography and history because of the Carmen shows and games and I maybe a 70s kid but still learning from this series
They had to have the premiere episode with the most difficult continent? I would've started off with the USA.
Greg's voice reminds me of some celebrity, but I can't think who it is. It's driving me crazy.
I know this was 6 years ago but he sounds like Jason Bateman 😊
This episode had a different funding credit bumper at the end that I assume is exclusive to this episode as no other episode has that particular funding credit bumper.
This being the first aired episode, it makes sense.
@@NickCMedia I guess it does since Lynne Thigpen’s spiel was more generic and not as in character. Something else I noticed was that this episode’s office sketch looks to have been done live cause Greg and the Chief reference all the episode’s informants and answers up to that point.
When I was 3 I could've sworn that on some episodes where the winning gumshoe had to track down carmen sandiego through 6 locations in 45 seconds to win the trip. And I could've sworn the grand prize trip have always been anywhere in North America
Some foreign versions, especially European versions, had them get 6 in 45 seconds. The grand prize trip was expanded to anywhere in North America in season 2.
Didn't Greg have a brown suitjacket in the first season?
The Vintage Communist Queen
No, only red or green.
Imagine Pentatonix doing the remake of the theme song.
Did the Mona Lisa painting talk?
first ever episode Vic is in my home state of course he'll get busted but then he gets Africa so OF COURSE Carmen gets away!!!
Tagline of a revival game show series: Carmen is back.... but where?
does anyone know if this is on dvd?
But Guys, How I Download All Full Episodes from Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego on Paramount+? 😔
How did none of these kids answer Texas lmao
Did Rockapella say they were stoned? 😆
@asuicuneontheobx823 Oh Zombie Jamboree by Harry Belafonte. The lyric is "Don't give a damn, I done dead already". I think they changed it to "I'm stone dead already."
