@@jonarbuckle778 It has been getting only a few hundred thousand viewers in the US for years now, interest there peeked and fell off after Matt Smith departed. The I-player views are blatantly in many cases the same viewers rewatching it after watching it on broadcast. I used to do that myself back in Matt Smiths day. They are counting the same eyeballs two and three and more times in those "consolidated" numbers to try and massage the embarrassment up to even five or six million audience levels, which even just in the Uk with a 70 million population would still be disastrously low interest levels.
Strange how Eurovision fans stayed out of the warm weather to watch their show. 7.6 million of them, 5 million more than Doctor Who. Well done, Russell. Well done, Ncuti! And of course, well done, Disney!

I've been a fan since I was 3 years old, Pertwee was my first Doctor and The Fourth, Good old Tom Baker is still my favorite Doctor.
A few years ago I was at the Ottawa comic Convention and got to have my picture taken with Peter Capaldi...the Last Real Doctor.

Part of me wants to gloat but the more reasoned part thinks far too great a price was paid for the gloating to be cathartic. I'd rather have an entertaining Dr Who than the ability to gloat over the corpse of Dr Who.
I look at this as a win, since it's really wokeness that's dying. Disney's parks have been keeping them alive, but even those have been losing visitors rapidly since they've also gone woke, so it won't be long now.

Especially when it cannot tell if someone has viewed and episode more than once, thus skewing overall numbers as it is not 4 people watching, just 1 watching it 4 times.

My first Dr Who was John Pertwee and I was instantly hooked. I remember in 2005, laying in front of the TV with a huge grin on my face as I watched Christopher Eccleston turn to Rose and say “I am the Doctor”. I thought he’s back.
Now I couldn’t care less, I never thought I would hear myself say this but I hope it gets cancelled. The thing I loved about Dr Who was the innocence of it all. RIP the Doctor 😢

His debut was at Xmas. That got crap figues for that slot too.

Wheelchair user here and, yes, the wheelchair’s inserted into the already awful song and dance number pissed me off - the worst kind of pandering. Also gay and my blood boiled as a dragged up Maestro started talking about lesbians, despite lesbians having nothing to do with the show or plot - and this in a Disney funded “family show”. The writing for both episodes was terrible (and often ‘paint by numbers’ in execution and the Bogeyman made of bogies was pathetic), the acting was pretty much below par except for Millie Gibson (the girl they’re replacing) and, surprisingly, Jinx Monsoon (as long as the character was viewed like a pantomime villain or channeling Alan Rickman’s Sheriff of Nottingham) - Gatwa was actually very bad in more than a few scenes (almost Amateur Dramatic level), and the plots were a joke with more plot holes than Swiss cheese). The final nail in the coffin was the song and dance number - accompanied by the wheelchairs AND breaking the fourth wall (badly). There’s a Moffat penned episode next week that, on the surface, looks ok (though Gatwa wasn’t in the sneaker peek so ‘early days’) but I think, with the puerile “Space Babies” and the laughably bad “The Devil’s Chord”, the damage may have already been done.

I remember when actors who were newly cast as the next Doctor Who were very appreciative & considered it a honor to have been chosen. Also they would talk about how they hoped to live up the the past performances. Not insult it's existence & make fun of it's fans.

I think they wrote these few episodes for the Disney Execs. If they are all this quality, then yeah. It will not be a success, but from where I stand, there is nowhere to go butt up. The farting space station filled with space babiez was funny though. They should have shown all the dirty nappies blasting out the rear end of the ship with the methane. I mean Star Trek has its "Spore Drive" that works by a giant network of intergalactic fungus and tardigrades (cringe), so why can't Dr Who have a "Poop" drive?

And Discovery is not well-liked by Star Trek fans and was Star Trek in name only. The "spore drive" concept was ridiculous for Star Trek. The show was complete shit and was a decay of Star Trek into the sort of excrement that Doctor Who has become. Good example, though, I'll give you that.

Oh no! Anyway! I was done with Doctor Who after the first Jodie season, I watched the Tenant return episodes and they were ok, but the goblin epsidoe just made me go "Nope, not Doctor Who!" so I'll just stick to the old episodes of Baker when I want some Who in my life.
Pertwee was also pretty good. Tom baker will forever hold the crown though.
I really enjoy the first four classic doctors, always good for a rewatch.

Its not a massive amount when you understand there are 24 million Tv licenses granted and in use in the Uk. And about 70 million people....that puts it in perspective. I always laugh and argue with people that go - Oh it was the most watched show of the week and had the largest audience share!!! So that makes it ok? NO!!!! Not when the audience is only 2 million or so out of 24 - 70 million potential viewers...which it could be getting a large share of if it was any good....
2 million is abysmal for a show like Dr Who this show was pulling in 10+ million in its prime. 2 million are basically The CW numbers. i honestly didn't think it was possible for it to drop this low. if papa disney didn't get ahold of it i have no doubt it would be canceled after this season.
@@evenhartwick4422 Yes it is exactly as you say. The show was axed back in the 80s with viewing figures this low. Look at Jodie with her 10 million debut, that then went into terminal decline week in week out over her entire run down to the 2 - 4 million mark. This is where RTD and Gaywa have started from and its dropping already. To loose 200 thousand from one episode to the next is pretty telling. Lastly all you need to know about how bad it can get is to look at the show A Question of Sport. It ran for years with a charismatic presenter etc getting reasonable viewing figures. They then changed it all putting Paddy McGuiness in as presenter. It ended up dropping below a million viewers per week and they axed it rather than admitting they got it wrong and should have left it alone. If Disney pulls out of this deal for whatever reason in the future there is no way this show can continue as it is on the BBC.

@@NightimeInDeepSpace no excuse to be this low as i said these are CW numbers and that a low level channel made for tweens this is the BBC one of the biggest networks in the world with one of the biggest sci-fi IPs of all time. streaming is not why its this low, alienating large portions of the fanbase is.

I was certainly one of those. Doctor Loincloth couldn't have been more overtly gay in every scene he was in from posing on the TARDIS console to sashaying his hips as he minced off in the space station. Then seeing that the white girls mum and nan are blacker than soot just made me actually vomit.
Also don't forget Disney is known for fudging numbers, they can easily claim whatever they want on viewer numbers and no one would know if it is true or not.

Thing is Dr. Who was always asexual. We never really knew (or cared) about his sex-life. His character did nt need this extra dimension (pun!) of sexuality.

First episode, Space Babies, was one of the worst and cringe episodes I've seen so far, and second episode, Devil's Chord, was somewhat bearable, but not particularly good either.
I feel like these episodes are the worst episodes to start a season and especially bad as first episodes of a soft reboot that should bring new audience to the show. If I was a new viewer I'd actually stop watching after the first episode, because as I said, that was one of the worst episodes I've ever seen, and a new viewer would assume that the whole show is this poor quality, and would stop watching, because they wouldn't want to spend their time on something that bad.
Doctor Chocolate did tell in an interview that if you dont like the new show, you should go outside and touch grass. Guess people listened.
For me the show ended when Doctor Jodie popped up, said "Brilliant", pushed a button and Tardis Kicked her out. She died from the fall. Guess it was so bad, not even all her remaining regenerations could help.

It's been nearly 20 years, but I'm pretty sure DW debuted in the US 2005 with a double-bill - I distinctly remember watching _"The End of the World"_ right after _"Rose."_
And yes, the "10 million" figure for _"The Church on Ruby Road"_ is incorrect - that figure refers to all DW content streamed that day, not just the new special. Of the 10 million, only 1.8m were views of the new episode.

Disney has been losing money for over a year now. There's lots of lessons to be learned there. It's mind boggling how none of the producers and show runners warned Gatwa to avoid attacking the fans, because the entertainment industry as a whole is in a very fragile position. This is an embarrassing oversight.

They inserted 4 immersion breaking songs into the last 3 episodes which were not acknowledged by the characters afterwards as if it was a musical. That's why I didn't watch the new episode.

Gatwa is not an actor, he’s a circus clown. I’ve only seen bits of the show through RUclips reviews and it’s laughable…I’m embarrassed for everyone involved. I understand negative/positive lift and displacement, but I cannot understand how anyone looks at this show and genuinely likes it.
Didnt they tell their main audience that if you dont like it move on? I moved on over 2 years now. I do NOT care about Doctor Who. I dont care whether its a man, woman, dog, cat, multigrained.. I absolutely do NOT care. What I care about is when it just goes away and these actors and directors that HATE their audience are never rehired again.
