  • Java, Bali, and Titan are captive tigers who have all had several homes over their lives. Each rescued from tough situations, they find sanctuary at Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO) in San Antonio Texas and become instant friends. But hard economic times touch not only people. WAO is forced to close and now the tigers need new homes... Again.
    What does it take to move almost two tons of wild cat some 1,400 miles and re-habituate them? 'Removed' tells the story of Java, Bali, and Titan, as well as the people that care for these beautiful yet discarded creatures, all the while shedding light on the little-known world of captive tigers in America.

    I'm not sure WHY they would try to keep this a secret.... But, Java is the female who lost her temper once in the transport cage. Before this video even ended and informed us Java passed away... I noticed she sustained 2 injuries while being transported. At 14:50 as she enters the small access door, there is a large deep wound on her left, up near the spine or top of her tail. Also toward the end of video 24:30, when she walks past the camera she has a deep bleeding wound on her right temple. I would assume the injury bleeding on her back was the cause of her disc rupture. She must have woken up in the moving truck & just had a fit!! Flipping & flopping herself, like cats do. I believe, she INJURED HERSELF during this move! I just wish IF WHAT I FOUND ON THIS VIDEO IS TRUE.... they would make it known! Anyone thinking about purchasing a large cat (or any other large animal) should be made aware.... its not always neglect or intentional reasons CAGING ANIMALS CAN CAUSE THEIR DEATHS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS NOT NORMAL TO EXISTING IN THE WILD. These poor cats, never knew true freedom!

      @OanhSchlesinger There is no way to transport wild animals that guarantee the animal will not be injured in the process. You cannot sedate the animals for extended periods of time without risking their death. The shame is that there is a need to transport these animals from one point to another to begin with. The selfish desire of people are the reason these animals are taken from their native land and forced to live in captivity. They were meant to be wild animal and will always remain wild. I live in North Carolina and am applaud that there is no laws against owning and breeding wild animals to sell to anyone who wants one.

No zoos no animal in any cage the land that they belong to is where they should be. And there is a surgery for spinal disk ruptures. As a surgery tech in animal and human surgery , working at U.C.D in Cali. It could have been tried we do it on doxies and large dogs too, yet maybe any type of after care would not be possible so yes that seems right. I feel very sad for Java. I have mixed thoughts on big cats in captivity. Certainly they belong in the wild, not in cages or even large enclosures.
    But the problem is the wild is disappearing at an alarming rate and so are the animals that the big cats hunt.
    So until we allow the wilderness to return, maybe a well funded well run facility or private reserve is a good thing for them, for now.

    • @OanhSchlesinger
      @OanhSchlesinger 4 года назад +5

      I agree only on the condition that at some point they are returned home preferably sooner than later. Even well run facilities have cages. Some reserves / conversations do not. Where they can be the animals they were meant to be. I oppose the idea of cages- in any form. Humans ruin everything. From poachers to city & back yard zoo keepers.

      If governments stepped in and stopped captive breeding and ownership all together the money used to house and care for captive animals could go towards preserving wilderness and wild populations. Look at these tigers, bounced around multiple times because it's crazy expensive to care for them. Captive populations don't protect wild populations, they divert money that could be used to protect wild populations.

      Do you understand the evolutionary implications of that? These animals, in wild usually have miles to themselves. They have stuff like markings etc. They even kick their family out of their areas.
      Now understand the torture they feel being enclosed in a few small feets.
      *Only solution is to preserve wilderness & to provide strict punishements to those who break it.*
      Putting them in enclosures like these would only devolve them. Make them like dogs.

    • @akeeperofoddknowledge4956

      @@senor2930 I agree about restoring the wilderness so these animals, along with those they hint, can flourish
      As for your comment about tigers roaming free for miles and miles - they're not sightseeing or exercising
      They're hunting!
      Unless and until the wilderness is restored, I think they're better off on PROPERLY RUN shelters.
      For example: some Bengal tigers are larger than Siberian tigers because poachers kill the off before they ever reachatirity! They need protection!

    What I like about BCR (Big Cat Rescue) is that they have great facilities, well cared for cats, strict no contact policy, no breeding, and allow the public to visit.
    The cats have dens to retreat to if they want to be alone, but the different people coming thru provides stimulation for the cats.
    By being closed off and not allowing the availability of public funding, you cut out signifiant funds that can be used to support the cats.
    Especially with high meat prices and vet costs.

Just show films of animals in their wild habitat and how care-free and happy they look. In contrast show a film of Ivan the gorilla and his miserable life. If that isn't convincing I don't know what will be?

    Whilst I'm uncomfy with big kitties in captivity, it should be noted that these have mostly been in captivity all of there lives and know nothing else, so would they survive in the wild? I understand the comments below but can't help but think that these are in the best place. With people who love and care for them.

    • @ifawglobal
      @ifawglobal  4 года назад +3

      Hi Colin, thank you for your comment. We love to see animals returned to their wild homes whenever possible! Sadly, these animals have been bred and raised in captivity, and are generally habituated to humans. Unlike in cases of animals in the wild that may become injured or otherwise need to be rehabilitated and then returned to their wild homes, these cats have never had wild homes-and they would not be equipped to survive in wild. Most successful rescue/releases are animals that were already in the wild to begin with and just need some assistance or time to heal from an injury or illness before they can return home. In rare cases, orphaned young animals may be prepared for release. But this requires a specialized care regime that includes a complete separation from humans and training the animals to identify and successfully hunt appropriate wild game. This is not something that is possible to do with adult cats, especially those who already look to humans for all of their needs. If released these animals would not survive in the wild and would likely become a threat to local communities.
      We are advocating to get a bill passed to protect captive big cats in the US. This bill, the Big Cat Public Safety Act (BCPSA), will allow people who already have big cats as pets at the time the law passes to keep them. However, they will have to register them, and they will be prohibited from getting additional big cats and from breeding those cats that they already have. We have been working with the big cat sanctuary community for years to improve animal care practices and to strengthen financial sustainability. We’re confident that the big cat sanctuary community, in partnership with IFAW, will be able to provide quality lifetime care to any animals surrendered or confiscated before and after passage of the BCPSA.

      @@ifawglobal stop feeding the idea - we are their only hope. Your organization is a huge part of the problem. Fix it! The goal should be to release not to keep. You may even be doing something good by increasing their numbers. Others are doing it with success. Don't believe me, look it up for yourself. The internet has a wealth of information. Cases upon cases of successful releases. A lady on this video says, some things can be taught but mostly they rely on instinct. Instinct is not a learned trait. It is a bred trait. Bred traits are: hunting, killing, eating, mating, pack behavior. Perfecting the trait is a life long process. Survival of the fittest. Look at this, ruclips.net/video/_2xOzKO4u8k/видео.html

    Just shows how worthless our government can be...we have way too many laws that generate money and limit our freedoms, but it's totally legal to own a tiger??

    • @voornaam3191
      @voornaam3191 4 года назад +4

      You miss the point. Owning a tiger is not the problem. The government is not the problem. Owning a tiger and not taking good care for the tiger is the problem. Tigers should live in the wild, but okay, if you have a whole lot of space, including the swimming water tigers love, the right food and your vet is a tiger specialist, you can meet all legal obligations. Do not think that is cheap or easy, however.
      The problem is, when things go wrong. Stupid people can not have a tiger. You've got to know what a tiger is.
      And if you do not know who Anna Breytenbach is, the animal communicator, forget about a tiger. Even if you know all facts about big cats, if you do not know there's a deep bond betwen species, chances are, you'll make mistakes. Even zoo owners sometimes need the help of an animal communicator.
      So, check out Anna Breytenbach, in South Africa, when you have seen her relationship with animals, you will understand there is a way to be safe with animals. That is very very special, but when you are prepared to learn to be like her, you could safely have tigers.
      You can think of all the things that can go wrong, but how can the government step in? Are those big cat owners checked every month or so? You should, when there's an animal law, there must be checking animal welfare, not just wait until there is a complaint, you would be far too late then. No, register them, do checks and let the owners pay for that.

    To truly wish that we could just leave well enough alone and enjoy the beauty of the wild in the wild. If a big cat or elephant needed help then yes, we should do whatever possible to help heal and back to where we found it or where family is at that time. We are able to heal a whale, catch up to it’s pod at the right time of year and they know their language and will gladly rush to the pod given the chance so it’s possible to allow elephants and others in families to catch up and tigers being solitary can b put into an awesome habitat to find his own range but to keep them as pets or shows or zoos is so unfair to these beautiful creatures. I saw in kindergarten many years ago a beluga whale in our zoo in Vancouver and my heart was broken then, I saw polar bears and penguins too and it all broke my heart at 5 yrs old and it’s not healed yet.

I know this organization is doing the best they can with limited donations. I've made donations to this non profit. Though, what's the quality of life if the tigers cannot roam a larger territory or preserve? Some tigers become obese from sedentary lifestyle or metabolic or disease issues of their own? These magnificent animals should not be placed in a situation where they have to be shuffled from home to home living in enclosures the rest of their lives. The government should be financially responsible for all aspects of their care as they allow stupid and greedy, soulless people to own them as pets and to make money by breeding and selling the cubs. Only then will enough people care enough to change current laws if their tax dollars are at stake. It's outrageous the abuse and neglect of exotic animals is still happening today with no thought given to what should happen to big cats once they are discarded by their owners or confiscated. Thankfully there are many good people who genuinely love and care for animals but overall human beings are seriously flawed and the world would be a better place with less people and more animals in their natural habitat living free and wild.

    Wonderful organization I am sure. But I had to laugh at the instructions of... these are not pets we don’t touch them and we don’t pet them. Next scene lady petting lion and another worker letting a tiger smell her bloody hand! Lol.

    The only way it will stop is if laws are put into place in EVERY single state banning the ownership of ANY wild exotic animal. With high penalties. I've seen better places then this one where the animals have acres and acres to run free with protection

      Because they are soooooooo darn cute. And my GOD,are they sooooooooooo loving towards one another. And if you give them tires,and other human play toys,they do the funniest antics. Their feet are round,and they are just beautiful. But as I love animals, I think all are beautiful. Well most are.

    Why didn’t you guys just put some raw cubes of there meat into that little holding gage so that it can entice the tiger. This works for Kevin Richardson the lion Whisperer and also you would save the animal the stress and danger of having to anesthetize the animal.

    Heartbreaking, just all around heartbreaking! And if it wasn't bad enough just a few months later the poor female Tiger Java gets euthanized! The so called experts need to come up with treatments, surgeries, ECT to help these beautiful creatures, like yesterday! I hate it when people decide to euthanize animals, any animals! Who the hell do people think they are??!! Absolutely disgusting!!! SMH!!!!!

    Being a tiger in the wild is not hard being a tiger in captivity is hard for the animal because there not being a tiger in captivity there not free to roam hunt and find there own bed thay don’t like humans therefore they should not have to be forced and caged around human animals will hunt if thay get hungry put them back into the wild and house a cow if you want to cage something for a show peice without these animals in cages there would be a lot of minus jobs

    it only needs one tiny change to the law to fix this problem, that is if you get one you are responsible for its upkeep for life, if it goes to a sanctuary you pay for its upkeep, or if they convince someone to take it off their hands they have to get the buyer to sign a legal doc stating they will take over the care of the animal for life, and where you display this information make sure you have close by in large numbers the average cost of each type of animal,eg you can't feed and house a lion for under 10k per year so if you got a spare 150k plus don't get a large cat, shit these new domestic cats they are breeding are trouble enough and there 5kg not 250kg
