The Carinthia Tropen/tropical is perfect for summer but a really bad choice for winter and snow. The fabric is not windproof and will soak it self like a sponge. I use mine even in summer with a british army goretex bivy bag. Look at the Defence 1. It is not much more heavy but has a windproof and stronger fabric. The Defense 1 is a true 3 seasons bag.
I agree, and with the review winter hadn't become that could yet. I am happy to use the tropen in early winter and with a tent. But as winter got colder, below -5C, the tropen was to weak. Just as could be expected. I was looking at the defence 4, but then I found a couple of surplus british army "defence 4". Super happy with those, they were priced at around 60 euros and from what I have experienced, they were hardly used at all. Still use them with a tent or wooden shelter though. I have yet to try a bivi.
Have you looked into www.lamnia.com/en/p/53842/camping-and-outdoors/carinthia-tropen-l-sleeping-bag-sand ? I saw some info about free us shipping over $150. Dont know if it applies to all products but they have 1 carinthia Tropen sleeping bag (size Large) in stock as of right now
@@JonesFitnessOutdoor thanks! I just tried from Alpinshop and made an account and everything, put my card info and it keeps saying Payment Refused. So I called my CC company they said there should be no problem, lol. So I tried again and gave up. This place is a little more expensive but that’s ok. I’ll try to make an account soon and see if it works. Maybe my luck is no so good today :/ Haha.. thanks though!!
I think I figured it out. Looks like eberlestock sells rebranded carinthia sleeping bags in the us. Probably thats why retailers outside the us cant ship there. So I would look at eberlestock instead. Says they use carinthia g-loft insulation so my guess they are the same.
I used the tropen and defence 4 in the dutch army also the carinthia hoopt bivy....realy loved it..very good shit compared with the other gear...but now they got the FESCA clone....I must say that the also realy good.....last winter I tested de FESCA Defence 4 clone without the tropen and with an British army bivybag ..it was minus 17 and I had a good warm sleep......🙂
I havent used the original defence 4, but the fesca works good. I used it with a liner in - 10C. It was warm enough. And I used it with a Tropen and a liner in - 25C. I had a good sleep😁
Wahaha i know the feeling !! ..sorry mate ..i thought to hear a Finnish accent.....only bin down south of Sweden to drink k a cup of coffee...bin on eccersice in Norway and workd on the Baltic pipeline in Finland...I realy like Scandinavia and love the the real winters there!

Great for summer. Not bad for spring and autumn but with a tent or bivy.
I agree👍
thank you for the video....how tall are you.?
Thanks for watching. I am 190 cm or about 6'3".
Why you think that thing is called tropen? Perfect for winter 🤔
I know. Cant imagine using it in tropical conditions. The most versatile sleepingbag I have come across👍
Do you know why it is called Tropen..? I never thought of the reason, but it means tropical doesn't it?
Thank you for your video.
