Thanks SO MUCH for this review. I have looked for exactly this, a comprehensive look at the whole series and thoughts on playing them solo and together. You hit the nail on the head for me on this one, Richard. :)
Thank you for doing this comboriffic review of the games. It gives me a reason to look into these games that I had discounted as too light. Now the problem of the setting for me is big. I like more the realistic one, but I'm color blind! Why don't publishers remember us😭
My only upset is that the Golem Edition don't make the Panorama that the original theming does on the boxes. It was like a bonus treat for having all three games, putting them side-by-side and making one large image. Other than that, I love these games. The first and the third one are easily my favorite, but that's just because we don't like pickup and delivery as a mechanic as well as the others
I believe Endless world is the best followed by Eastern Mountains as far as individual games. Least favorite is Century Golem. I enjoy worker placement a bit more than deck-building though. Have yet to add multiples together yet but look forward to it.
I think it's a really cool concept and well-executed, but since I can only keep so big a collection, it feels like I'd be better served with having games with perhaps fewer ways to play, but that offers an arguably better experience because they were able to focus on polishing a single design rather than 7.
Century Golem is the game I use to get people into modern board games. I've never played any of the combination games though, so I need to try those out as someone that likes the heavier games. Thanks for the thoughts! All great games :) Also, I personally prefer the Golem editions! What about you?
I bought all the Spice Road versions because I found a comment on BGG ages ago where the publisher said Century Golden Edition was a 1-off and they wouldn't do the expansions in a Golem Edition... Then they did. I'd rather have the Golem Editions because I prefer the art and colors.
i'm fine with either. tbh i'm probably on some deep level more drawn to the more grounded, realistic stuff, but otoh, in century some of the art on cards was literally wrong for the spices they generated, so that always kind of bugged me. plus golem seems much more color blind friendly, which is a big improvement
Rahdo: 1 question, Watching this I thought of 2 games. 1, Charterstone which I adored but have no interest to play it post campaign. 2, Gizmos which I strongly dislike. Your thought about comparing to the two games? Thanks for runthrough. I have been eyeing this for a long time now. You're the best!
Just discovered the channel, really loving it. I did wonder as you are mainly into playing with 2p only have tried Watergate, it's one of my favourites for 2p and VERY addictive, 1 game isn't ever enough.
it's a good question, and i'd suggest asking here: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/270970/century-new-world/forums/0 chances are someone there has tried it! :)
i was curious so i just checked with a color blind simulator and yeah, they seem to work much better. every game should drop red in favor of magenta! :)
in theory you could, but it would be kind of a pain because the colors for the resources changed between the different agmes, so you'd constantly be having to compensate for that

hope to see a big box release

On the plus side, the artwork on the Golem cards actually matches what the cards do, whereas the art on the Spice Road cards does not.

I own and love the base golem century game! Time to pick up the other two now! :)
Thanks Richard, great job and loved the transitions

Any reason why you couldn't house rule the trade route cards back into the supergame?
in theory it would be fine, but i'm assuming there's a reason emerson left them out, and i'll defer to him :)

well it's a fairly light game, much like gizmos, but the gameplay is pretty different. and it is a worker placement game, like charterstone....
I was looking for a game that would teach me worker placement. Looks like this might be it. Thanks!

watergate seems very cool, but my wife wouldn't really be into the theme i think, plus it's a bit more comfrontational that we normally go for :)
Hi, I see you rate them as a 7+ individually on your ratings page. Would you still rate the 1st & 3rd (drafting & worker placement) combo a 7+?
hmm, depending on the combination, mid-7 to low 8 :)
d'oh, you mentioned the combination you were curious about, 1&3. that's the best combo which i'd give a low 8 :)
@@rahdo That's a decent increase. Thanks :)
would house ruling the cards "trade route" back into the super game cause any issues?
it's a good question, and i'd suggest asking here: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/270970/century-new-world/forums/0 chances are someone there has tried it! :)
Century Spice Road (original game) unplayable if colour blind :-( Not sure if golem versions addressed this?
i was curious so i just checked with a color blind simulator and yeah, they seem to work much better. every game should drop red in favor of magenta! :)
@@rahdo Interesting. Thanks for checking :-)
Did you say I can combined this with Century Spice Road? Thanks
in theory you could, but it would be kind of a pain because the colors for the resources changed between the different agmes, so you'd constantly be having to compensate for that
Gollum edition?
Has anyone ever told you that you sound loads like the lawyer from Always Sunny in Philadelphia?
that's a new one! :)
Why do you think the original game doesn’t work as well with 2 players?
talked about it here: ruclips.net/video/5YizD6JdIGI/видео.html
Let me guess. You loved it?
dude, what's your point?
