Qualifications for being a ref in the NFL - 1. Do what you’re told 2. Follow orders 3. Keep your mouth shut. 4. Bee good at referee job.
Here’s how it works. Fan duel, massive NFL sponsor, calls Roger Goodell and says, “hey, we’re having a tough season so far, we have 80% of bets on team X, we need their opponent, team Y to not only cover, but win, understood?!” Yes sir says Roger. Call goes out from Rogers minion to official crew chief, whose number one skill is following orders. Yes sir. Says loyal minion ref. Deal done.
2nd real situation. Little Caesars. Major nfl sponsor calls up Roger and says. “Roger, we’re not selling near enough pizzas in major market X because team X is terrible. We need more fan engagement to sell more pizza in market X. Sure thing says Roger. Call goes out from Rogers minion to official crew chief, whose first, second and third best skills are 1. Doing what they’re told. 2. Keeping their mouth shut. 3. Following orders. Who is told. Team X needs to be shown some love this week. Yea sir. Says ref minion. Who calls the ref of the game. And tells him. I’ve got orders for you. Team X needs love. Team X gets love.
      No accountability.

They are supposed to play the ball. It is more about paying attention and body control. If the WR stops running and reaches behind you, turn your body some and look for the ball. Keep a hand on them when you do, so you can feel if they start running again. Also, make sure that hand is not holding an arm down or yanking on a jersey. If the DB plays it right, they are in the best position to intercept.
The problem is most of these knuckleheads just run directly into the WR's chest and never attempt to turn around.

Just this last weekend I got called for pass interference (which is wasn’t) on a 4th and goal pass attempt that was uncatchable. The QB was literally throwing the ball away, just in the direction of my WR. The legal hit by Gipson on the receiver for the browns? The head coach for Minnesota getting caught twice on camera, once telling his TE to go down to get a free time out. And the second telling the ref to look at his receiver and there was a holding call that gave Minnesota a first down.

Something is stirring up in Seattle I don't like to see. Players are going up to refs at the beginning of games n telling them to watch #14.(D.K.Metcalf). Players are quitting on the play so that D.K. goes to block them n they go to the ground for penalties. Watch the one game, D.K. has been penalized before the week or so before, and literally says something to the player before he puts both hands on him in the chest n the guy goes down like a sack of potatoes. ....we're not soccer, this is the NFL, this crap has to be removed from the game.

I watched the Eagles game and was pretty surprised to see that the Eagles didn’t have any penalties, but then I started seeing some pretty blatantly missed calls. To the point where it would have made the game much closer than it was if they were called. The NFL is preventing some memorable games from happening due to bad refs.
The great thing is that there’s enough data that can be used to see if there’s a correlation between the rise in bad ref calls and the rise in sports gambling.
It wouldn’t imply causation, but it would be interesting to view the outcome. And yes, if there’s dirty refs then the game is being scripted by the refs.

After watching the doc about Tim Donaghy, I learned the leagues can affect outcomes of games via officiating.
The “script” for the NBA wasn’t a set of story turns given to players, it was telling officials what rules to selectively enforce. Donaghy and the other officials ultimately just did what they were told. This is evidenced by the fact that by the NBA’s metric Donaghy was the second most accurate official in the league while he was betting and winning 80% of those bets.
I believe this to be true for the NFL. After watching Bears Steelers two years back, I was convinced. The announcers talked about how the Bears were the only franchise the Steelers had never beaten at the beginning of the game and they presumed the Bears would lose. Then during a late comeback as Fields and the Defense were making an unlikely comeback the officials took over the game. One literally walked into a linebacker and then threw a flag on him. It was right there in the open. They got the Steelers the win.

When theres a penalty that a ref needs to review, the viewer at home gets to listen in on the conversation between the ref and the reviewer. It was such a fun game. The story of PJ Walker and Gardner Minchew battling it out as backup quarterbacks, playing out of their minds, all gets washed out by horrible officiating. All we remember are these officials that robbed us the great ending of the story. Same with the Iowa game. Same with a lot of games the last few years. Alabama at Texas last year... that play in the end zone where Bryce Young threw it backwards out of the end zone. Review for targeting that comes up negative. But no fumble out of end zone... no safety for grounding... ends up with the wrong team winning because of officiating. How many false starts on tackles are not being called? How many holding calls on tackles trying to stop edge rushers are going uncalled? The game of football, both pro and college, is getting hard to watch because of the bad officiating.

The refs didn't lose that game. The Colts did. If you need to rely on referees to hold a win for you, then you can't complain when they don't do it.
If you don't want to get called for PI, don't grab the receiver while they're going up for a catch. Doesn't matter where the ball is. You won't get called for interfering if you don't interfere.

We were at that game. Definitely bad back-to-back calls. It didn't help that Gardner turned the ball over 4 times. But man, when we thought the strip-sack was the end of the game, the crowd went nuts. Then I saw the flag and I went "oh no!" What a heart-wrenching loss. And Watson was cleared to play the game after he went in for a concussion check. He was cleared to go back in but didn't. Wow!

As for Watson's injury, when he went down on the field he was pointing at the same shoulder he has had issues with in the past, idk why they tested him for a concussion but he cleared that and it was the coaches that decided to keep him out to protect his shoulder. I was half expecting to see him run out there when they were trying to force their way into the end zone or maybe for the 2 point try
