I think you nailed it when speaking about the integrity (or lack there of!) She said that no player should fear harm based on race or for any reason. I agree but if she feels that way then she(someone) should address how all season long CC was getting hammered on the court you saw it, I saw it, thanks to the CC Effect millions of viewers saw it and we also saw the refs do nothing, the coaches do nothing, the GMs/owners do nothing even the other players. Sure some of the other players were the problem but I don't believe all those others were OK to watch it happen. As the old saying goes evil thrives when good people do nothing!

I so agree, Jemele Hill wants the WNBA to be an activist group that happens to play basketball. If they want to make real money, they need to focus on being an actual basketball league. If someone wants to use their platform to promote a social issue they feel strongly about, that is their right & I don't see that as a problem. But it becomes a problem when you want to force every player in the league & everyone in the fandom to be just as invested in & willing to only promote the exact point of view they have chosen on those social issues.

The player’s activism as their DNA in the WNBA is the exact problem with the league not growing until Clark came along. Sports leagues are entertainment first, that’s why people pay money to watch. Fans don’t want to be going into a political arena, they want to watch basketball. These players have been pampered too long and they make no mention that their league loses millions of dollars every year.

It is not centered around male/female differences either and for that matter the "hazing" girls went thru was usually more harsh than it was for boys in my experience. That was really bad, but the DIRTIEST play of the season was committed by Alyssa Thomas (who else would it be?) against Angel Reese. I am not a fan of AR, so this take is not at all influenced by emotion. I can't remember whether AR was elevating for a rebound or a shot (probably a rebound). Anyway, while AR's body was in the air, Thomas quickly put her right arm in position to lift AR's legs and simulateously put her left arm across AR's upper body, with her hand on AR's head. While lifting AR's legs, Thomas pushed down on AR's upper body and head, essentially flipping her upside-down. This forced AR to land on her head with momentum provided by Thomas' clearly intentional maneuver. I don't remember anymore whether, or what type of foul was called on the play, but this could have caused a neck fracture and potential paralysis (quadriplegia). Thomas should have received a multiple game suspension, but I'm not sure that she was even called for a flagrant 1 foul.

What exactly should these players wait for? Do they have to wait until they actually exceed the viewership of the NBA before they actually get paid decent money? As recent reporting shows, the difference in viewership between the NBA vs WNBA is not that much. Yet the current salary cap for NBA players is 100X more than the WNBA salary cap. Yes the WNBA loses money annually, but that is because of the horrible media rights deal. Should players be be punished because Silver screwed the league over with his horrible media rights negotiations?
Media rights revenue are where sports leagues make most of their money & how they turn a profit, esp where attendance is limited due to playing in arenas vs stadiums. This is why owners were so upset about WNBA losses this year. They were mad at the horrible job Silver did negotiating the latest WNBA media rights deal, despite their growth & huge increase in viewership.
The latest media rights deal for the NBA was $76B vs only $2.2B for the WNBA, despite the fact that NBA viewership has been decreasing since 2014 while WNBA viewership has been steadily increasing esp over the last 4 years (and of course it exploded when CC joined the league). The average viewership for regular season NBA games in the 23-24 season were only being 2.5X more than the WNBA 2024 season, yet the NBA media rights deal was 34.5X larger than the WNBA (the NBA have 1.7X more regular season games televised than the WNBA). And the early numbers on viewership for the NBA 24-25 season are down 40% from last year. So, as crazy as it may sound, it is possible that WNBA regular season average viewership will actually surpass the NBA next year. And when you factor in that the majority of NBA games air on NBC vs the majority of WNBA games airing on ION, that is even more impressive.
Now viewership of playoffs are still much better for the NBA vs the WNBA. But even those numbers are only around 10X more for NBA & have been decreasing for the NBA while increasing for the WNBA over the last 4-5 years. And if CC starts making it to the WNBA finals, that gap will be erased too. So exactly how can they continue to justify the huge difference in media rights revenue for the 2 leagues & therefore the huge difference in player income?

@@amyk6319 it's simple fam you stated, not turning profit. They didn't even turn profit this year and look how successful people think it was. Even if you wanted to to say they had a successful year, you can't go to the bank and ask for a business loan and show them 1 year of profits. They will laugh at you in your face. You at least need 3 years of consistency. I get it numbers have been gradually improving, but in all your statements you've said the nba numbers are better. That's just the truth behind it all. The wnba needs time to grow they are a way younger league than the nba. The wnba accepted the terms from Adam they shouldn't negotiated right then and there if they felt it was unfair. They didn't because they no leverage. They still have no leverage honestly. The new CBA deal will increase salaries but not by as much as they're asking for.

      @amyk6319 17 дней назад

@@flyhippieofficial Corporations don't live in the same world you & I do. Valuations & stock value are way more important than annual profits & WNBA as well as teams valuation have increased a lot over the last few years. That is why so many new teams want to join the WNBA. And the MLS is 3 yrs older than the WNBA & has never made a profit, but they still pay Messi $20M & all of their top stars have multi-million dollar salaries.
And the WNBA cannot turn a profit without a decent media rights deal. The NBA only makes a profit because of their huge media rights deal. Total attendance for the last regular NBA season was only 10X more than the WNBA was this summer. That is bad when you consider that the NBA has more than twice as many teams & play 5X more games than the WNBA does. When you adjust for the number of games, NBA attendance is only 2X more than the NBA.
And I have never said the WNBA players should be paid the same as NBA players, but it is ridiculous for their salary cap to be 100X less. And why should the players be punished because management did a crappy job handling the finances? I promise you the top WNBA executive have all gotten their raises & bonuses despite not turning a profits. Yes CC caused the major explosion, but the other players have done their job too. Attendance & viewership has been steadily increasing over the last 4-5 yrs. And CC can't get paid for all the revenue she is bringing into the league if you don't increase the salary cap either.

this leagues' dna was damaged from the git-go,,,it is an activism league first, then it wants to be a "Pro" sport league. Do all the activism you want after you get off the courts, play the game the right way when you are in between those lines and your revenue and popularity will increase. IMO!

I would love to hear how the players these players expect the league to stop making racists posts on social media. The more they keep bringing it up, the more they are encouraging the trolls. I don’t think for a second that there are fans at Fever home games shouting racist slurs at the players, if they were then they would be kicked out right away. The best thing to do is to stop reading social media or ignore the comments and they’ll eventually go away. The players have an inflated and unrealistic sense of their power to control the fans, and society in general.

I always find it funny when these women talk about values and integrity. Some great girls in this league but the majority are petty childish and ridiculous. No integrity no morals no values. Petty

It may be more like 20% are petty, jealous, lacking integrity, easily offended, etc., but THEY ARE by far THE MOST VOCAL (and have a stronger social media presence), SO IT SEEMS LIKE THERE ARE FOUR TIMES AS MANY of them out there creating drama when, in fact, the majority are very likable young women. It's pretty much like that in any large group of people. A fairly small minority of the people will hold the strongest opinions and, therefore, do most of the talking, while the "silent majority" rolls their eyes and goes on minding their own business.😄

I mean ok...but in men's sports there's a corresponding amount of domestic violence, for example, with pro athletes, and even moreso according to specific sports, like football. So, is it women, or is it that celebrity status and financial power cause a certain behavior or is seen as a free pass in our entire society?

@@sierrafrost1222 i don’t think anyone with half a brain looks at pro athletes as a moral compass or with integrity for the most part. They always get a free pass on everything and never punished when breaking the law etc. just because they can play football well or shoot a basketball. Heck- why so much effort and ridiculousness to get Bob (Brittany) Griner back but we leave a good man/Marine over there in Russia ??

Physical play /flagrant 1 and 2 amongst WNBA players is totally different then trolls threatening players off the court so trying to put malicious/intentional actions on the court in the same category as potential strangers threatening to harm you off the court not even close. The players are not scared of the hard and intentional fouls on the court.

These people lump CC fans in with trump people who were fans of white supremacy that THOUGHT they had an ally in CC that abandoned her the second they realized they didn’t.
The actual CC fans are all still here.
They are hiding behind this narrative to excuse their own racism of CC and hatred that a white girl is popular in their league.
If what they were doing was right they wouldn’t of been a charity their entire existence before CC got there. They were slightly growing but it was greatly exaggerated and wasn’t nearly what it was when CC played. They just can’t cope that they aren’t as good as they thought they were.
