lt would have been one thing if the CC vs Reese was hype to bring drama and eyeballs to league.Lots of stuff in sports is hype. But the legacy media, and the league worked to marginalize and put down CC. Among others when all of these attacks did not work, bubble turned to calling CC fans racist (and by implication CC). Next season probably see how rookie of the month was better than CC as a rookie.

The drastic media number increase this year made huge bucks for the networks but the WNBA got paid based on the numbers from a few years ago. The deal has already been made for the $60 million paid in media rights this year to go up to $260 million in 2026. The players are negotiating for 2026 and beyond not for the 2025 year. The $40 million loss this year has no problem going away when this one deal is $200 million more each year for the next 11 years. The teams collectively made about $90 million more in revenue this year in ticket sales than last year but that is team money rather than WNBA money. Caitlin is responsible for about $60 million of the $90 million increase ($40 million more for the Fever home games and another $20 million for increases in away games). This year’s loss and previous year losses have nothing to do with current player negotiating. I estimate total league revenues will go from $200 million last year to about $500 million by the end of the 2026 season. 10% revenue share (NBA is 50%) would mean an increase in pay by 2.5 times. Revenue has nothing to do with the NBA. We are talking only about money generated by the games these players perform. They generated the revenues and they won’t even get 5% of that if their pay isn’t reset in the new post Caitlin Clark period. 20% revenue share would be fair for a first straight revenue deal.
