You might want to give the property a once over with a metal detector. Its possible they buried some guns. If they put them in in a large PVC pipe or mortar tube or such you might find the guns you didn't find in the cabin. Because I sure as hell wouldn't leave them unattended in a building. You never know.

Absolutely. However a "Bunker" implies that it's underground or partially underground. This is not a bunker at all. It's more of a hunting shack or a wilderness shelter for when the previous owner(s) were doing work on the land. Something that was slapped together relatively quickly. Built around that stove.

This happens to me all the time when I buy an old vintage trailer. Many times the treasures are worth more than the trailer is. I once found $1500 in cash in an envelope back behind the stove in an old trailer. You just never know. $11k for 5 acres? That's a steal. Ya done good.

You guys make me smile ! By the way, I watched that ALONE "roundup" and they did feature a checker's game but not anything about Brook's effort in Mongolia (oh well). And so.... A 12/12 Truss roof over that cynderblock structure. Even with small scale tree stock (like an ALONE structure). Then either 6 ml ~ or better 10 ml, high carbon, greenhouse grade plastic. (I hope you haven't just "knocked down" your bunker.). The Bunker probably is fairly bear proof. ~~~ My "Tarp Mahal" (the neighbor calls it that) is 24/32 feet with a 18 foot peak, 10 foot ceiling truss with gambrel roof and girts made from political sign wire (lots of that here in New Hampshire). One inch /10' conduit with "fixtures." Then the whole thing is covered with 6 ml plastic made in Israel via a distributor in Cleveland. Cost was $500.00. 20 years so far with one roof layer added 8 years ago. Takes a two foot wet snow load. Anyway I pray you keep the "Bunker" and add to it. Best wishes ~ always.

I think the most valuable thing you found in that cabin was data. For example, will a sealed jar of peanuts last a really long time if I put them in a plastic bin? The answer is yes, as long as they stay sealed, they will outlast the building they are in. Does mouth wash that is sealed ever go bad? Not for many many years. Finding what will survive though the end of the world and what you have to keep always rotated and replaced is very valuable...though an old lever gun would had been cool to find, ha.

You should wrap those concrete walls with a thick foam board and lean a single plane roof to the South and add some southern exposed glass or lexan and have a small greenhouse along with the thermal Mass from all the concrete. Shutter the small bank of windows with rigid 3" or 4" thick foam board, opening it only when the sun is warming it up. Perhaps the new roof could extend far enough to keep the soil next to the house dry. With the proper insulation wrap you should be able to hold onto your heat much longer with an arrangement like that.

You just never know what is still hiding in that old building until it's all cleaned up. Look on the bright side, it has to be cleaned anyway. Sorry I don't get to watch ya'll as much lately. I packed up the whole famdamily and we moved to Idaho, lots of work restoring an old house and other fun stuff.

That will still be a perfect generator and fuel shed with a new pitched roof. If it's still filthy hose it down with the enamel paint . Paint makes everything new !
