You know what? I love Ashlyn Shade. I mean really. We haven't seen a freshman like her in I don't remember when; maybe ever. Even Paige, when she came out, was more goofy and trying to figure things out, although she's better at basketball than just about anyone. But Ashlyn? She's may be the best prepared of any freshman college student I have ever seen. Certainly she is better than I was, and I wasn't even trying to play a sport. I don't even mean about basketball, although she's certainly good at that. I mean mentally and physically prepared for whatever the future may hold. She's got the freshman disease; she fangirls and so forth. But she doesn't let it get to her.
Keep up the good work, Ash. I confidently predict you'll go far, whatever you may attempt.

I don't think Ashlynn is a better freshman than Paige was. Paige was exceptional in her freshman year, and no one is comparable to that. She was the leading scorer throughout the season and led her team to multiple wins including against South Carolina and Baylor in the Elite Eight.

@@20aindriabhisheksingh31 Yes, I agree. I said Paige was incomparable playing basketball. But Paige wasn't as mature-- remember her paddling Geno on TV?-- or as well adjusted. Ashlyn is tops.
Did you know she forsook her high school, despite being near-guaranteed a state championship win, and enrolled in a different school so she could get some practice in living by herself? True story.
That's what I was talking about. She is not as good a basketball player as Paige, and never will be. Paige is unique. But Ashlyn is better prepared for living life in all its aspects.

Paige was the best player in college basketball her freshman year. I'd maybe compare her to somebody else. That's not fair to Ash.

I agree [30 yrs now] her defense is extremely good -- I didn't like the drastic drop in her offense following her outscoring PB 6 games back -------------- her touches became real low on offense unless she got a rebound or steal - last 2 weeks she had a total of 10 shots --- this game 12 shots 1st 1/2 what maybe 2 or 3 2nd 1/2 ------------- the team play gets a tad "offensive" occasionally !!!!

Shooting gaurds are guarded close by some teams. Ash was guarded tight for a couple games. She missed a few shots and didn't get many points. Also, Geno was playing the 2 man game with Aaleya and Paige. UCONN needs those 2 to do that at times. Like the postseason. Ash will have a few low scoring games. Azzi did and Lou had a couple too.

One thing that hasn’t changed an iota since Coach Auriemma came to UConn, and that is the type of women recruited into our program. Their character is one of the reasons loves this team, and is one of the most dedicated fan bases anywhere.

The landscape in the woman college game has changed and UConn way of recruiting is flawed. This team is a second tier team with hyped players like Edwards, KK and Nikka even Paige isn't a top player on level that many others are on although she is closest to top level. UConns recruiting philosophy needs to change.

I don't see this UConn Team making it beyond the Elite 8. They will make it to the Sweet 16, but that's it. The reason is that Paige Bueckers isn't Diana Taurasi; instead, she's Paige Bueckers. Geno made a huge mistake forcing Paige into shooting too much. While it's hard to criticize a coach with 1,200 wins, he should never have brainwashed Paige into being a shooting then passing guard. Paige is a floor general whose premier delight is distributing the ball in a way that wrecks defenses. She'll give you 20 points per game, but she wants ten assists & seven rebounds to go with it. When she's in optimal operating mode, the shots she takes and makes are crucial to the annihilation of a top opponent's defense. Look for UConn's WBB to make it to the Sweet 16 and exit. Also, look for Dewberry & Ducharme to enter the transfer portal.
