  • DIY bucket hooks features tap-on tap-off convenience - (Shown on a Kubota BX). Made up from a pair of ordinary grab hooks, they are good for a temporary or a regular set of bucket hooks. Note: At 0:22 in the video you will notice that the grab hooks used are incorrectly labelled: The hooks used do Not have latches and they are Grade 70 not grade 30 as the label says.
This idea works great and is very convenient but it makes sense to be limit the load on the hooks to an appropriate level.

I'm getting a tractor this week and was wanting to use chains and hooks. This seems like a great idea without welding or drilling, and seems like it could be easy to do. Thanks for illustrating this.

I continue to use this idea with my BX. You will need to see if the hooks shown are suitable for your specific tractor bucket. Good luck.

Cool idea, I was afraid the hooks might bend the lip of the bucket. I know what I’ll be getting during my next trip to Princess Auto 😉 Great job 👍🏻

Thanks. Yes the demo rock was a heavy load and no damage. For anything extra heavy you can use another hook or two to spread the load along the top of the bucket.

Awesome stuff. I have one of those DR pull behind roto Tillers that has it's own engine and would sure love to pull it with my BX 1880 but it's to far to reach back and pull the two levers that raise it and engage the tines. I bet you could come up with a way of hooking it up to the 3 point hitch where it could be raised or lowered into the dirt without disengaging it each time. Thanks and love your videos

Thanks. That would be an interesting challenge re your rototiller. I'd need to know a fair bit more though to give any ideas that I might generate.

Just got my first Kubota L4200 no hooks. I just read a whole thread on tractor forum why you should not lift with chains off the FEL etc. raised many good points ( no pun intended). Made me re think the whole idea of welding hooks on bucket etc. I love this idea of yours! You pull it out as a specialty tool so to speak. When you use this you should be thinking of all the reasons they tell you not to lift with a chain on FEL of a Kabuto and how dangerous etc. My point here is that I plan on making up a set of these, I may never weld a hood on the bucket, and this type of set up better have you realy thinking of all the loads and ratings of every component used here. It would be east to do somthing stupid and an unexpected failure could be catastrophic thus be smart be carful and think about what you are doing ( keep bucket low to ground what if somthing lets go, work slow) ...... Safety stickers and manual say never do this with good reason, people, all of us do stupid things at times that is why I like that you only take this set up out when you need to and are thinking about all that could go wrong and better be working smart and laser focused.

Good thinking. As I type I am preparing a new set of videos on my "gas to electric" soil screener and in one of the videos I show how "my" hooks work for a particular operation on the front edge (blade) of the bucket rather than the top curled part of the bucket. Good luck and enjoy your new machine!
