Wooden Railway Reviews - 1999 James Goes Buzz Buzz Set

  • Here it is. The final one. I started writing (and even shot a little bit of) a review on Fred Pelhay in late 2015 and early 2016, not too long after I abandoned "The Last Review" for various complicated reasons. As time went on though, it became clear to me that the Fred review wasn't going to bedazzle anyone like my Sawmill review had. Worried it would just become another "skit with review" video that was becoming popular at the time, I went back to the drawing board and tried to figure out what item I could review other than the White Face Troublesome Truck. At some point, I remembered a set from childhood I only ever saw once (and a few times in the yearbook) that I had always wanted but never got: the James Goes Buzz Buzz Set. I then spent nearly a year writing a cinematic review and shooting 80% of it in 2017, between June (when I met up with four other TWR users) and December. I had planned to finish editing the video and have it uploaded by New Years Eve, but that didn't turn out as I planned. By early 2018, I decided to have the review done in time for the next TWR meet-up in June, but by then was heavily involved with writing The Magic Railroad Parody with Vinnie. I shot part of the review's ending with Vinnie in July, but spent the rest of the year and early 2019 writing and shooting the parody. By June 2019, with it weighing on me terribly, I finally decided the review needed to be finished in time for the next meet-up. After several all nighters and many cuts, I present to you my final and most personal review. It's crazy to think it all started nine years ago out of boredom and with no intention of it becoming a series. I can only say thank you to those who have been watching since June 2010 and to those who helped me complete this review almost 3 years after I started it.

    Dear Rob -
I have been watching your reviews from the very beginning and they’ve given me so much inspiration and joy during my time on RUclips. Your reviews are what made your channel so unique and enjoyable. They meant so much to me and everyone in the community. And after nine long years, no more just twenty reviews, you concluded your legacy with this; your longest and most awesome review.
And I have to say, wow; I’m so impressed with this and it was absolutely worth the long wait. I’m honestly quite surprised you originally chose Fred Pelhay of all characters to been your next review, and I’m glad you didn’t. Well you kinda but... only to make it clear why you gave up on it. The item that you chose in the end was a much better option considering that it meant a lot to your and that the James included was both mysterious and satisfying. I’ve always thought for the longest time that The White Face Troublesome Truck was going to be your last final and grand review. But you most definitely surprised all of us with what you chose in the end.
I like how you drove away from the review and into a plot hole just about rambling on about Home Movie VHS logos which I found rather remarkable. I mean, why do you think this video ended up being forty two minutes long.
The review itself brought back so many memories of your old reviews which was a real joy to behold. I was expecting you to do what you normally did and have the traditional music you use playing in the background as you briefly talked about the item. But instead, you did something a little different with the music. I believe that it was The Tugstar Intensifies who made that magnificent score for your review. But not only that, he took the existing theme and Thomasfied it! You must of been chuffed to of heard it the first time. The “Traumatising Episodes” that got you freaked out at the beginning was so hilarious and childish. I love it.
To sum up then, this review was probably the best out of everything you’ve ever done. From the cameos to the acting, and those very intended references, this was an excellent video to finish your journey. I wish you luck for the future and although it’s sad that your not around as much, the best days of you Channel will always be remembered in the community.
Have fun with that film with Vinnie!
    - James

You know, it’s funny to think I grew up watching your videos as well as watching others grow up right before my eyes on RUclips. And it’s been a wild ride seeing this crazy fandom have new people showing up thinking outside the box, and the older users showing their stuff with their classic content and even making amazing collaborations with people to make greater stuff! But this video really hit home for me mainly because this channel was the first channel that introduced me to Thomas Wooden Railway ironically. After watching one of your reviews, Rob, you opened this door I never could open, a whole range of other Thomas Content Creators. After seeing your channel, you made me grow up watching other TWR users like Keekre and EE93, the list goes on! This review really hit every bit of nostalgia, comedy, and just your review in their entirety. The skit at the beginning almost doesn’t feel like a skit but just as an overdramatized truth to how I sorta feel about Thomas. When I saw CaptainPunjabs Bachmann Thomas I just wanted HO so bad. And when I was old enough, I was hooked and loved Thomas again. What I’m trying to say is your video is just so great and enjoyable that it’s such a last hurrah. Everything was great, and the ending ironically got me choking up when you saying that you were gonna say your final thoughts, the drive to the US, and the reminiscing of 9 years. The cinematography, music, it’s great! But all that I can say is thanks man. I really appreciate it, and it’s an honor knowing you as Rob, and most importantly, Wooden Railway Reviews. Thanks man and good luck in that crazy old world, and can’t wait to see more of ya as Mr C in the TATMR Parody as a great sendoff too!

Absolutely amazing work, Rob. Hilarious, witty, and beautifully executed as always. You've always had this incredible knack for introspection and analysis of the community and our hobby in general, and that's fully on show here. You've influenced countless hearts and minds, my own included, with your comedic genius and astonishingly unique perspectives. You are a truly gifted actor, writer, and filmmaker, and you've been a massive inspiration to all of us. Thank you for being such a big part of what drew me to this community, from brilliantly made reviews to side-splitting live streams that were made great by your personality and charisma alone. I know you'll go on to accomplish even greater things, and bring your amazing talents to many, many more people. Thanks for everything, and best of luck!

Holy crap I'm really gonna miss these. I literally grew up with these and I remember coming back from school to watch the Aquarium Cars review. While most people's skits fall flat, I actually think the ones you have before your reviews are amazing. The joke well executed and masterfully shot. Thank you for the years of endless entertainment. The James Goes Buzz Buzz model is my all time favourite wooden railway toy, in fact he, is one of the models that I keep in this plastic box case to to keep in absolute mint condition so this had a very special place in my heart and what a way to go out. Goodnight sweet prince.

I'm 13 now but I remember single handidly building giant wooden Sodors in my room when I was four and three. God Bless my dad for spending thousands of dollars on those wooden trains. There is only a few sets and engines I don't have ( Though they are all in the garage as for the ones I have). Now I collect the Japanese versions of the TOMY trains from the 2000's. Thomas is the biggest part of my childhood,. I still watch the older shows. This did make me want to get collecting wooden railway again

@@nicholasblaschke246 I'll tell you a scary Thomas Episode
      It was from Season 6
      Thomas Percy and the Squeak
That's the one where Alicia Botti screams at a mouse
      And breaks windows
      The problem with that is
Alicia Botti's Screams are Loud, High Pitched, and due to Thomas being aimed at Preschoolers and Toddlers
It could make them get scared and start crying
      Sir Toppham Hatt should've said
Alicia its just a little mouse
Its not like its a Monster or a Bear
Instead of Rob reacting to the Thomas episode where Thomas falls off the track at 7:44
It would be cooler if he was watching Percy's Chocolate Crunch VHS
And he is tossing and turning on the couch and freaks out and wakes up and turns the pauses the tape
The episode should've been Thomas Percy and the Squeak and he reacts to how bad Alicia Botti's screaming is
Were they trying to traumatize kids?!
Thomas is supposed to be a Preschool Show
      Not a Horror Show
Plus it would be cool if that episode gets banned
      Like The SpongeBob Episode
      Mid-Life Crustacean did
