Great video, Ruth! @@ruthaisling Thank you very much for your reply, and I really appreciate your recommendation. It is exactly the kind of thing I love to watch! I am very happy to have found your channel. It inspires my travel dreams. :)
Speaking as an Islander, a very fair and accurate review. The biggest complaint with the boats are the cabins - which you have to book months in advance in the high season.....a nightmare if you have to travel at short notice
When we went just before Covid I booked our cabin on the day that booking opened, just to make sure. No matter how comfortable the pods are, I like to sleep in a bed.
Yup. I had a memorable crossing with three kids under 10 - all the other boats going south were cancelled, and we had to get to Edinburgh for a wedding as our daughters were bridesmaids. Because of the cancelled boats, it was packed to the gunnels, and the only clear space for a family of five to spend the night was right outside the bar. Never again!
Since I am seventy years old, probably I would never go to northern islands in Scotland so much far from Japan. But thanks to you, I could really enjoy the ferry trip for a while.
Loved the video Ruth, having also recently moved home from abroad, nice to see others also appreciating our wonderful wee country with a fresh perspective. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing your other videos!
Hi Ruth, I miss Scotland. Fantastic place to live. 20 years back, I converted a transit van into a makeshift home for a week & drove to Oban. I caught the 6.30am ferry to Mull & spent a week travelling around the island. I wanna see all the outer islands one day ❤
Hi Ruth! We really enjoyed your video. In September we will be ticking off a bucket list item when we return to Scotland and head to Shetland as part of our trip. 02:29, Go past the bridge stairs turn fight into the alley way and turn right again, and you're in the regent bar, proper old school folk but nice though 😊 my dad drinks their.😊
Sorry you had some seasickness. I've only done one overnight ferry, from southern Italy to Greece. Waking up to glorious sunshine and the stunning scenery of the outer islands is a memory I'll never lose. But I admit I'm envious of your Scotland trips. I've been once, many years ago, but it was a rushed trip as part of a music tour. In recent years, I've become a scotch enthusiast, so I want to spend a lot of time in Scotland. Loving this series.
I hope you come to Scotland soon!
@@ruthaisling sniff, sniff... was supposed to be there 10 days ago, but got Covid in February and postponed. I need to spend months and months, visiting all the distilleries and cycling.
We took the Northlink from Scrabster to Stromness. It was a rocking chair. Would like to go to Shetland
You should go!!
Wow beautiful trip ❤
My late mother lived in a village up near "Peterhead, in Aberdeen , I went to visit a few times.. Seems the surfing is good up there , we watched people out catching waves on one beach..
I liked it , from the peat cutting low lands to fly fishing rivers it's a good place to explore..
Thanks for sharing!
16:08 That looks like a good start of the day to me!
Lovely Ruth I am looking forward to your adventures in the Shetlands. It maybe worth mentioning that the Japanese love the lake district. You are beautiful and have a dual culture x
The Lake District is near where I am from... maybe I can visit sometime!
もうフェリーなんてワクワクですね〜楽しそうです!
