    RIP Don Perlin
    Moon Knight is on my list, but there are so many old comics to read. I've read the full run of WWbN. Moon Knight was created to be an antagonist to a Werewolf, hence the moon theme but his suit/armour was initially made from silver as well.

      I'll definitely consider it! After the Daredevil video comes out on Tuesday I'm planning on doing a couple DC related episodes then I'll pivot back to some more Marvel stuff. In the meantime, the original Ms. Marvel run from 2014 is fantastic! As for Iron Man, I'm actually pretty unfamiliar with most of his stuff except for the MCU and the bigger Marvel events like Civil War or Judgement Day. I enjoyed Superior Iron Man a lot tho!

      @@thebscrew I've heard similar disinterest in the Bemis run. Shame though, I did like the fleshing out of Marc's origins like his Nazi Uncle. Just a pinch more of childhood trauma, yaknow?. Sun King was a nice addition as a villian and rehabilitated ally. I was glad to see Marc be happy with his family, at least...for a bit.

    I personally prefer the original MK run by Moench. I believe that is the definitive version of the character. I am not a huge Bendis fan or anything he writes and I did not know about the Warren allegations when I read his run. However Declan's art is great.

    Dude, thank you so much for this video! I remember when I was a kid and got interested in Moon Knight because he was a "Marvel hero that has Ancient Egyptian mythology," and me being a Egyptian mythology nerd, read them. Then years later, I rekindled my love with Moon Knight with the "Shalvey" run and the Lemire & Smallwoods run. Absolutely loved them. And, even later, when the Disney+ series came out, and even though you didn't fully enjoy it, I still feel like it was a fun interpretation of the character.
    At first, I loved the character because he had some Egyptian mythology and he looked cool. But as of today, I absolutely love Moon Knight because of his storytelling and mental illness in his stories. I don't have DID like Marc, but how mental illness affects you and the relationships around you, really hits home for me. Moon Knight was a character I grew to respect with how much I would empathize with his character as I grew up.
    Now, I think I may have to get back into the comics again. Amazing video 👍 Keep up the great work!

      First off, thank you for the comment! I love hearing about how these characters effect other people's lives. While I may not have a long history with Moon Knight, the Lemire and Smallwood run really hit home with the messages about mental illness. And I'm glad you enjoyed this! This series is basically an excuse to gush about characters I enjoy lol

    Only clicked on this video on a whim, but I appreciate the thought and effort put into it.
    I'll admit that I'd only really read the Age of Khonshu storyline before the Disney+ series came out, as I'd been reading the Avengers run anyway, and found that story pretty fun even if ridiculous (actually, that's my take on a lot of Aaron's Avengers run - can be fun but isn't that great, little too ridiculous). At some point, I decided I didn't want to ruin my watch of the show by trying to binge comic runs and I think it was the right decision, as I had only a surface level knowledge of Moon Knight so I was able to enjoy whatever happened. I found the series interesting and often entertaining, even if it didn't quite live up to the possibilities. It does leave things in a state where a followup could be quite fantastic.
    More recently, however, I did start reading some of Moon Knight's solo runs. I started with Bendis' out of convenience, and found it "alright" - some interesting ideas, including the inclusion of Echo and some lower tier villains, but never quite clicking. I followed that up with the "Shalvey" run, which was a fantastic showcase of the street level hero in such an intriguing and enthralling manner, though I found the subsequent run written by Brian Wood a disappointing followup (also seems to take the doctor introduced in the preceding issues in a weird direction) but interesting nonetheless, while Cullen Bunn's issues ending that series were about on par with Wood (I found its plot less annoying, but it wasn't amazing). Moving onto Lemire's run, I'll admit that I was a bit skeptical with the first issue and especially as the first mini-arc wrapped up, but taking the entire run in left me dazzled and in awe. It also made the transition to the next run (in which legacy numbering kicked in) so frustratingly jarring, as the next writer (whose name I have forgotten) has a completely different take which seems to rely on some edgy humour and misunderstanding of things like DID to just wanting things to be "badass", though it had some redeeming ideas (the overall story has some interesting concepts, even if I wasn't a big fan of its execution). This video does make me eager to read the current run, though, so thank you.
    Having read the "Shalvey" and Lemire runs especially, I can now understand why you (and others) are so disappointed with the Disney+ series, even if I still don't feel the same way.

    • @thebscrew
      @thebscrew  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much for watching! I understand why people like the show. If you don't know the highs of Moon Knight's best runs the show is probably pretty good! Personally tho, as you said, the Shalvey and Lemire runs are just SO good that it makes if hard to not be dissapointed with the shows interpretation.

      @@thebscrew I was able to read about a dozen issues of the current run over the weekend, and you were right: it is absolutely fantastic. A nice blend of street level heroing mixed with supernatural elements, interesting character writing, and enthralling plotlines. Each issue works very well episodically, but also as part of a longer storyline. Might be my favourite Moon Knight run yet (of what I've read, at least)

    I like the show's version of giving him powers vs. "Marvel Batman" (I give that to Daredevil anyway). Wish they didn't have to change the alters so much, but they did it very damn well anyway, which changing the source and still being well done is rare in adaptations.
