A rich and lovely version of this well-known piece! The choir was absolutely up for it, and the organist as steady as could be. There are so many versions of this beautiful hymn, but a good choir is really what I always look for, and this one more than satisfied my yearning to hear it. Thank you!
I sang this with my choir at the wedding of a friend's daughter. Singing it is every bit as moving as hearing it. I think everyone had tears in their eyes by the end. Bach is sometimes tough but wonderful and uplifting music to play and sing.
This was my wedding processional music. Our church choir sang it. I still cry every time I hear it. The choir also sang the communion mass that my dad wrote when our church was dedicated. What a lucky girl I am.
No he is NOT. Jesus is God. Have you heard about the Trinity? ONE God, three ways to present Himself. God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. :)
Thank you to all of the musicians whose love for the sacred in this masterpiece was heard, felt...and thoroughly enjoyed. And another thank you for providing us with the longest version of it on youtube! Your performance more than doubles the pleasure I feel each time I listen to it. You've helped to make this writer's spirit---and not a few others---genuinely brighter. Merry Christmas to one and all!
Jesu, joy of man's desiring, Holy wisdom, love most bright; Drawn by Thee, our souls aspiring Soar to uncreated light. Word of God, our flesh that fashioned, With the fire of life impassioned, Striving still to truth unknown, Soaring, dying round Thy throne. Through the way where hope is guiding, Hark, what peaceful music rings; Where the flock, in Thee confiding, Drink of joy from deathless springs. Theirs is beauty's fairest pleasure; Theirs is wisdom's holiest treasure. Thou dost ever lead Thine own In the love of joys unknown.
Thank you so much I listened to this played by the Morman Tabrnacle Chior while going through a hellish experience month after month it saved my life .Never heard the words though sincere thanks.
This is a perfect recording do rich, blended and punctuation perfection. The organ is beautiful and not haring off. O used to love singing this in my choral days. Didn't at my choral master's daughter wedding. He paid us well for it. We only rehearsed once so it was nerve wracking!
This is the English version attributed to Robert Bridges (1844 - 1930), not a translation of the German stanzas but inspired by the same hymn that Bach had utilized ..... Theirs is beauty's fairest pleasure, theirs is wisdom's holiest treasure. Thou dost ever lead Thine own in the love of joys unknown. [ Wikipedia, "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" ]
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Tonight (April 12), I attended a wedding at my church. This was played when the Processional Cross was brought in and also during the lighting of the altar candles.
I am in love with this piece. I'm also going to be singing this solo in College towards my AA in Music.for Voice/Guitar hopefully I can work it together and after, my fourth Semester Graduate 🎓 and do Guitar on Electric N also major in Guitar afterwards.
Beautiful richness to the voices, and great bass component. One minor criticism: occasionally the organist lapses into a slightly uneven 'lilt' in the 9/8 timing, but not a huge deal
Jamie, in case you get a chance to read this message from the above fine performance, Mom and I also noted your youthful physique and firm tone. You look healthy James. Tina looks great as well. Mom was of course very happy to see you, Sean and Katie. Mom just hadn't spent a close up with Katie. Anyway, insomnia. The Wilde de prfounus is interesting. Michael
Here you can listen to a very similar sounding slavian chant from the former USSR, its the wonderfull old hymn of the Latvian Republic (sadly almost forgotten) : ruclips.net/video/N5_cYnOKGSY/видео.html

it. I still cry every time I hear it. The choir also sang the communion mass that my dad wrote when our church was dedicated. What a lucky girl I am.
I'm from Minas Gerais, Brazil. I think that just one Name would be able to inspire this: the Jesus' Name. The Name that is above all name.
God is above jesus I think

Great work guys. Brings back memories of school. Our music master used to play in chapel every morning
Very beautiful singing and organ playing
The male voices come through so beautifully clear. Love hearing them.
There is a most sublime organ and choir version I heard on the radio way back in 1984. To this day I have not been able to hear it again.
Good ole JSB ....church organist by day , erstwhile musical genius

Great balance. God bless.
Wonderfully balanced presentation by so young a choir.
Beautiful young people praising Our Lord Jesus as only the Great Bach can do

Heard this at the Traditional Latin Catholic Mass yesterday. Very emotionally moving.
We heard this piece tonight in English. And as beautiful as it was, it was not as wonderful as this performance. It's always inspiring.

Absolutely superb.

Man's desiring can know little more than Jesu
Very relaxing and different from today's music
─ Ashley Mangum, Period 2
HERMOSO... MUY HERMOSO.
Terrific! But why does the choir turn the page after singing "Jesu, joy of ..." - couldn't they remember three words?
No.
@FERNANDO Well you can tell the organist is not highly experienced; his tempo is uncertain. He probably just sightreads.
flawless!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Pretty much refined voices. Organ playing was excellent.
