My container-grown Gem just did this and i started getting worried! It looks like your Lamb Hass in terms of flower set. It just started pushing some new leafy growth out, so I won't worry too much now. Thanks Jeff!

Thank you so much for your video as I was wondering about this exact same behavior that I am experiencing with my Mexicola Grande variety....the tree has flowered crazy this year and we are seeing several fruitlets on it for the first time. The tree started shedding a lot of leaves for the last month or so since it started setting the fruit + a bunch of yellow leaves. I have done one round of fertilization already and was planning to do in about 3 weeks again.
This tree was purchased from a nursery and has been in the ground for about 2.5 years now; about 5 ft tall with a lush canopy even during the winter. It bloomed heavily last year as well but sadly not a single fruit made it to the finale. Just like you stated in your video, I am also seeing a bunch of new growth coming from the tips which makes me so much happy.

Great video and explanation, Jeff. Totally makes sense that a young tree can handle all those flowers, fruits and leaves while they are young.

Haha to be honest when my young plants drop all their leaves here it probably means they are going downhill 🙄. My Mexicola Grande looks rough here and i havent even disturbed it in its original pot yet 🤪

My potted Carmen lost all of its leaves when I brought it in for the winter. Big mistake as it clearly went into shock. I am amazed at its resiliency though, as it is producing leaf flush from some pretty mature wood.

@@TropicalGardenGuy another question for you. My Reed has just recently set fruit. What size should I wait for the fruit to be before I start taking budwood from the tree? Golf ball?

I have a Malama that is behaving like your Carmen. It went from tons of fruit to maybe 10 now. The tree is grafted at 7 foot and bushy.
This is the 3rd year it fruited and possibly aborted. The tree is healthy and the leaves are coming back but I would like to Maintain some fruit.
I’m hungry!!!! Would culling the fruit at bb size put less stress on the tree and provide more fruit? Or is it just a game of patience?
    Thanks

Is your Giant or Cannonball 3 grafts or 1 graft ? It's looking good, more bushy than my largest Cannonball in the ground and I've got more canon planted in my orchard, I think your correct for cannonball to take longer than average to throw flowers. I can't imagine a 3 pound fruit trying to set on a tiny branch.

There’s three grafts on the wilma rootstock.
Also on my main multi graft tree I have three grafts and two of them are holding a couple of fruitlets

No flowers for my Giant/Monster/Cannonball this year hopefully next spring, I have a new variety call a foothills giant from a grower up by Marysville CA, it's from a gem seedling but fruit is bigger than a gem and tree is bigger than a gem tree.

I have several avocado trees in pots that I started from seed. Will they ever produce fruit? I had one that was 3yrs old and just lost all its leaves. I think it is dying? 🤷‍♀️ anyway any tips for potted trees?
