    I have a 12 year old avacado tree that I bring in each winter. It’s about 10 feet tall. I would suggest pruning your tree just above the bottom 3-4 leaves. It will seem drastic… however your tree is way too tall and skinny. When you cut the top of the tree, it will signal that the tree needs to grow a thicker trunk, and most importantly branches. Don’t wait much longer to do this. I start pruning my trees after just a year. Sometimes less. Great video!

      I agree. A 6 months old would die at 12 degrees. In the case the problem is the limescale in the water you may be able to was out the salts from the roots by replacing the soil/compost you use.

    I agree with everything you said, however, the over watering is better described by using the wrong soil. If your soil drains well, you can water often. If they are planted in pots, that doesn't drain well, they will not survive. If they are in the ground, and it cant drain well, they will get root rot and die. If the tree is generally happy and healthy in a warm climate, they react well to the correct fertilizers, from a young age.
    Nice channel bud.

    • @howtogrowfromseed
      @howtogrowfromseed  9 месяцев назад +2

      Nice add on my friend. I agree with your additions, the soil type has an influence with the root rot problem. WIth regard to the fertilizer, from when the tree reach a age of 3/4 years I have found it to have a positive impact. But for younger ages it has higher probability to burn the leaves.

      Hi Steven, take advantage of the mild winter south Spain has (except Granada) to get the plant outdoor for higher humidity.After about 3/4 weeks you'll start to see an improvement in the quality of the leaves. Bear in mind that you may need to wait for next spring to see the new leaves as the plant most probably will go dormant during the winter. I hope this helps.

    Is my plant fighting death with constantly sprouting new leaves?

      I understand your situation, it is not easy with the winter already here. You can try to have it in the toilet as a last resource, will it miss the sunlight or do you have at least a window in that toilet? When it is above 0 celsius and outdoor it is humid/rainy, put it outdoor. Are you able to get some rainy water and water it with that? Or use a brita or a filter maybe?

    My trees did the same thing. Then died. No fertilizer. Just soil from my compost pile where the seed germinated. I live in northern Missouri--Winter temps in the teens. 90 deg to 100 in summer. I kept it in a heated garage in winter, and kept it watered (too much?). But this year, leaves turned brown and fell off. Tree died.

      @howtogrowfromseed I'm in SW Europe in a "subtropical" zone so we get very mild winters and very long, humid summers. We are in summer currently. It won't rain again for months but the humidity will stay above 70-80% (I'm on a small peninsular so surrounded by sea 😄). Inside the house humidity is usually higher because you have the humidity from outside, plus all the evaporation from people, plants, pets, kitchens, bathrooms etc. I don't have air conditioning in the kitchen (where the avocado is) either.
      The sun is quite strong in the afternoons, maybe it is actually sunburned? But the leaf feels soft even though it looks "burnt" so I was sceptical it could have dried up. I'd expect it to be crispy if it was sunburned but it's curled, brown and soft. Maybe I overwatered it?
      I'm not fertilising it at all since it still has its seed to take nutrients from, but I do give it tap water. I could try giving it distilled water instead?

    • @howtogrowfromseed
      @howtogrowfromseed  Год назад

    must be for decorative purposes, as you're not going to get edible avocado grown from seed.
    forget water filters or missing out on fert, you need perfectly draining medium (coir, not bark based) that you can regularly overwater to flush salts. it happens with all pot plants. they do need fert, and salts build up if you only water just enough.

    Too much sunlight? Haven’t seen an avocado farm in shade yet. Bringing it indoors , really. Again haven’t seen any indoor avocado farms.

    Funny i don't quite understand this over watering thing. Mine are literally sitting only in water for over 2 years now & they are fine. I also now have them on the bathroom window sill where it gets plenty of humidity.
    When the water level in the jars go down i just top it back up with fresh tap water.

    Where did you get that info don't fertilizer the first 3yrs I have fertilizer avocados trees after 3months n never had no issues so that's incorrect info

      Hi Jose, some experts recommend not fertilizing avocado trees in the first year. After that, use a balanced citrus tree fertilizer, and follow manufacturer instructions. However, in my experience up the three years the fertilizer may burn the leaves, conservatively after the third years the tree and its root system is strong anough to take on all that salt.

    It's normal the leaves fall out

  • @JaySkunkWorks

    If what you say is true then all of your avocado leaf would show the same symptoms. But not all of your leaves show the same symptoms. Why? Please take a look at my video “do you have burn avocado leaves”where I put the leaves under a microscope and you see the difference between a healthy leave in a burn leaf . I think you will find the answer very interesting and there is a solution to fix this.

    What a video doesn’t make sense at all

      Hi Ryan, I really appreciate your time for watching the video. We would all learn something maybe if you could expand on why it "doesn't make sense at all"?

    • @sampsuns
      @sampsuns Год назад

      @@howtogrowfromseed You just list every issue a tree could die from. But not all of them could cause leaf turning brown. For example, overwater will not turn leaf brown, if you ever seen any overwater plant

    • @howtogrowfromseed
      @howtogrowfromseed  Год назад +2

      What would then be the first sign of overwatering a plant? If you google this: "first sign of an overwatered plant" what does come up?
