Hey REM! Good to hear from you. Your trees are looking good, and the ones that are flowering are amazing. Lots of production on the way. I just finished RE-white washing my avocado trees and am going to be moving them to a shadier spot for the summer. It just got too hot for them last year, and I am starting a remodel of our house in a couple of weeks, so I need to clear out some space for the bobcat that will do some of the demolition. Once the construction is done, I will be planting the avocado trees in-ground. Can't wait! I see you are watering your trees now. My ground is still quite wet from the heavy rains, and there is more rain on the way. I gave the avocados a lite feeding 3 weeks ago, and they look good so far, and their pots (15 gal and 25 gal) are still quite damp. When do you think you'll start feeding your trees this season?
Feeding them now is on the list of to do's. I should have done them in January of this year but it is OK, they say that monthly light fertilizing is OK when they are young then every 2 months then 4 times a year. I do it when I can, should plan it better but trees are doing just fine. I plan to turn the water off and until after the rains and the soil dries out to turn it back on. I ran it just to test it but I've had it running when it was still wet, didn't hurt them but a little wasteful since the rains...good luck on the remodel, I have some big plans this year for a BBQ area, need to get going on it too. Thanks for watching!
@@AvocadoTalk oh yes it's a paint to pick it. It's in my new house I bought almost two years ago. When I first moved in it had some fruit, but last year was horrible not sure what happened. I'm hoping this year will be much better.

My Jim Bacon just hasn't done much unfortunately. It might be where I have it which is close to some eucalyptus. I've had it in the ground for 2 years and I've gotten one fruit so far and unfortunately an animal got to it before I could enjoy it. It's still small so maybe once it gets older and a lot more mature kind of like yours it's going to start to get better I hope.
Hi Lee, trees looking good. Glad you showed your other fruit trees. Which true npk do you use on your avocados and how often? I just bought 10-2-8. Thanks
@@1cleandude thanks I agree it's impressive but I'm bias. 😂 I'm in Southern California, Riverside, Corona, Norco area. Knowing what Reed fruit looks like, I'm sure they aren't Reeds. Hass are excellent so I'm not too upset. Thanks for watching!
@@AvocadoTalk Thanks for your reply! I live in south Louisiana and I have killed 11 avocado trees in the last three years! Two from cold and nine root rot! I’m trying to revive my last two and I’ve changed my soil mix to what Gary with Laguna Hills nursery recommends.
Trees are looking awesome. Just curious what you have been feeding them lately and have you notice a difference with different types\brands of fertilizers?
I haven't really noticed any differences between some of my fertilizers that have used, but lately I've been trying to switch it up and do different types of fertilizers. So no big noticeable differences so far but if I do notice something I'll definitely mention it. To be honest, I haven't been applying that much fertilizer 2 years ago I applied it three times, last year i applied it once and this year so far I haven't applied any. I have some trees that I feel seems to be falling behind so my plan for this year and probably this coming weekend is to apply a chicken fertilizer and a TRUE organic fertilizer. Thanks for wanting!
Actually no, it was from the old La Verne before they got bought out. Miss labeled as a Kona. Turned out to be Jan Boyce, nice surprise. I hope my Gwen starts flowing soon. Thanks for watching!
Hi REM thanks for update. What sprinklers you using in that tree? I need to switch over from fan sprayers and hand watering. Everything flowering up here in Bay Area. Hass tasting great right now
Hello my friend. I use micro sprays and spinners. Micro spray I recommend is "Antelco Adjustable Vortex Sprayer": amzn.to/3TijKAX On the Zutano it was Antelco 360 Degree Adjustable Spinner: amzn.to/3kAOfzC These have good adjustability to fine tune the right radius for each tree. Going to be a great year for all of us.
We were growing 5-6 varieties of Cherimoyas on a micro climate property in the Menifee Valley in 1995-2003. Only way to get anything other than a rare fruit was to hand pollinate. PITA for me but worth it for the Wife...
I've thought about getting more cherimoya, Brokaw has a couple of different varieties available. Yes the pollination is a pain... I think more mangos first.
Just found you site. We have a Carmen(Haas) and the clusters are crazy with flowers just starting to pop here and there. We live in Sacramento and bought it from a grower in SanDiego during a visit down south. Where are you approx.located?
Looks like you're going to have a bumper crop this year. Do you ever prune your trees or just let them do their thing? It looks like your avocado trees don't drop their leaves when they bloom. Almost all of mine (in containers) go bare and look very funny. Full of blooms with no leaves until the new growth fills in.
Some of my trees do that when they bloom heavily, they put all their energy into flowing and drop leaves. I noticed that they tend to drop more leaves in containers. My Carmen did that one year, no leaves then new growth came in. I plan to top my trees, don't want them to get too tall and hard to access fruit. I'm finally at the stage when they are big enough and need a good topping. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I have got two Hass avocado tree, they are blooming so many flowers, I hope the winds don't blow them away. I do have a question, what kind of fertilizer is good for them? I have got Vigoro citrus and avocado fertilizer but not sure that is good enough.
That fertilizer works, although it's not extremely hot, check the soil, if it's bone dry you might want to water them. Also make sure you keep as much of the leaves as mulch as possible, it breaks down and the worms will make it the best fertilizer. Congrats you got flowers hopefully you get some fruit, good luck!
@@AvocadoTalk Thank you for the reply. I do water them every other day, and the ground is covered with mulch and leaves so it isn't dry for sure. If they were seedlings then grafted with Hass then you will get Hass fruit relatively quickly. (2-3 years). If they were just seedlings from a Hass avocado tree then it will take a lot longer, in some cases 10+ years. Also the fruit may or may not be good tasting , that is the risk with growing avocados straight from seed. The key word is grafted, most growers will sell trees that are already grafted.
