So, unsuitable for research but is it good enough to look through? Or is it totally useless? If I win the lottery, what kind of funding would you need to bring it up to snuff?
Schmidt cameras are not designed as visual instruments. A photographic plate is positioned at the point of focus inside the instrument; No place to put an eyepiece for viewing. There are other technical reasons why such a fast instrument is not suitable for visual use. It is stated it can have a coude focus arrangement which will divert the image out the side of the telescope/mount with added mirrors but this is usually for other specialized equipment like a spectrograph.
Hey even the Hubble was blind when launched and needed specs to work. Not everything pans out as expected when making telescope mirrors.
Very nice telescope.I hope it can be put to use with CCD, after some modifications.
And I think the earth and moon are spinning the wrong way at 4:20
In the Orrery the Earth is spinning backwards and the Moon is orbiting the wrong way around the Earth.

Some videos and pictures of the telescope instead of the lady talking would be nice.
