@@twm1452 My club The Astronomical Society of Las Cruces founded in the early 1950s, Clyde Tombaugh was a founding member. Anyway we have two club observatories one with a 14" Meade SCT and the other with a 16" Meade in roll-off observatories in two state parks. One is just out of town in Bortle 4 to 3 and the other is in City of Rocks State Park and Bortle two. Largest scope in the club is owned by a couple with a CDK 700 Plane Wave for NEO searching. The two Meades were gifts from NMSU Go Aggies, to the Club. Problem with the Yapp scope is moving it. Would need a grant with significant amounts of money to move it to better seeing conditions and build a dome for it.

Merry Christmas to you all... I used to stay with Dylis & Richard Bingham....( Playsters Farm) Trugg Baskets ...Marino sheep... And I loved Dylis so much . Of course she used to work/assist at The Observatories, To be honest I have no idea exactly when or the year .... I just think very highly of both Dylis & Richard.... I stayed with them in 2006. However, I am living in Cheshirer now ( Joddrell Bank lol ) I love The arcutecture of the science centre in Herstmonceux. Next time I am down that way I will have to nip and say hello,,,, If anyone of the team sees any of the Bingham family... Just say. "Collette & Jessica " big Love xxxxxxx

Mostly reflectors of such aperture are seen. Saying "a 20" refractor" would make people think you're stupid. That is a very impressive telescope. Does a refractor like that have advantages over a reflector?

Ohhh an awesome refractor. I would really like to try that one, I bet it is better than the 24 inch at the Lowell observatory. At 2:03 you say you can take picture of the same part of the sky "say 6 months apart". Will it not be daylight in one of the pictures unless the stars are circumpolars.

    • @ObservatorySci

Hi Ortondal, The photographs wouldn be taken at different times of the day. For example we would photograph one star a star in March a couple of hours after sunset when it is visible above the western horizon after the setting sun. In September we can photograph the same star a couple of hours before sunrise when it is visible above the eastern horizon before the rising sun. It would be a problem if we tried to photograph the stars when then are in opposition or conjunction with the sun but we pick times of the year when they are at 90° to the sun. Jarvis (Astronomer at the Observatory Science Centre)
