A Spoon Leaf Sundew is a carnivorous plants. I got mine at Logees and it seems to be growing and doing great. Its doing so well I thought I should give it a bigger pot so it can spread out easier. Come check out my Drosera Spathulata.

Hi! I read that these plants like very soft water without minerals, so if the spring water you’re using has a lot of minerals you might want to switch to distilled or rain water :)
You're doing good. These are several plants. You could also have separated it into a few clumps to place around and catch more fungus gnats. It would do fine. The flowers dry and set minute seeds which will grow into more plants, so if you don't cut it out, you can just crush and sprinkle dried flowers in the pot to get more plants. You can also stick the cut flower stalks into the pot or lay it on the surface to grow more plants from it. You can gift the extra plants or simply place them in more places to catch more gnats.
If you place these in brighter light, they will go red and get more sticky and can get really pretty.
I wish I knew about the flowers and seeds. I clipped them all off and trashed them already. So the flowers don't need to be pollenated to make seeds? I will also try to split them up next year. At the time I was a little scared because this plant seems so fragile. Thank you so much for your helpful tips.
Got Plants? Drosera spatulata will self pollinate and produce lots of seeds. They are tiny - you'll need a magnifying glass to see them properly. Newly sprouted plants are tiny too. But I normally don't bother to harvest seeds properly unless I'm selling them. I just let the flowers dry totally and crush the whole flower over suitable medium. But for storing, it is better to separate the seeds - the dried flower parts can get mold and such.
Also a good idea to store some seeds - even if you don't sell/give away. You will have to collect them from the tiny flowers carefully - doing this on a white paper helps. You can then fold the paper into a packet or put them in small zip lock bags - HUNDREDS of seeds will look like a pinch of dust - this is normal.
If you have seeds saved, you will be able to grow the plants again, if something happens to these. They should stay well for a few years even if you store them dry and clean - on the cool side.
Ok will try to save some next time they flower. Can’t wait to try it out.

From Mrs Abbie so far so good. I think the bigger pot is helping the plant. Some leaves are turning brown but I think it’s because I didn’t keep it moist enough. Will need to remember to always keep it wet.
I have a pitcher plant now that’s about three years old, I was hoping you weren’t going to put in dirt. I put mine in spagnum moss and charcoal and perlite. I think you did good there, I know you can’t let them dry out either. They do a great job catching bugs, cool plant, good luck!
Good thing I just used the moss. I’m trying to remember to keep it moist. Will need to get something to keep humidity in for the winter.
The choice of substrate really depends on your climate and/or climate/substrate the plant is acclimated to. Some do better in just sphagnum moss, others do better in a sandy mix with peat, some mix of all along with perlite, etc. Some are more prone to rot using sphagnum moss only if you're in an already warm and humid climate without a lot of airflow. My carnivorous plants did so well in the spg moss for years until I moved and after a few months I ended up having to change substrate because of rot issues due to the humidity in my home and improper circulation. There is really no one way or substrate, as long as its inert and you use water with very low tds.
So I don't use any dirt if I want to repot mine? Only this Moss right?
I separated mine today. Some don’t have roots and I’m hoping they grow roots and not die because I love my droseras but just wanted a aesthetic clean look. I thought the clump was unkind to look at. Do they regrow roots when separated or did I just off my plant ? Please help
Carnivorous plants need acidic soil and below 50ppms that you can check with a TDS meter. Recommended mix are pure sphagnum peat moss no additives or fertilizers, perlite and/or horticultural coarse silica sand, must be watered with distilled water, reverse osmosis or rain water. I have my drosera’s outside in full sun so they can produce plenty of dew (sticky glue that traps the insects), if it’s lacking sunlight it will look green.

Hey your Spatulata looks amazing but I would recommend that you water with Reverse Osmosis or Distilled water, and Rain Water works aswell. Bottled water and Tap water isn’t good for carnivorous plants due to minerals in the water that can burn the roots.
Daniel Rodriguez yeah that’s what I’ve read and heard. I’ve tried rain water but when I don’t have that the tap water used doesn’t seem to harm it. Well at least that’s my experience. I will try to not use the bottle waters as much anymore.
Got Plants? You can always get a TDS meter and test the water if anything, just make sure the PPM is below 50.

A little part of it did die back after repotting but it’s doing great now. ☺️💚🌱
I'm new to the carnivorous plant scene
1.) Do filter jugs make sense?
2.) Is sundew from a filter jug healthy?
3.)What should you pay attention to when buying a filter jug?
4) Which is better Dafi or BRITA?
5) I was told that boiled and cooled water is good for sundews. Can anyone confirm this?
6) Should we hand feed them at some point? as the domes are closed at the seedling stage to maintain humidity and prevent insects from entering.
7._Should we open the dome every few days to get some fresh air?
8.) I wish, I thought. catching rainwater. ?
9.) I wish, I thought. catching water from snow?
How long do these plant live?..i have this type of drosera and now they are so tiny..and theyre growing so close together..
If you take care of them correctly they can live for a very very long time. If they going closer together and need more space to grow you can repot them. 💚🌱
Help.... I’m having a problem with fungi gnats right now, my husband is not happy 🤨. I’m trying apple cider vinegar & a drop or two of dish soap with old apple slices in a mini water bottle with strips of tape to only have a small opening. Not much luck with that method. I did find some sticky paper traps, just put those out today. How do you know which plant has the gnats. It’s a mystery to me. Most of my window sill plants are succulents, a few house plants have all been reported with new soil so I’m baffled 🤪 who/which plant is producing the gnats 😈. Did you put the mosquito killer pieces in all your plants? Does any other insecticide spray help with getting rid of the gnats w/o hurting my plants? I probably should take my newest plants and wash off all the old original soil and repot with fresh soil again, I just hate disturbing the plants that are already potted. Some plants get stressed so easily 😵. Chat me back if you have and more helpful hints. Appreciate your vlogs 💜
My husband complains about theses fungas gnats ALL the time too. LOL. The infestation in my house used to be bad but it has now been controlled...Not completely gone tho...but much better than when there was like 3-4 of them flying into your face. I've tried everything but what I find most useful is...
#1) Don't water plants as much. Keep them on the drier side. These gnats likes wet soil...and that's where they lay eggs. Usually when one plant has them all of your plants will have them. The gnats fly so they can lay eggs everywhere. So this is a reason why repotting might not be useful.
#2) Yellow Sticky paper. I really like these. I've done a review on the once I've used. I've added a link in my description box if you wanna check them out.
3) Of course owning one of these carnivorous plants is helpful too. I have this sundew and also butterwort and I always see little bugs in them.
#4) Neem Oi spray (I want to use something natural so I use the Pure oil ones only). I dilute it in water (some people might add some soap into this mixture). My sisters uses this method and introduced it to me. It helps...and not just for Fungas Gnats but for other pest too. Only problem with this is that it SMELLS!! You have to be careful on how much you use it and on what types of plants. If you use it outdoors make sure you use it is in the evening or on a cloudy day because it's more prone to burning your plant if it's too sunny because of the oil.
I've also purchased Mosquito bites which other youtubers recommends. I dunno if it really works or not but since I've already purchased such a big bottle of it I sometimes use it when I water my plants or just add it to the soil when repotting. You mention apple cider vinegar and soap...that's one method that I tried that NEVER worked. I don't think I ever caught one gnat in that. I have better luck just leaving a cup of regular water.
One good thing is gnats do not damages your plants...They are only annoying to have flying around. If you find a good method to get rid of them please let me know too. We are all battling with Gnats...😐

My drosera got rotten roots can Someone help
So sorry...I haven't dealt with root rot for this particular plant but try cleaning out the dead parts and replant on clean medium and hopefully it would reroot. Gluck!

Drosera spatulata is very stressful to repot because of their small size and abundance of leaves lol

If you break any leaves off. You can propagate it.

I actually tried cider vinegar. That’s one thing I couldn’t get to work. Haha dunno why the ones I have flying around aren’t attracted to it.
