I gotta say: JL has never disappointed me.. for almost 30 years now… I’ve seen and rise and fall of many manufacturers.. jl has always been consistent and quality
I just bought a pair of JL Audio C1-650x and a pair of JL Audio C1-650 component speakers. I've installed the 650x's and they sound amazing! I'm waiting on some Tesa tape and some foam sheets so I can install the component speakers and do some rudimentary sound treatments. I also upgraded to an aftermarket head unit and added a 50 watt RMS mini-amplifier. What a difference an amplifier makes. I've owned a lot of car stereo speakers in my life, and the JL Audio speakers beat everything I've ever used by a mile. I've had German-made MB Quart, Alpine, JBL, and Pioneer. The JL Audio blows by them like they're standing still. They're as good in the car as my indoor sound system is in the house. Thank you for the deal with Crutchfield! I was able to get everything I needed with a good discount!
@@chrismejia4661 Yea, if your willing to strip out the old equipment whenever you decide to get a new car. I personally try my best to leave most of the stock wiring and connectors in my car for the next owner.
The JL C7 Woofers are epic! Had them in my car with the C7 Tweeters as 2-way setup. The mid can play up to 8Khz with no struggle at all. And the mid punch is unbelievable! Tweeter isn't the best seen on the market. Replaced the tweeter with Audison's Thesis Violino II. Was a dope setup!
Thanks for the tweet recommendation, I just bought a camry with 44 thousand miles looks like it was taken care of and I haven't had a system in a very long time so I think I want to go out and put something nice. Not crazy but nice
I have these now in my truck and not very convinced with the tweeters either, I feel like changing it fit a 2.5 full range that reaches over 16k hertz and provides reacher midrange Very pleased with the mids through their whole range
@456Pegasus1 just so I'm sure I'm following along did you by any chance install the C7 6.5 speakers? If so what do you think and were they on sale 🤞 😊

Total commitment and total quality through and through! Don’t have to sell these. They sell themselves! 1st rate Mark! Keep it up!👍🏻
I have been waiting for someone to do a full in depth look at these as I want these in my next DD build. I watch all of your videos so I’m glad you are doing this review. I have been into car audio for 15 years and I’ve learned so much from your channel in the last years it’s nuts. Great job as always and thanks !!

Spendy would be an understatement. You're essentially looking at roughly $2500 for all 6 speakers. At least through Crutchfield. This price range puts these speakers into upper tier products from the likes of Hertz, Focal and Morel.
That's a stretch for JL. Not enough reviews or reputation for these. I mean if these were flying off the shelf then yes. Any competition wins with these? Were is the "rep"? I'll pass.

Thanks for the information, very detailed. I am currently on the hunt for an upgrade from stock & after seeing your review and seeing them onsite at a local stereo shop. I have made my decision. As the owner / user of the legendary 500/1 monoblock as seen in ↖that photo.. I am more than happy with the quality and craftsmanship of their audio equipment. 👊😎 Fistbump to Jim & Lou!

Mark that build on your dads car was AWESOME !! the look on his face said it all , it was really cool you were able to do that for him . i was considering a set of Focal ES165 KX3 for my truck but after seeing your video on these JL C7 , Humm . im sure you have installed both and was wondering what your thoughts were between the 2 options . i have a set of Kilpsh K-Horns (fronts) and Lascalas (rear) for my home system and love the sound . wondering what you feel is the best option and secondly how they will compare to that Klipsh sound ?
I have the JL audio c5 components speakers and C5 coaxial speakers with a 5channel amplifier JL XD1000/5 with a HO112W6V3 ... omg ... If the c5 speakers are great The c7 should be phenomenal SQ
After going 3-way with a set of Hertz Mille’s, I will never go 2-way again. The difference was that noticeable to me! Unless if I just don’t have the space...
I was more of a fan of the German manufactured MB Quart components. I had 4 sets of them in my 2001 E-class running off a pair of Alpine amps and Alpine head unit. I believe each set cost me about $400. I think that was the best sound system I ever built. It didn’t even need a subwoofer. It sounded so clean and crisp. I remember hearing things like the artists moistening their lips. The guitar players fingers moving up and down the fretboard. The felt hammers striking the strings on a piano.
even though some of the materials are imported, JL still produces and assembles much of the speaker lines in their catalog. that may not matter to some, but it does to me! very few made in USA companies remain. i will say, the sub lineup covers almost any budget out there, if you can swing the upper end subs you wont be disappointed.. the W3 series is a great mid-cost sub. although i have not seen many praise their component systems, i would think some of the comps are top tier. wish i had a way to get a 3-way system in my Taco, without mods or those horrible looking aftermarket speaker pods. for now, i'll stick with my budget 2-way system but perhaps update in the future.. or on my next vehicle.
Focal kx3 mid-range really good, twitter really good but mid-bass really bad 👎. I had kx3 a year ago, I replaced for audiofrog GB60, GB25 AND GB10 and wow big difference especially in the mid-bass. I'm running active with xd800/8v2. 4 channels bridge just for GB60. DSP ALPINE PXE-0850S
Does it make sense for JL Audio to provide individual driver FR graphs if the speakers haven't been broken-in? Next question, have they done a factory break-in?
@Ross Melton AFAIK, JL does not break these in before shipping them. Maybe Manville Smith or Rob Haynes at JL will chime in and correct me, but out of the box, the suspensions are very stiff on these...i.e. the rubber surrounds and woven cloth spiders. I installed a set of these and they definitely loosened up after a few weeks, enough that I opted to retune the system with the DSP. Most high-end speaker manufacturers suggest at least 80 hours continuous for break-in for midrange and midwoofers. The compliance specs will change a bit in that time, namely the Fs and Qtc/Qts specs. I've used, tested, and installed 100's of different types of speakers, and I was really surprised at just how stiff the suspensions were on these C7's, especially the little 3.5" mid! It was more like a High SPL subwoofer suspension! These sound great, but for similar money, my current favorite is the Audiofrog GB60/GB25/GB10 combination. Or just the GB60/GB15 2-way combo. YMMV
@@bbfoto7248 Thanks for the response BBFoto. Funny you mention the Frogs, I'm currently running GB10/GB25 w/GS 690's for my frontstage. The GB25's are currently/temporarily running wideband, as I haven't installed the GB10's yet.
That 3.5" mid range has my interest peak. I'm in the process of planning out my system for my new 2020 Dodge Ram. I've been having issues finding a 3 - 3.5" mid range that can handle at least 100 rms. Right now I've found Dynaudio and CDT options but this JL 3.5" will be added to the mix. I actually have a question about how to set up my 3 way system If anyone would care to listen and give me some feedback? My question is what do you think about using a 3 way setup where I'd use the 6.5" mid bass speakers on channels 3/4 of a 4 channel amp with a BP crossover. I'd send the 6'5's 80hz-250hz. The tweet's and mid-range I'd use a CDT ex-30 passive crossover which would send the mid-range 250hz-5500hz and the tweet 5500hz and up. This would be a mix of active and passive so I'm curious what anyone thinks of this or would I be better off going with a 6 channel amp and full active?
Do it right the first time that truck deserves it and you don’t have to worry about it sounding better if you would have went with the other option instead
@@fpalenciafp Yeah you're right and I do plan to open the budget up a little bit for this. This is going to be a permanent install and I plan to have this truck for many years. I'm going to start with the 6 channel audio control amp with the built in DSP.
Have you looked into like a fix-86 I think there the easiest to tune because of the blinking lite I had a loc-22 on the subs I had on my 2019ram with a slash 1v3 on two 13.5tw5
Apart from the 3.5 mid I will be running this exact setup, imo definitely go full active, because a passive crossover worthy of this system would probably outweigh the cost of just getting a 6 ch amp and reaping its benefits. I'm also looking for options for a rear speaker (coaxial) to pair with these that can handle the 125rms of the D-6.1200
I have a question about subwoofers and midrange speaker cone's? I have always liked running polypropylene with rubber surround subs and midrange speakers but some of my friends run paper cone speakers! My question is what is better? I know the polypropylene speakers last longer as they don't rot also I like the sound quality.
20 years ago my jl audio rep wanted me to use their separates on my build and focals sounded so much better. I bought the utopias and loved the way they sounded compared to jl high end. I would really like to hear what these sound like. If you only knew what my pricing was but I have to promise not to sell the equipment for 1 year.
I’ve been overly happy with the C5’s - they are at the ‘last speaker’ status in terms of a listener being satisfied with overall sound. I imagine the C7’s are too!
Good to know. I had a lot of doubt regarding the capacitor on my tweeters. (Leave it or remove) It seems like the best thing would be to replace it with one of these capacitors.
Im already doing some custom A pillars and D pillars for my 2019 ford flex SEL thanks to whatever videos i have been able to find with you doing A pillars lol. Im going from C5 3ways to C7 3 way full active all around.
@@CarAudioFabrication yes!!!! JL Audio has been so helpful to me as well, they sent me some C7 flush mount tweeter cups a few days ago so i can get started on my A And D pillars. This is one of the reasons why ive been a JL Audio Customer since 2011. Just havent decided on the HD amps with a Twk88 or going the VXi amp route and having a bit of less power. Perhaps doing some Overlapping with my SMD DD1+ will help compensate a bit for that. 😁
@@miker-s7219 the C5-653 3 ways are awesome! I have those in my Buick Park Avenue paired with an HD600/4 and they are bad ass!!!! So i figured if these C7 are the new Top Notch, they should sound even smoother and louder then the C5s. 👌
@@joseluisruiz3789 The wireless TüN app for the VXi DSP/amplifiers using their separate BT adapter is awesome. Almost reason alone to use them. But they are expensive. Get the VXI 8 channel and bridge 4 channels for the midwoofers. The DSP in the VXi amps include another DSP processed set of line level RCA outputs to send to any subwoofer amp of your choosing, even a non-JL amp. So you could still use a HD1200.1 for your subwoofer(s) and use the extra DSP output channel from the VXi 8-channel or other multi-channel VXi amp to process your sub amp. I'm sure you can hook up a decent discount from your dealer or rep tho'. :)
Passive is done via inductors and capacitors depending on what component you're making the crossover for, basically the frequencies get filtered below a certain threshold after the amp but before the speaker, frequencies near the cut off linger and you can get a soft cut off. An active crossover is anything like the crossover in the head unit/sound system per speaker, usually controlled by software and is a complete dead cut off, there are usually no lingering frequencies/soft cut off unless specifically designed that way or have an option for it.
I have all C2s. I found that my door speakers are distorting so badly. I was told to buy a new head unit but that didn’t fix anything. I’m guessing all I can do now is amp then up? The speakers are definitely not blown as they sound amazing hooked up to the rear of the car. Bass isn’t up too high or anything 🤔
Hi Mark! I'm installing a car audio system using one (1) AudioControl D-4.800 for the satellites and a LC-1.1500 for the subwoofers. If I was to use all three of the speakers of the JLAudio C7 system, can the digital processor built into the D-4.800 actually work as a crossover (and band pass) for the JLAudio C7's if I was to install a set of JLAudio C7's in the front and a set of JLAudio C7's in the rear?
That wouldn't work as that amp has four channels. You would want one channel per speaker. So with 6 speakers up front and six in the back you need 12 channels plus sub.
Mark, I'm replacing the stock system in my 2016 Mercedes Benz CLS400. How do you think this component set compares to the least expensive Focal 3-way component set?
I'd like to have all 7 series speakers and subwoofers installed in my car in Maryland - is there any shop you highly recommend in my state or neighboring state? It's not easy to find a professional and dependable shop.
Hey Mark, Im going to be running 2 c7-100cts and and 1 c7-350cm in my dash on my truck. These are recommended to be ran as active and with a dsp. I will be using a LC8i since im keeping my factory head unit. Does the LC8i serve as an active crossover? If so do I need a dsp? I was told If I get the LC8i then its kinda pointless to get the vx800/8i since the LC8i does all of the fine tuning to run any basic 8channel amp without DSP?
Do you have to put the tweeter and the mid together or can I put it in the rear pillars I have 07 tahoe and I have 2 tweeters in the front pillars and 6 1/2 on the doors and two 3 1/2 in the rear pillars I'm trying to upgrade my factory speakers
Mark I have a pioneer Deh 80prs running in metwork mode I just installed a pair of Punch Tweeters they came with crossovers they are 3500hz & up should I use them even though I using the onboard crossover in the head unit?

The soon to be released 6ch Alpine R-A90S amplifier would be a very good match for this active 3 way system.
The last jl component set I had was the XR....I’m getting old
As the owner / user of the legendary 500/1 monoblock as seen in ↖that photo.. I am more than happy with the quality and craftsmanship of their audio equipment.
👊😎 Fistbump to Jim & Lou!
2ΩINFJ CD5 same! I have the same 1000/1v2 and 2 w7 10s that i had for over 10 years and that insane. It really is a testament of i the quality of JL Audio products, you get what you pay for
Mark that build on your dads car was AWESOME !! the look on his face said it all , it was really cool you were able to do that for him . i was considering a set of Focal ES165 KX3 for my truck but after seeing your video on these JL C7 , Humm . im sure you have installed both and was wondering what your thoughts were between the 2 options . i have a set of Kilpsh K-Horns (fronts) and Lascalas (rear) for my home system and love the sound . wondering what you feel is the best option and secondly how they will compare to that Klipsh sound ?
Thanks for such an in-depth review/unboxing of these! 😇😎
CdT is a very underated speaker.
Very nice, wish I could, definitely would.
These 3-way would be wonderful the VXi 800/8. I would bridge the 4 channels into 2 to push the woofers.
They have best subs forever🙏🏾🙏🏾
I have always been impressed by them, especially the low profile options, crazy the bass output they have with such small air space.
I see some videos in internet.. they try to destroy jl sub with extra power.. but guess what!! he cant blow that jl sub!! And still working!!
I have the JL audio c5 components speakers and C5 coaxial speakers with a 5channel amplifier JL XD1000/5 with a HO112W6V3 ... omg ...
If the c5 speakers are great
The c7 should be phenomenal SQ
You should do an in-box camera for a sub box so that the owner can flip to a channel on the head unit and see the subs doing their thing.
After going 3-way with a set of Hertz Mille’s, I will never go 2-way again. The difference was that noticeable to me!
Unless if I just don’t have the space...
I may get this setup for my car when I do my build
I was more of a fan of the German manufactured MB Quart components. I had 4 sets of them in my 2001 E-class running off a pair of Alpine amps and Alpine head unit. I believe each set cost me about $400. I think that was the best sound system I ever built. It didn’t even need a subwoofer. It sounded so clean and crisp. I remember hearing things like the artists moistening their lips. The guitar players fingers moving up and down the fretboard. The felt hammers striking the strings on a piano.
My favorite speaker brand....
even though some of the materials are imported, JL still produces and assembles much of the speaker lines in their catalog. that may not matter to some, but it does to me! very few made in USA companies remain.
i will say, the sub lineup covers almost any budget out there, if you can swing the upper end subs you wont be disappointed.. the W3 series is a great mid-cost sub. although i have not seen many praise their component systems, i would think some of the comps are top tier. wish i had a way to get a 3-way system in my Taco, without mods or those horrible looking aftermarket speaker pods.
for now, i'll stick with my budget 2-way system but perhaps update in the future.. or on my next vehicle.
How do the C7s compare to the Focal KX3s?
Focal kx3 mid-range really good, twitter really good but mid-bass really bad 👎. I had kx3 a year ago, I replaced for audiofrog GB60, GB25 AND GB10 and wow big difference especially in the mid-bass. I'm running active with xd800/8v2. 4 channels bridge just for GB60. DSP ALPINE PXE-0850S
Mark ... we are waiting for your awesome projects with CNC ... wish you all the best dear brother ...
Love you videos man! Have you made one on which speaker is the slimmest?
Your dad must be proud of you..lol .JL audio is one of the best
From this video I can say confidently that JL paid well, very well
So beautiful This speakers😍
Where can I find the C7 speakers? Crutchfield has been sold out of them for months.....
Went and checked them out after this video, ready to order... until I saw the price! Wow. Way out of my range.
Im not worthy.... THANKS BRO.. FINALLY, some component love.
That is one sexy component set! 🤩
Does it make sense for JL Audio to provide individual driver FR graphs if the speakers haven't been broken-in? Next question, have they done a factory break-in?
@Ross Melton
AFAIK, JL does not break these in before shipping them.
It looks like their old zr line which used to be great and we're comparable to focals
what amp and head unit would you recommend with these speakers for best performance?
It would be best to go full active.
Those are nice. I like the 6.5. Plenty of surround material and nice power handling.
The performance is very warm and natural sounding. Mid bass has great impact and depth.
I have a question about subwoofers and midrange speaker cone's? I have always liked running polypropylene with rubber surround subs and midrange speakers but some of my friends run paper cone speakers! My question is what is better? I know the polypropylene speakers last longer as they don't rot also I like the sound quality.
Yep, I'm ordering them!
Love my c5s and 12w7
Are we going to be seeing JLs in all your builds now or do you still stand by the Focals?
i like the grill with all the holes
How about the Morel? How do these acoustically compare?
Btw💯
Good question! Probably the JL components will have more base, but un general I don't know?
Good to know.
I had a lot of doubt regarding the capacitor on my tweeters. (Leave it or remove)
It seems like the best thing would be to replace it with one of these capacitors.
Im already doing some custom A pillars and D pillars for my 2019 ford flex SEL thanks to whatever videos i have been able to find with you doing A pillars lol. Im going from C5 3ways to C7 3 way full active all around.
That is going to sound awesome!
Jose Luis Ruiz how were the c5s ?
@@miker-s7219 the C5-653 3 ways are awesome! I have those in my Buick Park Avenue paired with an HD600/4 and they are bad ass!!!! So i figured if these C7 are the new Top Notch, they should sound even smoother and louder then the C5s. 👌
@@joseluisruiz3789
The wireless TüN app for the VXi DSP/amplifiers using their separate BT adapter is awesome.
That set of speakers costs more than my car 😭

So true but i love my Job...
I would love to have these to replace my Hertz Millie Pro 3 Way.
I wonder how they compare to the Audiofrog GB series.
I was on the fence of getting those too but fell in love with Hybrid Audio Technologies.
What’s the difference between active and passive crossovers?
Passive is done via inductors and capacitors depending on what component you're making the crossover for, basically the frequencies get filtered below a certain threshold after the amp but before the speaker, frequencies near the cut off linger and you can get a soft cut off. An active crossover is anything like the crossover in the head unit/sound system per speaker, usually controlled by software and is a complete dead cut off, there are usually no lingering frequencies/soft cut off unless specifically designed that way or have an option for it.
On the speaker that has the two grills, which one is stronger for being bumped accident, which one will protect the speaker best.
Yeah, if you wanted to run 2 way c7 components that 4 channel with built in dsp has al the bells and whistles necessary.
Would you pick these over hertz mpk163.3 pro?
It looks very similar to the early 2000s Rockford Fosgate stuff, which is a look I always loved. I wish I had $4k to spend I'd be all over those.
Those grills remind me of fractal art. Very cool looking imo.
Do grills help or hurt the off axis response? Also is that tweeter cap considered a bass blocker?
Mark, I'm replacing the stock system in my 2016 Mercedes Benz CLS400. How do you think this component set compares to the least expensive Focal 3-way component set?
I'd like to have all 7 series speakers and subwoofers installed in my car in Maryland - is there any shop you highly recommend in my state or neighboring state? It's not easy to find a professional and dependable shop.
I'm going for a 2017 chevy bolt. What are the pieces of equipment needed to run this audio set in that car?
Hey Mark, Im going to be running 2 c7-100cts and and 1 c7-350cm in my dash on my truck. These are recommended to be ran as active and with a dsp. I will be using a LC8i since im keeping my factory head unit. Does the LC8i serve as an active crossover? If so do I need a dsp? I was told If I get the LC8i then its kinda pointless to get the vx800/8i since the LC8i does all of the fine tuning to run any basic 8channel amp without DSP?
Which amplifier would u recommend to go with the c7 set?
Do you have to put the tweeter and the mid together or can I put it in the rear pillars I have 07 tahoe and I have 2 tweeters in the front pillars and 6 1/2 on the doors and two 3 1/2 in the rear pillars I'm trying to upgrade my factory speakers
Can I run a 3.5” and a tweeter with a sub for a older car that doesn’t have spacer for the larger 6-6.5”?
Mark I have a pioneer Deh 80prs running in metwork mode I just installed a pair of Punch Tweeters they came with crossovers they are 3500hz & up should I use them even though I using the onboard crossover in the head unit?
Would’ve been nicer if they had a third grill that combine both grills
like the tweeters grill
so can a passive crossover be used with the C7 tweeters?
So with this setup will you run any rear speakers?
How do the c7's compare to focal k2's?
How would these compare to the Audison Voce
