  • This is my EDC Bag for my go-to HT Ham Radio in 2024. Over the last year since I began carrying this bag, it has changed slightly - this is the latest rendition, at the time of this recording. Special thanks to ‪@KM4ACK‬ for this idea.

I have made a couple of USB-C cable kits consisting of a USB-C cable, and a bunch of small adapters for USB A -> C, C -> Mini B, C -> Micro B, C -> full size B, C -> Lightning. They are almost universal and quite compact. I have one of those cables, an older 10Ah power bank, headlight, and a Quancheng UV-K5 in my backpack.

At Summer Field Day 2019 I came up with a near identical setup. I was using a one size down Maxpedition pouch which held a then new OpenSpot 2 and a Yaesu FT-70. Also had my cell phone in there, with a power bank. Basically it gave a full on the go C4FM rig, along with a write in the rain pad and space pen (for logging). I EDC'ed it for a good while, and used it for C4FM in the car. I'd molle attach it to a Maxpedition Lunada bag. I got out of C4FM when the solar cycle started picking up and dove into HF (stopped going out much during the Covid stuff). It's good to see other people come up with a similar system - I'm a very big fan of Maxpedition gear!

Maxpedition does make very nice and sturdy bags. High quality standards. You can find similar & cheaper bags but if zippers or stitching fails, then how much did you save?

The bag I carry to work everyday and have carried for the last 12 years is a Maxpedition Kodiak Gearslinger. Hands down the best backpack I've ever owned. Hardly showing any signs of wear or tear even though it is well used. I take it to work with me and on travel. As long as I don't stuff it too full, it fits nicely under an airline seat too. I also have some Eberlestock equipment as well that I use for field day which carries ALL of my radio gear. Eberlestock tends to be a bit more expensive that Maxpedition, but I'd also recommend them as well. They have some nice pouches and EDC bags if Maxpedition is sold out. Both companies are top notch though and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from either.

I have a small bag I keep in the car with some radio stuff in it, but I don't know that I'd call it an EDC since I never take it out. It's not much, but it's really only there in case I need it and my mobile antenna on my car isn't quite good enough to get a signal out. I keep a roll up Ed Fong j-pole, a 17' piece of feed line, a ton of coax adapters, and a couple different USB cables along with Velcro cable ties, some arborist line and a throw weight. I also have a 12' fiberglass pole that collapses down to about 4' I keep behind the back seat if there aren't any trees. I don't keep a flashlight in that bag, but I do have a USB rechargeable Olight hard mounted in the glove box and plugged in to a 12v-USB adapter, so it's always charged. Keeping an HT in the bag with a power brick would be a great idea so I don't have run my car battery down to run my mobile radio. I'd almost like to get a LiFePO battery to keep in the car full time, just not convinced on that yet since it gets so hot here. The only spare HT's I have at the moment are a BTech and a couple of Baofeng's. I don't know that I'd want to leave my Anytone in there.

Nice set up. I keep similar bags for my HTs, with yours being closest to the one in my truck being for the TH-D72 I keep there. The only things I would add would be a small note pad (as noted in other comments), and a packing list of everything kept in the bag (I would put it in one of the Ziplocs in the outside pocket of your bag).
I have packing lists for for my go box, go bag, the "EDC" in the truck, and my CERT Kit. Copies of each list on my phone. Makes it easy to find what bag I packed a certain widget in, and also allows someone else to find something in your bag/box (say during an ARES SET and you have them go grab something from it).

The new "Fara-J", roll up antenna would easily fit in a small bag like this. Versus my home brewed Ed Fong, roll up J-Pole antenna. It takes me, more room to safely coil up, and place into a small bag. Because I don't like pinching / crimping the copper wire of that antenna.
