People can pay $400 for the Strymon Iridium and that’s fine. This Joyo sounds very good. I’ve been using it live for a year and it does a great job going direct to PA.
Still one of the best (cheap) hidden gems on my pedal board. The tone shaping on this is unbelievable. It literally makes every amp sound better!!! Also, so many amps have low end that you can't pull out from the built in EQ. THIS THING WILL PULL OUT ALL AVAILABLE LOW END!!!
Good to know all of this. Everyone seems to just use this pedal as a direct-in amp sim. I can't find much info on people using it as a pedal into an amp.
@@thenewmedic In Venezuela is too difficult to find valves, vacum tubes, thats why I was forced to buy a used solid state amplifier, a fender deluxe 112 plus for 80 dollars, as its drive channel is not to my liking (although it is for many users) I bought an American joyo used for 25 dollars and I use it near to crunch through the effects loop, before the delay, I use the original reverb of the amp, also a z-vex box of rock for louder sounds and its clean booster for solos. the american sound solved my sound because it receives the z-vex well.
This is the best compliment I can come up with: "The song & music took over and stole the video!" I've got both of those pedals and enjoy finding videos showing them in action, but when you got to playing the whole song I completely forgot about the pedal and was drawn into music. I don't think a lot of RUclips gear reviewers could play a whole song if their lives depended on it, most rip out a few 15 second flashy licks trying to impress and act cool, which is okay I guess. This was on a totally different level to anything I've seen in this area. Thank you for the great performance, music and song! Oh .............. and demonstration of the pedal :-0 Great work!
I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Archer! It is indeed very enjoyable to hear a whole song played and recorded with passion. The gear demo is just icing on the cake. Love it!
For a low volume bedroom rocker (blues, classic rock, clean to moderate OD) like me, the Joyo American is the $40 solution to the Fender Tonemaster amps. This pedal, fed into various voices on a Vox Cambridge 50, gives great richness and fullness to the Vox Deluxe twin setting, the AC30 top boost and the Brit 1959 setting. My two cents. These combinations give you a 'hybrid', highly tweakable amp sound, and some credible grit at bedroom sound levels. Great pedal!
I have 2 of these . Stereo outs from my pedalboard, Into the Americans, into a Presonous audiobox. Couldn't be happier with my recorded sound. And these pedals are a giveaway. No money. For recording bass I do the same thing with a TC Spectradrive. 4 band EQ and compressor. In either case I'm confident DI into a good PA would sound good. I love a good amp, but these pedals are so good that you could do without it!
Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Saw them (Him) back in ‘88/‘89 at a bar called Franklin’s(?) in Denver CO. Unbelievable guitarist and you did a great job this rendition.
I bought this pedal recently and returned it within a few days I have to be clear that I had no issues with the functionality of the pedal, this was not the sound I was looking for. Fender Bassman, dumble amp nope. But it just took you into that American sound scape that so many pedals miss. It's not bassman or dumble but it's still a great pedal.
I've seen many pedal demos: some awful, occasionally some very well thought out. I have to say that what you have given us here is absolutely the best and most informative pedal review I've ever seen. And also a pleasurable tune listening experience. As you're recording direct to your DAW and perhaps adding in some CAB IRs, the only difference between what you are demoing and what I can do with my own American Sound pedal and similar guitars is your excellent playing :) I came here as I've been looking for some YT videos which might help persuade me to give the Strymon Iridium a shot in order to improve on the equipment I already use (specifically the Joyo AS and AcTone). I honestly don't think the $435 euros it would cost me would be worth it. Thanks a lot. Subscribed!
Great job, dude! love the $34 pedal, the $150 HB tele, the strat with one of the only colors that really makes the tortoise shell pick guard look great, and the song. Well done! Off to buy me a Joyo pedal.
New comment, old video, but great work. I've loved that song for multiple decades and it's never gotten the love it deserves. The pedal sounds great, I have one on the way. Again, great job! I bought the British Sound years ago after I saw you play a Rush song through it, can't remember which song. As others have said, putting it through a whole song with multiple layers is awesome!
Sounded killer on every setting you used. Also, Bravo for covering "Big Head Tod and the Monsters". Such an underrated band. Love the joyo pedals. I've actually used them direct on my board with a DI strait into a PA live. I always us it with a touch of room reverb to make it sound more natural. It even stacks with od pedals great. Great demo of how versatile these $40 pedals are.
Sounded great, I agree if there was anything cheap in this mix, I didn't hear it, but I was listening to the song in the end which I guess just proved the point. Have a Great New Year.
An amazing pedal for recording into your DAW, so much so I’ve bought all of the others in the series. The California is simply amazing for Bass. Speaking of which, a great cover as well. Your videos keep getting better and better.
This is the Swiss army knife of pedals. I'm a harp player and the Joyo American works well with every amp I have or direct to the p.a. I've played smaller gigs with my Pignose and this pedal and sounded big and fat and powerful. All transported on my passenger seat. Just unreal!
Good voice and well played, Rich. I been searching the best Joyo American video in YT, yours is 👍🤘..will get this set as soonest and thanks for your great info. Cheers
I am making the rounds trying to get an education on pedals. I first saw and fell in love with this pedal in another version created for Thomann. So seeing this has me sold for sure as well as the Azor pedals for the money. Awesome playing and thanks!
I've had the American for a while now, my buddy has the British. Great inexpensive pedals for certain situations. When we use them, we go directly from our pedal board going directly into a power mixer, then into the house PA system for example. One could get spoiled real quick not having to carry gig amps all over town. Of course, like anything else, there's always trade offs to take into consideration. Not the ultimate solution, but the best 'BUDGET' one when options are limited.
I'm buying the pedal. And if you happen to have an album I wouldn't mind giving it a good listen and maybe buying that too. Great vibe! Wasn't expecting that.😃
I've been using a POD Go almost exclusively for about a year now, but I feel like I want to get back into using these Joyo Sound series pedals (I have all four, and am thinking about buying the new Oxford, which is an Orange amp sim). They are very versatile, even the California (Mesa Boogie) one gets great clean tones.
I am a newer subscriber and I just gotta say wow, that was quite the production! I was on the fence about the American but you really sold me. I think when you turned down the voice and got the old school fender sound during your solo it reminded me of the Old Blackface amps. Those are my favorite Fender tone and I cant afford one of those old beauties so I think this is the reasonable alternative.
Great video I watched this and think how great this pedal is. It is one of the first pedals I bought and I use it on my pedal board in front of my amp. I use it clean almost no drive to add sparkle it is almost always on.I have some really expensive pedals Ryra , beetroninx, OCD's and keeleys but this is still one of the most used pedals on my board
Nice cover and the guitar sounds great - especially the slide bits. I'll be dragging my one of these out for a bit of fun! Don't think I ever used it on slide. It proves you don't need top line gear to record a good song.
Great tune and amazing playing. I think the guitar tracks sound great. You can also use a tube preamp behind the joyo and increase its output just enough to make the preamp clip slightly. Gives it just a little more tube realism.
I have the AC tone on my board now as my main overdrive pedal. Wanting to get the American Sound pedal to add to it. I'm using a Gibson Les Paul Jr. as my main guitar into a Fender Mastertone Super Reverb. Lot of raunch and grind with this rig but it does clean up fairly nice. Even can get a little hillbilly twang going, too. Thanks for this demo. It's what I was looking for in a band mix sound.
I was doing my homework at looking for a cab simulator... I was being so logical... comparing prices, features, projecting uses... and so on. But then I saw this video and f*** the logic!; I bought the pedal; even though I am a Marshall guy. Thanks for breaking my will. XD

The Tech-21 series sounded great DI'd without anything else. Plus you could turn off the speaker simulator. Great bang for the buck though!
Rich that was awesome. The jam was great. Seeing you play the drums and all is reminding me of my years of drumming. Recently took up guitar 1.5 years ago. Still uploading my Journey to RUclips. But when I saw this. It reminded me of one day I'll now be able to play it all. Keys Drums and guitar and bass should be no issue. I hope to one day produce my own album. To leave behind. Something different but a concept musical atmospheric blues like similar to marrooned. But with a bit more intricate drum technique. I know I'll over do the drums. Hahahah. Peace man. Thoroughly enjoyed.
I have all of the Joyo pedals. IMO if you pair them with a good cab simulator the sound is just incredible. I use them the DigiTech Cab Dryvr. My favorite for Strat is the British Sound (think Plexi, JCM800) but that one defenetly needs a cabsim, but the touch sensitivity is unreal. The American is second. I found out that the California sound really really good for direct recording for bass. I did try some more expansive digital options but IMO the digital one are not that responsive. Just my $0.02.
I was thinking of buying the Iridium, but I think a wiser and cheaper solution for me is to just buy a Mooer Radar to add to my AS and AcTone. And then a lot more practice!
Great review, excellent format, ok, sold, on this gadget, do I need, nope got a boss katana 100 and a Marshall, but I bought a Vox MV50, to give to my son, through an old 2x12, its OK, they missed a trick with them, but put a nux plexi in front and wow! I think this pedal might do the same, for a Fender Sound and not much money.
Nice sound and production, I could not tell it was modelled without really concentrating, and this is something the average Joe just doesn't do when listening to music
