Controversial Take: But I don't care that the dark skin women went. I really don't care. Because the light skin women don't have to be in solidarity and give up their seat on the bus when they get offered an opportunity that a darkskin woman could have gotten. Why should they? Stop DEMANDING dark skin women to be the MULES.

I mean...I get the logic behind making them pay you more because they do actually need you (get the bag), but it's counter-productive if you're trying to fight for more spaces for black creators (which makes me think that that isn't their agenda) because you're still playing their game.

They don't want us and it's ok, we can't force them either coz wether we like it or not, they aren't forced to make shades for us, instead let's pay them dust and come out with our own, Fenty beauty has laid out the blueprint, let's take it from there and leave brands that are clearly not meant for us alone.

In 2017 I got my first ever office job at Tarte doing customer service. I was so excited until my second day when they asked us to line up in order of skin color- lightest to darkest. It was so shocking and humiliating. They were apparently trying to find all of our undertones (cool, neutral, warm etc…) by holding up a white piece of printer paper to our faces. I will never understand making us line up like that. AND on top of all of that, the woman testing for undertones SKIPPED me. Humiliated for no reason. I worked there during the 2018 blow back for lack of inclusive shades. When they decided to make the extender shades, groups of white women would come down to the customer service team (bc there were no black woman in the higher positions) and try to test out the new shades on different black girls. They asked and I agreed KNOWING it would be a sh*t show. Two white women put foundation on half of my face, didn’t even offer me a mirror and stood over me saying to themselves “wow that looks really good”. When I finally got a mirror I burst out laughing. It looked like they had painted half of my face orange. I said “I would never wear this hahaha” and the women looked genuinely shocked and said “never?!”
I have more horror stories of racism at that job, trust me.
So yeaaaahhhh Tarte is not it for black folk. They do not care about us. I would never support that brand in my life.

At the end of the day being an influencer has everything to do with business and it's everyone for themselves when it comes to that. Just because Bria didn't want to go it doesn't mean that Fannita should've missed an opportunity to Network because that's what these trips are all about. Networking! The girl decided not to go based on assumptions and wanted another black woman to miss out on an opportunity that could benefit her. At the end of the day Bria fumbled her own bag by publicly stating that a company is racist and it's already hard for black creators to get good brand deals and partnerships. She may have a hard time with getting more brand deals after this.

It’s upsetting and understandable that the influencers feel some type of way about it. How about directing energy to work with companies that already support your community rather than pressuring a company to bend to accommodate. They could do it if they wanted to, but they don’t. Let that be and move around - go where you are celebrated and nothing less

Evidence of Tarte being racist has been on the Internet for over half a decade now. Do just as much research into them as they do to you when they consider you for these partnerships or brand trips
