Mr. Kennedy, I am a 77 year old vet. When I went in for my yearly physical at the VA. I was asked the exact same questions.. I refused to answer. If this is what the VA has now become, somebody needs to look into it.

@RLee-we1fc in order to get a loan, generally financial records are consulted as to the likelihood of that person paying back the loan (credit score, other outstanding loans, contents of bank account, etc.). I can see financial records being consulted, but I shouldn't have to answer inane questions like that in order to get a loan. Questions like that have absolutely nothing to do with getting a small business loan.
In 1976 I got my first full time job in Seattle, and in Seattle it was illegal for the employer to ask your creed, sexual preference, gender, or anything personal that didn't affect performance. The only thing the employer was legally allowed to ask was whether you were a veteran or a racial minority. Why has this government changed the law?

This is so true. My parents just retired from farming after years of struggle and their house burned down 3 months later. They’re trying to rebuild without selling land since insurance wasn’t enough. I'm an 84 yo veteran needing some assistance and being a ''Senior Citizen' or a ''Veteran'' is tauted as being a plus in receiving consideration , but it is not really , it's just window dressing to get donations and those volunteering to get recognition. Two years of me researching has brought me to the conclusion that everything in the US is similar to Washington DC , Deep State, favortism and supporting special groups for solidarity.
I have been expecting to live to be 112 , but now expecting to be dead within two months. I'm tired of the gamesmanship . If I expected to live longer than two more months I would have to declare myself to be a black ,gay female in order not to receive resistance of being a real American citizen.

I needed to go to a Quick Care in my smaller community and was required to answer all these questions before seeing a doctor. I told them I found it offensive and was told by the receptionist that they had to ask whether they wanted to or not.
I’m certain that this place would qualify as a small business, and something from this current bureaucracy was to blame!
These questions are asked at hospitals now too and I think it is ludicrous! Hospitals definitely don’t fit the small business mold.
As with all such questions, the proper answer is "none of your business"; and - if you're denied the loan - immediately sue on sexual harassment grounds.

First problem - government collecting data on private business. Please don't tell me they thought it would never be used against the business owners.
Governments only really collect data on people, so that it can be used against the very people they requested that data from.
As much as Sen. Kennedy makes valid points for many of us, he can't do it alone. Other than Sen. Hawley, who else is there standing up for America these days???
There are lots of others who have his morals, but the bureaucracy is too large for their voices to be heard.
We’re a representative republic, but our representatives can’t carry all the water. The citizenry has to have a collective voice of our own to combat idiocy or outright bad intentions. I vote and make a few targeted political contributions, but beyond that, I barely have enough time in the day to handle my work and personal business.sigh
