Gtfoh. He cares no more than anyone else in that room. Their children aren’t dying of fentanyl overdoses. He just wants to be the guy that can campaign on how tough a stance he takes on drugs by more mass incarceration. You want to be groundbreaking propose a bill to decriminalize and federally regulate the sale of recreational drugs. The evidence exists if it was possible to arrest away a drug market the USA would have achieved that 25 years ago. Instead it’s only gotten worse because of the enormity of the illegal market. The massive amounts of competition in Mexico have caused the market prices to plummet. Which pushes traffickers to produce synthetic drugs like meth and fentanyl to sell. That now has gotten so extreme that nearly every drug coming from Mexico no matter how it is marketed or packaged is only fentanyl or at bare minimum is tainted with fentanyl. The deaths are due to the laws not the poor people who step up to keep the supply chain moving. Americans want to use recreational drugs. As soon as we stop not saying that out loud we’ll be headed in the right direction.

Weve tried this extreme sentences for drug offenses. They dont work. We have proof. We have hard evidence over the last 60 years. We need to legalize drugs and regulate their production. This is more justice, moral, and provides a safe product that wont kill people. At the very least no lethal mixtures. And we provide rehab services for those that want to get better. This has proven positive effects in Portugal. We also can look at marijuana legalization, less teens are smoking it in legalized areas. We need to normalize, educate, empower kids to make good decisions and not ruin their lives, or execute them, if they make a mistake.

I think what Booker was saying is "Don't just focus on the surface issue, but instead think about what is causing the issue on the surface. Think about the root cause of this problem and don't just put a band-aid on a festering wound." And if that is what he was saying, I think there is truth in it. You have a problem, you need to solve that problem at the source, otherwise, it will be like putting a band-aid on a festering wound. The drug issue is a serious issue with no easy or quick solutions. But I agree with Sen Kennedy to punish the dealers, though that does seem like an attempt to solve the surface problems and not address the root cause of the issue. I think the root cause of the drug problems in America is that there are people in this country that are heavily addicted to drugs and people experiment with drugs and get addicted and become a part of that problem and cartels and dealers take advantage of those people. A stronger stance against drugs and healing and treatment centers for those addicted to drugs would be a step in the right direction. I think right now, lots of college students are taking caffeine pills or adderal to help them with studying and prepping for exams. That is a dangerous situation for them because they coiuld unkowingly be taking dangerous drugs and loose their lives to them. Another reason why it's important to address the root cause of the issue and while the whole issue may not go away, it can at least be minimized so less harm is done.

Sen Kennedy is fantastic. Having administered 100's of thousands of IV, spinal, & epidural doses of fentanyl and its analogs in my 40yr anesthesia career, I have to say that 2mg of fentanyl is well beyond a lethal dose for many people. Our typical IV dose would be 50-100 mcg's. Without advanced cardio-respiratory support, most people would stop breathing long before 2,000 micrograms----that's 2 mg. In a protracted spinal fusion case, we may use that much and more fentanyl over a period of 6 or 7 hours---but during that procedure, this patient will be intubated and on a vent. Long term narcotic addicts do develope incredible tolerences
and can survive megadoses. Sadly, far too many people are exposed to large doses long
before being able to survive these inadvertent megadoses.

Medication Assisted Treatment MAT is the gold standard in opiate treatment but doctors can only prescribe Suboxone or Vivitrol. Methadone is the oldest and most successful medication in the treatment of opiate addiction yet can only be prescribed in a clinic setting, where the patient must go everyday to receive it. It should be more accessible like Suboxone. I'm curious as to your opinion on this matter if your familiar with the issue?

Because he knows that supporting the bill would inevitably result in more blacks with longer prison sentences and he don't want that. If fact he wants the opposite of that. Blacks commit a disproportionate amount of crime, including drug crimes, in the US relative to their overall percentage of the population. That is the truth and if you dare point out that fact your labeled a racist. But pointing that fact out isn't labeling all blacks as criminals. Most blacks are good law abiding citizens just like the majority of the population is overall. People like Booker want to excuse the criminality based on racism. The ends justifies the means. They want fewer blacks in prison and they don't care what they have to do to achieve it. They want equal outcomes based on race, not equal outcomes based on an individuals choices.
