I heard this song so many times by Elton and thought of it as pleasant pop music, but I never understood what it was all about. As she does with all her songs, Angelina is living the lyrics, interpreting them beautifully and giving them meaning. A while ago, I watched a 1970’s Elton John video of this. It’s a full-on show with a back-up band, back-up singers, falsetto, and big glasses. Elton is putting on a show. Nothing wrong with that, but when you watch Angelina, it has nothing to do with a show. It’s just Angelina, deep within herself, not even making eye contact with the audience. She’s there to give us her interpretation of the lyrics, and she does it with that incredible, magical, soothing, timeless vintage voice. If the measure for the best singer in the world is the one you want to listen to the most, for me that’s Angelina by an enormous margin. I can listen to her all day, everyday.
At the very end Simon Cowell said he will never think of that song in the same way again. He was wowed. I love the way Angelina still does a slight curtsy when she is finished singing. She is fantastic. Thanks for your lovely reaction. (Patricia, Jerry's wife)
Soul, What makes Angelina’s performance even more remarkable is the fact that Angelina chose to sing with only the accompaniment of a single piano. Just having the piano playing allows the audience to focus on Angelina’s incredible voice.

The basic rearrangement here is by Sarah Bareilles but Anglina has made it her own in so many ways. An exceptional cover for sure. Soul, I like what you do. I can wait for your next Angelina reaction but I'm always jonesing for that Angelina fix.

It's been a fascinating discovery and I can tell that it took me more than two months listening to her version before daring to look for Elton's one. No need to say which one I prefer, and by far! I believe the finals songs were chosen by Simon Cowell, so she had little time to come up with her own arrangement like she did for Bohemian Rhapsody. She used Sara Barielles' version, not Elton's, but her unique vocals took it to another level. This is my favorite Angelina song, it's just so beautiful. For another total re-interpretation of a classic song, check out her cover of The Momas & the Papas California Dreamin' when she was 12. It's totally her arrangement & will blow your mind. Simon Cowell may have chosen other’s songs like Marcelito, but Angelina chooses her own songs and arrangements, and I’m sure that was a requirement for her doing the show, especially since they were not going to let her win. You do know that this was the second time they approached Angelina to do the show, they tried in the first season and the answer was NO!

@@keithserafy I don’t, but if you listen closely to her interview that she did before she did the show she hints at the negotiations that needed to happen before she would do the show, and I’m sure she would not give in on creative control no matter what they wanted, that would have been a deal breaker, but I’m sure they chose the song she did at the end of the show with Tyler, and the sand artist, and you can tell because the arrangement didn’t have the Angelina style. I do think the AGT experience was an eye opener for her, but her supporting family obviously helped her and protected her!
There was something not right about that performance. Compared to Bohemian Rhapsody Angelina's reaction to finishing this performance was cooly perfunctory. Not happy at all. Now where did I hear she was given a short list of songs to choose from? So yes she did choose but not freely. Her reaction shows that her wings got clipped somehow. I've no proof; but I'm convinced just the same.
There is an early studio recording of Angelina singing "I who have nothing" (I think she may have been only 6 years old). Would love to see you react to it.
She recently put out a short thank you vid where she thanked her fans for all the support she received for SHIELD. She promised her fans that she would be putting out many more originals. I take it as a sign that her album won't have any covers and will have new, original stuff. It can't come soon enough and I don't care what she puts on it. I'm getting it no matter what.

FYI if she was 12 as you say, those "years younger" you mentioned would actually amount to 1 since she is just 14 now, 13 when SHIELD was released and 12 when SHIELD was made. I doubt she made a thank you vid BEFORE the song was even released.
Angelina is unique in her ability to take a song (even an iconic song) and produce a rendition that is completely different though it remains the same.

First time I heard this with her singing it I realised that I had never actually listened to the words properly before. She's just something else - amazing!

You have so much more joy to experience as well as countless goose bumps. I have the luxury of being retired and widowed, so I have time to listen to virtually everyone of her performances. Angelina has been one of my favorite trinity of singers since the day, actually middle of the night, when I first heard her sing, 'I'm A Fool To Want You' A cappella when she was 7. She along with Morissette and the other wonder child Daneliya Tuleshova. Are my three favorites, and if you forced me to choose a favorite it would be Daneliya who I heard first, and who gets to me faster than any other singer. Morissette is the best singer in the world right now and her 'Fly Like A Bird' should end that discussion. And Angelina, She has never let me down and I have yet not to cry listening to her take a familiar song turn it inside out and sing it back to me having it sound enough like the original, but with her twists and special vocals she put on them to make them her own. But Daneliya can have me sobbing within the first five words of a song. Her latest is a stunning version of 'Not About Angels' by Birdy. It is a beautiful song that leaves you feeling so vulnerable you hurt everywhere but mostly in your heart. She really does a special job on this song and the only regret is it's over too soon. I would love it if you reacted to it, because I think you will find it really beautiful.

@@krisamagus1 Queen are touring with Adam Lambert next year. It isnt impossible to make the jump to performing with AJ let's be honest she is a legend in the making. If they tour with Adam Lambert I pretty sure they'll work with AJ... Especially as they loved her take on Bohemian Rhapsody.

Best version so far. As with Bohemian Rhapsody, like having to lean into a whisper, her measured breathy pared down versions, lures in the listener and traps us, then hits us up with a big emotive note and vocal runs that thrill. I can't wait to see where her career goes. A truly rare talent.

She connect to the spirit of the song she is performing, build the story and takes you to a mesmerizing journey of emotions, wrapping you with her warm voice. There are great and amazing singers out there, some of them are also great performers but none of them is a real true story-teller. Angelina takes the concept of "soul singing" to a different new level, and at least for me - listening to singers is not the same any more - it is divided by before Angelina and after Angelina. I don't know any other singer in the past or in the present that put that kind of emotions like Angelina did in some specific songs (stay, million years ago, bohemian rhapsody, yellow bricks and few more), I never heard before about a singer that made grown-up / old people wish to live more just to be around to see what she will do next (in many comments for her songs), and I think that says it all

I was sure I'd seen you review this before and I almost didn't watch. Glad I watched now because you always have the same passion for her performances as I do. First time I heard this with her singing it I realised that I had never actually listened to the words properly before. She's just something else - amazing!
Glad to see you back with Angelina’s performances. You have barely scratched the surface of her remarkable and lengthy repertoire. You have so much more joy to experience as well as countless goose bumps. I have the luxury of being retired and widowed, so I have time to listen to virtually everyone of her performances. Just when I think I have seen them all some reactor finds a hidden gem. I love the amazement that you express with your body and words.

Angelina has been one of my favorite trinity of singers since the day, actually middle of the night, when I first heard her sing, 'I'm A Fool To Want You' A cappella when she was 7. She along with Morissette and the other wonder child Daneliya Tuleshova. Are my three favorites, and if you forced me to choose a favorite it would be Daneliya who I heard first, and who gets to me faster than any other singer. Morissette is the best singer in the world right now and her 'Fly Like A Bird' should end that discussion. And Angelina, She has never let me down and I have yet not to cry listening to her take a familiar song turn it inside out and sing it back to me having it sound enough like the original, but with her twists and special vocals she put on them to make them her own.
But Daneliya can have me sobbing within the first five words of a song. Her latest is a stunning version of 'Not About Angels' by Birdy. It is a beautiful song that leaves you feeling so vulnerable you hurt everywhere but mostly in your heart. She really does a special job on this song and the only regret is it's over too soon. I would love it if you reacted to it, because I think you will find it really beautiful.
Ohh, I have been looking forward to your experience of this one since you 'did' her Bohemian Rhapsody! This would be in my top 5 favorites of her performances. Thank you ;~)

@@krisamagus1 Queen are touring with Adam Lambert next year. It isnt impossible to make the jump to performing with AJ let's be honest she is a legend in the making. If they tour with Adam Lambert I pretty sure they'll work with AJ... Especially as they loved her take on Bohemian Rhapsody.

Best version so far. As with Bohemian Rhapsody, like having to lean into a whisper, her measured breathy pared down versions, lures in the listener and traps us, then hits us up with a big emotive note and vocal runs that thrill. I can't wait to see where her career goes. A truly rare talent.

She connect to the spirit of the song she is performing, build the story and takes you to a mesmerizing journey of emotions, wrapping you with her warm voice.
There are great and amazing singers out there, some of them are also great performers but none of them is a real true story-teller.
Angelina takes the concept of "soul singing" to a different new level, and at least for me - listening to singers is not the same any more - it is divided by before Angelina and after Angelina.
I don't know any other singer in the past or in the present that put that kind of emotions like Angelina did in some specific songs (stay, million years ago, bohemian rhapsody, yellow bricks and few more), I never heard before about a singer that made grown-up / old people wish to live more just to be around to see what she will do next (in many comments for her songs), and I think that says it all
