    "Infomercial" or not, here is an entrepreneur trying to bring a new innovation to market at a decent price. I can tell you from personal experience, that's not easy (or likely profitable). So, thank you Ron for giving this product some exposure.

    Absolutely ingenious saw. I gave my Skilsaw to my neighbor after I unboxed and inspected my Straight Flush. Thanks to both Jake for inventing this and to Ron for posting videos about the Cuz-D.

  • @Goalsplus
    @Goalsplus 6 лет назад +31

    Obviously a tool for the undistracted competent person only. And Jake has set a perfect example -- the problems this saw solves have existed for decades. The big companies did not solve them. One man with initiative and a hell of a lot of guts did! Well done.

      @@StraightFlushSaw wish i had know this earlier! I just replace a section of my subfloor and this would have been amazing! I had to use a multi tool with a blade to get as close as possible and it took me hours... not sure if 500$ would ever pay to me since Im a DIYer but still amazing. I would buy this hands down if I was renovating an older house! Seems to be much more safe than a normal saw too! I always get nervous when I need to lift the blade guard.

  • @MrBrianDuga
    @MrBrianDuga 6 лет назад +4

    I know people are sort of hating on Ron for the info-mercial format to a product review. That was my first reaction. But here's a relatively new AMERICAN company (2012?) doing what America was once #1 for - innovation, value and quality in manufacturing. I always root for the underdog. The small companies that have to scratch and claw to get above the fray. How many have been disappointed with companies like Dewalt for watering down their brand. I run into Amazon reviews again and again about how Dewalt tools are not what they used to be. Companies outsourcing manufacturing to China to stay competitive in a price point. Here's a guy who understands the industry. It's a thoughtful design around problems people encounter day to day and perhaps even forget or accept (e.g.: that a Sawzall is the only tool for certain jobs). I say it's time to give the new guy a chance. Go LEAN baby!

    Given the angle of attack this saw seems capable above, particularly plunge cutting and flush cutting, without a riving knife, I can imagine it could be susceptible to a nasty kick back from time to time. If Festool was able to design a saw with one, maybe the next generation will include one. I believe I'll wait for that version. Oh yea and i want mine to be a camo paint finish. Other than that and making sure that you couldn't purchase one with out a specially mandated OSHA operators licence, looks like a winner. (-;

    Guys, I am so glad you showed how one would do the corner. The videos that I have seen so far did not do a good job of showing how that would work. Looks like a great saw and a great video. The sound was not great Ron. I was trying to watch it on my phone and I couldn't hear it very well turned all the way up. I had to switch to my laptop.

    Also lets persuade the maker of this saw to be the first to make a truly cordless worm drive saw. All the big names just seem to want to make a side winder with a rear handle and call it a worm type saw so you get none of the benefits of the worm gear torque. Get in there while the big boys aren’t paying attention. I assume this saw is patented a cordless version would be epic.

  • @ops5todd
    @ops5todd 6 лет назад +10

    looks dangerous as hell! I dont mind using a sawzall if it means keeping all my fingers. I've been in construction for 35 years and have seen some sketchy stuff done with a regular skill saw. I could only imagine what kind of crap someone would pull with this thing.

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  6 лет назад +3

      Todd, your comment is interesting as I find this saw and its features to offer more personal safety than any framing circular saw I have used. Just the thumb actuated guard retraction keeps me from reaching over the saw with my right hand to retract the guard. Even when the full blade guard is removed for flush cuts, there is still the metal guard around the blade tips so the saw can be set down without waiting on the blade to stop. You should take a closer look as my limited first few days with it leads me to believe it to be a very safe saw to use. Any saw can do damage if improperly used and this is is designed for the professional tradesman, not the DIYer, but a worm drive is also designed for the same crowd.

      I am pretty sure the sawstop (contractor model) is free standing on it's own wheeled stand. It would be easy to adjust the saw or more likely the workbench height to match. His old Dewalt saws were much lighter and could hang on the pipe supports.

    Great innovation and features, and no doubt great quality. However, I have found that the best of the best usually doesn't make sense.Doubling the price usually gets you only 10% better quality and features. Such tools as this are not for builders, they're for tool aficionados, who don't really do a lot of building. If I had that saw, I would put it on the shelf and admire it, and use my $150 DeWalt.

    Frame walls, sheet walls, router and a flush cut bit, cut windows and doors while it's laying on the floor. Way easier and faster

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  6 лет назад +4

      Cody, I have always used the router method, but the flush saw is faster by a lot and can be done later which allows the openings to be left covered for security and weather protection. Additionally, the sheeting from the openings has a perfectly square edge for reuse in infill and the material will fall to the outside where it can be ripped for rim fill right where you need it. It is a different method for me, but it is far better for production and material use. When routing there is a lot of sawdust, the material is not easily reusable without recutting the edges, plus you have the router pigtail cut. Also, a router bit will not hold up as well as the saw blade. Give it a try, I think you will be surprised in the time and material it will save you. Ron

      It has. A lot of pretty cool. Features. But untill. I see. The. On job. Performances. By. Framing. Guys ! The. Warranty. Sounds. Great But. I want. To. See. How. They really. Do. Honor the Warranty. In real life. Not being a hater. I am. A skeptic. On new. Products. And ideas. After. Having. And using my. Skil. 77 for 20 years. I. Know. Its capabilities. And short comings. To the point i can count on it to do. The jobs i need it to do plus. Locally. I know. Where. To. Get. Whatever. Is needed. To keep. Production flowing. And money being made. With so many. Things. Changing. Over the last. 20. Years the way businesses. Operate. Mostly. Ur to overseas. Manufacturing. And the internet. I. Want to. Be. Sure. This company. Will. Be around. For. A while untill. I drop the. Large. Amount of money. They want for the. Products ? It may very well be the. Best thing. And change. The construction industry. ? But. I’m thinking. I want to. Really. See it in. True. Action. Being used. On construction sites. Where. The. Actual. Conditions. Are. Much. Harder. On tools. Than. A informercial. On RUclips.

      You are getting some good life from your HD77, I have used up a dozen of them in my 30 years. Admittedly, they framed a lot of house in all kinds of weather and don't bounce very well from a 30' drop.😎🤙

      I have 3 FT Track Saws and 5 tracks, I too would not give them up, but they are my finish saws. The Cud-Z is a framer and I think I am going to like it in that arena as much as I like FT for finish work. Maybe the tile should be, "The best framing saw on the planet."😎🤙

    Would buy if blade was on other side.

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  6 лет назад +2

      All worm drives are blade left and when framing it is the best for and seeing the mark. If you are right-handed and the blade is on the right like a sidewinder, you have to look over the saw to see the mark. I would have very little use for a right blade worm drive except for siding where I would set up one saw to the left side of my cut table and the other to the right.

    • @gabenarayana6116
      @gabenarayana6116 6 лет назад +1

      I am a lefty. I live in Michigan and it was years before I even seen or used a worm drive on the job. If we do see them we call them boat anchors. Just a lot of saw to be picking up repetitively. But if that's what your used to I get it. As always Ron looking forward to your next video. Keep them coming.

      Good to know MrWizards. Maybe you could give us some info to use and how you arrived at your obviously thoughtful final opinion. Of course, with your vast offerings here on RUclips showing us your deep knowledge of the construction industry and framing, we can trust whatever you say as gospel. I know that I always trust content creators that hide their true identity behind a made up name and an Emoji. Again thanks for adding so much to the conversation.😭
