    The best thing about Suncorp Stadium is even when it’s not full it’s still got an atmosphere like no other. Basically when full the 52,500 sounds like 90,000 and no matter what area you’re on top of everything. Best stadium in Australia.

      @@RobReacts1 Although the Brisbane CBD is small compared to other cities, the area included in Brisbane City is the largest of any in Australia. That's because the Brisbane City Council area covers almost all of the greater metropolitan area instead of it being divided into a lot of smaller local government areas as Sydney and Melbourne are. Brisbane City Council oversees 1343 km square (518.4 miles square) compared to Sydney City Council which covers only 25 km square in the city centre. People who haven't been to Brisbane might sling off at it as a big country town but it's a great city and worth a visit when you come to Australia. Make sure you catch the Rivercat (ferry) for a trip on the river to Southbank with its city beach and restaurants.

      @@robynmurray7421 In fact, back in the 1950s, Brisbane was the largest (by area) city in the world. Then Los Angeles found out, and they annexed 13 sq miles of State Forest and announced themselves as the biggest. Then Tokyo merged with Yokohama and blew them away. Brisbane is still No 3, I think.

    • @lonnie224

      @@ironside210 you might want to check that. I think by land area you will find Mt Isa has the largest city council and largest land mass in the world. It used to, not sure if that is still accurate.

    • @ironside210
      @ironside210 2 года назад +1

      @@lonnie224 Hi, Lonnie, It is confusing, and becomes a matter of semantics. The Mt Isa City area is just over 7000 sq km. Big, for sure, but well short of Brisbane's 15000+. The Local Government Area (Shire), confusingly also called Mt Isa, is 43000+sq km, but contains other self-governing towns like Camooweal. So, Mt Isa is one of (?) Australia's biggest shires, but Brisbane is the biggest single city administration by area. About a hundred years ago, about 20 local City Councils all agreed to amalgamate, and that is how we got this monster.

    One feature of Suncorp is the bus station underneath, great for getting to games and concerts. Plenty of pedestrian access from the city centre and Milton train station as well. I’ve seen U2 and Bon Jovi concerts here and Robbie Williams in his prime sold out two nights here as well. We don’t call it The Suncorp Stadium, it’s just called Suncorp Stadium or Suncorp for short.

    I think Suncorp Stadium is not just the best stadium in Queensland but maybe the best stadium in Australia because it provides a good variety of sporting and entertainment events like you said for Rugby League, Rugby Union, Soccer etc but it can also be used for preliminary events such as Professional Wrestling and Professional Boxing as well as major concerts. It definitely suits the theme & climate of The City of Brisbane and is perhaps one of the best looking stadiums in the world.
    In my honest opinion though, i reckon most of the stadiums here in Australia are some of the very best designed/structured stadiums in the world. Like MCG, ANZ Stadium, Optus Stadium just to name a few, The Gabba is also a pretty nice stadium as well.
    Nice vid mate! I found that quite interesting :)

    The statues you saw was (from L to R) Darren Lockyer, Artie Beatson, Wally Lewis (gold guy holding the shield) arguably the greatest league player of all time, Alan Langer. At that end of the stadium, it's all League statues, at the southern end of the ground, you'll find a statue of John Eales, the only rugby statue.
    I attend every home game of the QLD Reds, first match I went to there was the 2003 RWC, England vs Uruguay. I was seated in the top teir back corner, and I still felt like I had a fantastic view of the game! There are no bad seats at that ground!

    Lang Park is only 1-2 km from the CBD area, so an easy walk. The thing that sets it on a different level to other stadiums (stadia??) is the connection between the fans and the players. There is only a very few metres from the sideline to the fans. If there is any match atmosphere at all, it is magnified in a feedback loop until the contest is all-consuming. It is a great place for spectators. Interesting fact.- The pitch went 2m under water during a Brisbane flood.

    "That guy" is the King - The Emperor of Lang Park. The immortal Wally Lewis. When it was just Lang Park there use to be a grassy hill on both ends. It was a great place to watch Rugby League - now it is even better. Many say it is the greatest true Rugby League stadium in the world. So Rugby League is the number one sport played here. Rugby use to be played primarily at Ballymore but it only holds just shy of 20,000 people so Rugby is the second sport played here. Soccer is played here as well but wouldn't get the same crowds. They have many other big events and concerts here as well. BTW it is true that it was originally a cemetery. There is a church in the South West corner of the block of land it is upon - they built the stadium around it.

    Spent years in design and site during the redevelopment, got to see a lot of the behind the scenes stuff, walked the roof and cat walk, many great memories working on this. Fun fact, it doesn't have 52,500 seats, 52,500 is its licenced capacity - it has even less actual seats now they removed a heap for the new screens.

    My old man actually worked on an upgrade to the stadium a while back, when they added the Wally Lewis statue. Apparently that statue didn’t turn up until the day before they were supposed to unveil the completed project to the State Premier, and the project team actually called a meeting and opened it with the line “Where’s Wally!?”

    I used to work there! Love the stadium. The church and part of the graveyard are still there, but off the plaza from the Milton Rd entrance (the other end to what you were looking at). All the statues on the Caxton St end are Rugby League and there's one Rugby Union statue in the plaza on the Milton Rd end. If you search Suncorp Stadium Statues they have a page for them with the stats of the players. The people on the field would have been at the end of one of the state of origin games. It doesn't really serve a purpose except to allow people the chance to go on the field and for kids to kick some balls around. It's a pretty cool view from the field though. The player on the screen when you were on the field was Matt Gillet, so the photo would have been taken somewhere between 2012 and 2017. Fun fact: the Western Stand where you were up the top is where the original stand of the stadium back when it was Lang Park. The stadium got redeveloped and opened again as what you see now in 2003. And it's been flooded and had to undergo major repairs twice!
