    My tips:
    1. Stay motivated. Sound off. Don’t be shy. Even if what you’re doing sucks, stay motivated.
    2. Don’t get discouraged. The army gets better after basic.
    3. Before shipping out, learn how to identify ranks and memorize your general orders.
    4. Before shipping out, train yourself to go to bed early and wake up early.
    5. Never ever call your M4 a gun. It’s a weapon.

    I ship out Nov 1st to Ft. Jackson. Your videos have been a huge help and very insightful. Being older at 32 I'm worried how I'm going to compare or keep up with all these spring chickens! I'm pumped and excited to start this next chapter of my life and have been practicing my cardio everyday between running or cycling.

    The least of your worries is basic training. What you should be worried about is getting to your first duty station and not being a fuc up. Basic is just that Basic. You might have back to back field training and then put on a bird and be in a combat zone in your first year. Basic is the easiest thing you will do in your career. If you can't handle it then quit. Failure to adapt. Alot easier to get out in basic than when you get to your first duty station. LOS. The Army isn't college, a church camp , or the boy scouts. The Army is a lifestyle. It doesn't end when you take off the uniform. I did 21 years. Have pride in that uniform/ and yourself. You represent the US Army.

    I’ll be going to Fort Sill for BCT October 17th. I’m working on my running before I ship out. I’ve lifted weights and have a pretty strong deadlift for the ACFT so a lot of the events for the ACFT will be cake walk for me.

    I've always been told to not go to sick call because they will recycle or discharge you and also if that happens they take even longer to send you home than if you just graduated. Also I have been under the impression that drill sergeants get on your case for going to sick call (which makes sense if it is repetitive and you aren't actually sick).

    Hi, Drill Sgt. Bernie. I enjoyed watching your video. I took notes on your tips. They are not only good tips for Basic Training but it's wisdom for life. I am a teacher in the public schools. I noted especially when you said; Stay fit (eat healthy, exercise.. it'll make life a little easier if your health is in good shape), Put your game face on & Check your attitude (don't get emotionally involved with a bunch of drama or criticism from someone.. stay tough; life isn't always a cake walk or "fair," and don't take things personally but just drive on. Keep it movin'! And, finally your words about Teamwork; we always need someone who has the gift, or the skills and others need us to get through it together. Thank you. I'm going to share these points with my students.. oh and, I just subscribed!💜💜

    If the drill Sarn't on CQ asks you to give him a neck massage cuz hes overworked. Do not put your hands on said DS. it may very well be the last thing you ever do in your army career.

  • @gladiatorking2.0envoyofthe95
    @gladiatorking2.0envoyofthe95 2 года назад

    I would say one thing that disappointed me about BCT is most of my DS’ didn’t target the slackers enough. I was surprised because you’d think they’d be harder on the ones who are overweight and don’t put in effort. One DS in particular just literally didn’t like me at all for whatever reason and targeted me any chance he got while he left the trainees who were actually really overweight alone… And they lived in a delusional mindset thinking they did a good job which was annoying to deal with. Meanwhile I actually got a 550 on the acft with an injury and never went to sick call. As a DS, do you have any perspective to why this could have happened? Do certain DS just give up on those who don’t put in a lot of effort? And then target others as a result?

    • @ErickaBernie
      @ErickaBernie  2 года назад +3

      Since I wasn't there I can't be for sure...but, when I was a Drill Sergeant I would know who was slacking and who was giving 100%. Have you heard the quote, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't force them to drink it?" At times I was actually harder on the ones that I knew can handle the pressure because, in the long run, it would make them succeed. As much as someone could try to put more on the ones that didn't care, you can only do so much to make them want to care. Drill Sergeants don't give up on the ones that do not put effot, we just understand when and where to push. Remember you don't see everything, you never know if the drill sergeants are pushing them at pt or other times.

      @@ErickaBernie thank you for the feedback. So in most instances I wouldn’t be able to see everything, BUT in this instance I actually did just because of how small the cycle was. My company’s cycle was actually the smallest it had ever been in the company’s history. For this cycle it was only the size of 1 platoon so instead of 4 full platoons it was divided into 4 squads. So since I was in 4th squad, my SDS was the SDS for what is normally 4th platoon etc. It was just very odd how certain people got challenge coins when they put in mediocre effort. Just irresponsible to give them the sense they did a good job when they didn’t, y’know? I’m an 09S so that could also have to do with why this certain SDS always targeted me more, I guess as brutal as OCS is gonna be the bright side is most people there actually want to be there since the TAC officers don’t mess around and will make shammers want to quit.
