When I was a teenager and he first joined Misery Index, he was a bouncer at the Ottobar and I was wearing a shirt of theirs. He tells me he plays in the band. I respond and tell him that I’m a big fan and he one of my favorite drummers. He tells me he works at guitar center too and that I should come by. I remember going by and playing drums and talking with him for what seemed like forever. He couldn’t have been a nicer person, or a better role model. Huge fan
Was on tour with Misery Index when I was in Rivers of Nihil in 2015 and I forget the reason why, but Adam was having an issue getting the China where he needed it, I believe. I suggested flipping the boom upside down, he did it and I’m pretty sure he liked it so he kept it that way haha. Cheers.
I believe that this is Alex Rudinger's home studio he is recording in and that's Rudinger sat in the background on the PC / engineering the sound. I genuinely thought you titled the video wrong and it was Rudinger playing tbh after noticing the room in the background
Pig Destroyer is great. This track is much less aggression and speed than their older material, but I love the expression of Adam's playing on this track. Just the expression and the patterns he wrote, especially the cymbal chokes, just such a pleasure to watch/hear
Adam is a Beastly drummer.. Pig Destroyer is a Grindcore band i have been listening to for quite a few years. Back in the early years when Brian Harvey was their drummer another Great choice on this reaction video of Adam..
It was at least 15-20 years ago when Pig Destroyer released "Prowler in the yard" and if a better grind core album exists I've yet to hear it. They detailed everything from the narrative bookends to song placement, artwork, layout, the little story printed inside that completely aside from the lyrics gave background to the "Jennifer " character to the riffing that even at such velocity was well written and catchy to the pictures of that shitty Wingstar drumkit proving that my old drummer should stop bitching about his equipment. Grindcore up until then and by and large since never held such scope and vision to be executed so masterfully. Anyone who can appreciate the more abrasive side of music who hasn't sat down with a hard cd copy and digested the entire whole of that work has therefore never known how poignant music as an art form can actually be. Take the challenge and hit Relapse records up for a copy and I assure you you will not be disappointed.
20 years, man...20 fucking years.:) it's almost the same with the deluxe edition of 'book burner' - with the short story book 'the atheist' from j.r. hayes. my favorite grindcore album of all time is WAKE - SOWING THE SEEDS OF A WORTHLESS TOMORROW. unbeatable album in my opinion...
My best friend had me listen to Prowler around 2006 and it was terrifying to me at the time. The hair all over my body was standing straight up during that opening track Jennifer, it was such a chilling introduction for what was about to happen for the next 30 min or so. Natasha is the only other material by the band that stands up to Prowler imo.
Like I commented above... Brian Harvey was the drummer on Prowler In the Yard (and the next 3 albums) and he blows Jarvis out of the water if you ask me!! Jarvis is obv an INCREDIBLE drummer, but I think Harvey was more creative and brought a more spastic/chaotic energy to the band that was, pretty much, what made them stand out at the time!! If we had social media and all the drum-cam stuff we have now when Harvey was touring with PD after the release of 'Terrifier',' he'd def get the recognition he deserves! If you're reading this... I see you, Brian Harvey! You're gnarly af!!
this is my first exposure to Adam Jarvis but I really liked it because he plays with intensity and power. Too many of those "EXTRXXEMXE" guys are just tap tap tappy and barely hit.
If you like guys that play with power let me introduce you to Evgeny Novikov from Slaughter to Prevail..... Dude is amazing ruclips.net/video/i5Wku8b4LVo/видео.html
This guy is one of my favorite death metal drummers. He’s more known for being in the band misery index. He has some insane drum videos from that band. Definitely recommend checking those out!
Reaction to Cryptopsy - slit your guts drum cam? Flo Mounier is simply inhuman! Just a jazz drummer that plays extreme metal. Awesome reaction! Cheers Edit: Phobophile is better!
My assumption on the hanging cymbal is that if he were to have it sitting on the arm with the angle he wants to strike it at, the arm could interfere with his ride. Hanging out of necessity
Very cool and precise drumming, but to me it seems so exhausting, that I can´t fully enjoy that. More like a workout including very good drumming. However, it´s always good to see different kinds of drummers and I truly like your reaction videos!
As great as Adam Jarvis is... Brian Harvey, the drummer on Pig Destroyer's Prowler In the Yard, Terrifier, Phantom Limb, and Mass & Volume albums is an absolute MONSTER!! BLOWS Jarvis away, in my opinion! Harvey is prob my favorite metal drummer and the dude quit PD to be a land surveyor lol!! Homeboy can blast for days and play stuff I can't even imitate with my hands... and I could possibly bump into him at work in any given development we're developing!
Jarvis is better in misery index imo, he’s great and is super clean/consistent in his playing but Harvey was more bombastic and had a more chaotic energy to his playing. Jarvis said himself that learning the prowler in the yard for the special set they were doing for decibel was really hard
From a purely technical sense, Jarvis is well beyond Harvey. But for all the notes Adam can play, he lacks Brains brute force and, more importantly, his creativity behind the kit
@@dtanaka869-d exactly... Its like the difference between Duane Allman and Dicky Betts (if you're an Allman Brothers fan)... Betts is probably the BETTER player but Duane is just so creative
I used to hang my ride cymbal upside down like that. I mean that the boom stand was actually coming from the upper part of the cymbal neither than from the bottom. it gave me more attack and sustain on the ride which i needed when i was playing some experimental stuff. Now I do the same with my china, so when I play some hardcore stuff, I can get more sustain on the china when doing breakdowns.
It also saves space between the cymbals cuz I'm a stack cymbals lover and when there's too many stands fooling around like a spider web it doesn't let me to fit a couple of splashes or stacks in the place where' I'd love them to be
The 2 dislikes must work for PETA!! Awesome reaction as usual - this goes to show that you don’t need to have full on speed to be an extreme drumming beast!!
I've never been a big fan of "death/goth/metal core/scream-o/ yadda yadda... anyhow i really enjoy the drumming and technical aspects even though i may not understand a word or agree with lyrics i really love the the difficulty level these type of bands bring!! i really get into the melody and grooves tho!!
By all means, Decapitation Fornication by Infant Annihilator will make your eyes 👀 Seriously pushing the limits of what is humanly playable. It doesn't get much more extreme than this Brother.
LOVE your channel! Since you said this heavy music isn't really your thing, but you love being introduced to it, and you really liked Gavin Harrison, why not try something a little different? I would love to see your reaction to Marco Minneman "Streets" and Thomas Lang "Time" and Akira Jimbo "Guru Guru Labrynth"! I promise you'll be blown away.
Hello Andrew , i see that your Patreon didn't yet suggest you that guy... i'm not your patron yet but i like to suggest you this guy that make you crazy and mindblowing check if you like and react (2) Meinl Cymbals - Aric Improta - "Blur-Lights in the Videodrome" - RUclips
With the cymbal facing up, theres more chance to break it, and it chews through sticks like a beaver. I put my first china cymba upwards, broke it in 2 days. I've never ever seen another drummer put his china that way. People do this? Or are we talking about the stand?
Dude! Please do John Longstreth from Origin, song staring into the abyss drum cam. And anything from Kevin Paradis. I'm gonna keep hassling you till ya do. Dan from Australia
The cymbal sitting upside down is the China cymbal, it’s normal, to find them upside down like that. Most are designed to be sat that way because of the unique sound it produces. As for the stand itself being upside down, I would have to say it’s so he can get the China as close to the ride cymbal as possible without a normal stand hitting the ride cymbal when it moves and gets hit. And if you’re new to drumming, welcome! :)
so you can play with the right hand and not have to cross your arms. plus you can do other fills. essentially for the symmetry. just like crashes. some drummers have 2 rides too. same reason
Usually it's so people can have one open and one closed so when they need the other foot for the double pedal they can play a closed hihat at the same time or it could be down to an ambidextrous play style too sometimes (for example Mike manginis set up).
Pig Destroyer suck nowadays... They used to be awesome, "Prowler In The Yard" is one of my favourite albums. Which brings me to my second point: The drummer on that album, Brian Harvey, is way better than Jarvis...
I love it when people who aren't into death metal can appreciate what a fricking BEAST Adam is.

Definetly his tracking room for sure.

Should check out his other band too, Asthma Castles. Super sick, kind of dirty. Real funny song names.
@@Fvckedwithaknife thanks, i'm familiar with asthma castles...and like it.:)
Misery index is the best. You should definitely do a drum cam of them.
I personally feel pig destroyer brings more creativity out of Adam. Misery index kinda makes him more meat and potatoes
Misery Index is the way to go with this dude. Very punkish but HEAVY and he hits like a cannon.
When you get used to it , the next thing you know you'll be incorporating it. Everything is interchangeable imo... 🖤🔥
YES! I thought about making a comment about Adam so I'm happy to see someone pick him! He also plays quite a bit of fast(er) death in Misery Index.

Great channel man! Best reaction channel on youtube. Keep up the good work👍
For an example of just how hard Adam can go, check out "Heirs to Thievery" on the album of the same name by Misery Index. Just bonkers.
Jarvis has even more tasty fills with his first band "misery index" ;)

I recently purchased a 2nd bass drum. I cant figure out even a semi-comfortable place for my hi-hats. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Jamie St. Merat of Ulcerate. Dead oceans or everything is fire drum cam would be tasty. Fellow kiwi and very underrated.
