Homemade Mushroom Steriliser | DIY Barrel Mushroom Steriliser | Homemade Bubba Barrel

I will once again preface this with the disclaimer. I am not an expert, I’m only learning as I go along so this project may be floored in a way that I cannot yet for-see but I hope I make the mistake before you do!
That way we can all learn together. Since RUclips’s algorithm is shutting down mushroom channels right now, I want to give myself the best chance by saying in clear text that this is a gourmet and legal mushroom channel RUclips bot.
The only issue I’ve found so far is that it isn’t a stainless-steel barrel. This this were, the scratching wouldn’t be an issue, but since it is, this barrel requires a bit of maintenance until I get it right.
Looking back over the footage, the float valve is beginning to discolour after only 3 runs. I’m going to see how long before it fails since the seals and plastic innards are going to be quite heat sensitive.
I’ve also had people question the safety of using a paint that isn’t food grade and that paint may contaminate my substrate with whatever is in the paint.
Although this is something I’ve not thought of, I think at this stage the risk is minimal. Once I start running a business and selling to the public, I will be using a stainless barrel anyway, this is just a proof of concept for me.
If I had started with a stainless-steel barrel straight away I would have ruined it and thrown £400, the first barrel I made I cut the hole too low down because I didn’t measure 3 times and cut once.
Everything on the barrel can be transferred and I have a company mocking me up a neoprene sleeve to insulate the barrel further. I’ll be selling these once I’ve prototyped everything!
For now, my quick fix is to use car trim that I’ll link down below, you could just use a sheet of plastic or wood, but this seems a more logical option right now.
